Basic ODBC Connection to connect to Crystal ???

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have visual studio 2008 professional with the inbuilt crystal reports version 10 I think.  I create everything from my laptop and IIS runs from my laptop as well.

I have created the most basic report to try and figure out a problem I have, anyways the report contains one database field that is it .... which I connect to by ODBC.  I then create a web form add the crystal report viewer to the report and the crystal report source run the web page and it loads the data from the field as I would expect to the crystal report viewer !!

I have several ODBC connections setup on my machine one using integrated security the other using SQL authentication both are system DSNs.  Now when I publish my application and access it from IIS and not the localhost I can access everything from my application ok except when I go to form that has the crystal reports I get this error (ODBC used here is the 'sa' account)

Logon failed. Details: IM002:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified Error in File

If I use the other ODBC that uses Windows authentication I get this error message

Logon failed. Details: 42000:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database  requested by the login. T

Connect to an existing connection manager from within a custom transformation?

I'm developing a custom data flow transformation and have hit a roadblock.  I need to create an ADO connection to one of the connection managers that's defined in the package already.  I can either hardcode the name of the connection manager, or define it as a custom property....the problem I'm having is accessing it at all.  What I've found is that ComponentMetaData.RuntimeConnectionCollection[0].ConnectionManager only has the connection managers defined by the component itself, not already existing in the package.  How do I create a connection to a connection manager that's defined at the package level at design time? Thanks

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.

Using ODBC to connect to foxpro tables to output to SQL tables

I'm new to SSIS and I have some foxpro tables that I need to import into SQL tables.  I think I need to use an ODBC since my tables are in foxpro 2.6.  I think I have the ODBC ready where I'm connected to the database, but not sure where to go from here.  Steps to setting up the ODBC may be useful just to make sure I did it right.  Any help is appreciated.

Error Message: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection informatio

I have a web page that contains a ReportViewer control.  I am trying to display a report, which is an .rdl file located on the SSRS server, in this ReportViewer control.  I have set the ReportPath and ReportServerUrl correctly.  I am getting an error message. Am I suppose to use an .rdlc file rather than a .rdl file?  Does the web server configuration need to use a certain account?  I am getting the following error message: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

ODBC connection in group policy

Hello, We want to apply ODBC connection setting for all users in AD. We did googling but could not able to find any help. We've SQL 2005 database package which will be used by all users and users have very limited access i.e., only to run this package. Nothing else access given to users. User unable to use package as ODBC connection is set fo them. We do ODBC setting for every users one by one giving control panel setting and then again revert it with limited access. It is very difficult task to for 100 users. Please suggest GP where in we can set the ODBC for all users at the time. Your early response will great and appreciated. Thanks!!!   Regards, Shaikh Sameer

BIDS Connection Manager Cannot Connect to Remote Oracle Db

Hi All,
I'm not having much luck getting an 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB' remote connection in connection manager to work when creating an SSIS package in BIDS.

I've covered off all the steps in the following link

The local machine is running SQL 2005 Sp2 Enterprise Edition on W2003 Sp2 Standard Edition X64

Using the Oracle 'Net Configuration Assistant' I can connect successfully to the remote service

I'm using ODAC 10g Release 2.

The steps to reproduce the error are as follows

1. in BIDS after creating an SSIS Solution
2. Right click in the  Connection Manager and select new OLE DB Connection
3. Click 'New'
4. Select 'Oracle provider for OLE DB'
5. Under server I enter the service name that I created in the Oracle 'Net Configuration Assistant'
6. Enter the user name and password as I entered in the Oracle 'Net Configuration Assistant'
7. When I click 'Test Connection' I get the following error

Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified

I've spent a lot of time trying to get this to work and tried othe

Connection string to connect with Sql Server 2008.

May  be it's a wrong place to ask the following question. Sorry for that. Our hosting provider has recently upgraded their database server from Sql Server 2005 to 2008 and I'm getting errors to connect with remote server from my development machine. Error Message "Invalid connection". Tried to find solution on net but couldn't find it.

I'm using .Net 1.1. Though we've updated versions 2.0,3.5 & 4.0 but due to some certain circumstances I've no way to update it. It's a web based project. The following connection string works fine for Sql Server 2000 & 2005 but not for 2008.

<add key="ConnectionString" value="Data Source=Remote Server's domain name;Initial Catalog=database name;User ID=user name;Password=surround;Persist Security Info=True;Pooling=false;Connect Timeout=45;" />

Remote Server's domain name indicates to remote db server like: test.mysite4now.com

database name for example: test_surround

user name like test_surround

password: surround.

Can anyone inform me what's wrong with the above connection string to connect to Sql Server 2008.

ODBC connection error

I have a 2008R2 server that I have SQL Server 2005 (32-bit) loaded on.  I have my databases installed and can connect to them from SQL Server Management using the 'sa' account and can run scripts, etc.  Howerver, when I try to setup an ODBC connection from another 2008R2 server running an application that accesses some of those same databases I get the following error when trying to connect using 'sa':

  • Connection failed:

  • SQLState: '01000'

  • SQL Server Error: 5

  • [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen

  • ((Connect())

  • Connection failed:

  • SQL State: '08001'

  • SQL Server Error: 17

  • [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.  I apologize if I have posted to the incorrect forum, please just let me know.  Thanks in advance!!

Cannot run Basic Web page from Visual Web Developer on IE8 on Windows 7 - won't accept connection e

I am trying to run the 'Basic Web Page' tutorial in internet explorer 8 on Windows 7.

I get an error message in IE8:

The remote device or resource won't accept the connection

The device or resource (localhost) is not set up to accept connections on port "51551".

I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. It did work on Vista so I think it must be related to security setting???

Cannot seem to get a hit on the web for help so appreciate any help.

Cannot connect to SQL Server 2008 RS Express, only connection to SQL Server 2008 Express succeeds?

Hi all,

my experience with SQL Server tends to zero. I've recently installed the new SQL Server 2008 RS Express with Advanced Services on my VISTA-machine because this version is prerequisite for installing some sample databases. There already existed a simple version of SQL Server 2008 express installed together with an older Visual Studio Express version. I thought that one would be upgraded but in fact the setup program installed the new 2008 RS version side-by-side to the older version.

The SQL Server ConfigManager shows actually both servers as running. SQL Server 2008 express named as "SQLEXPRESS" (Vers. 10.0.2531.0; path: '...\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn\') and the newer SQL Server 2008 RS express as "MSSQLSERVER" (Ver. 10.50.1600.1; path: '...\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\'). But MS SQL Server Management Studio only lets me connect to the older SQLEXPRESS-Server, the new "MSSQLSERVER" doesn't even show in the "Connect-to-Server"-dialog.

What went wrong? I'd appreciate any help,
