In Textbox, type in one letter and show words starting with that letter

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi everyone,

I think this is a little tricky problem, but I need to solve it somehow.

I have a texbox in my asp.net page.

I want to show all names when a user types in a letter in that textbox, whatever names starting with that letter.

the names are from a list generated by other function, pulled out from active directory.

So for example:

User types in "a" in a textbox then automactically names "aron" "asron" "amanda" in the list shows, and user can select one of those names.

How can I do this?

Thank you for advance :)

"unexpected error has occurred" when user enters letter in column of type number

I am testing the form validation on my edit form.  The column is of type number.  When I typed in a letter, instead of presenting me with a validation error, I got "An unexpected error has occurred."  I refreshed the page, entered a letter again, and this time was presented with a validation error.  I'm afraid this sort of thing will happen to my end users once I move to production.  Any idea what might cause this?
There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

SPD workflow status show "starting" when I create a document from the library !!. and hangs

I have a document library in MOSS 2007. Have created a WF and that starts "autmatically when new item created" In the document library I have created couple of column those are mandatory (required columns) and user has to fill those column while uploading a document as well creating a document from library. WF has ran and completed succefully  when I use "upload" option to load a document.  As you are aware, when we "upload" a document, we will have to fill all "required columns" and the click "check in" command button.  After I do all this, document get loaded and WD ran succesfully. However, the WF is not running when I create a document (.docx) from this library (using "new" button) !!.  I have filled all required field in the document information panel . After save & exit from WORD application, I can see WF status as "starting". But, it never started and completed.  So I did following and found WF worked !! a) After creating document (.docx) using "new" option I found WF status "starting"!. So,  I did "Check-out and Check-in" manually from document library. After doing this,  WF ran and status has been changed as "completed" b) In SPD, I change workflow start option from "Automatic" to "Manually start".&nb

Unable to enter the product key in the Convert License Type page (textbox is read-only)

We installed both WSS and MOSS SP2 and had planned to follow the manual fix for the known issue that the patch unexpectedly activates a trial expiration.  However, the textbox to enter the product key is read-only.  We have tried accessing this page using the normal administrator credentials as well as the farm account; no success. The SP2 issue and manual fix is detailed here, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/971620We were able to experience this problem on a farm running the Feb 2007 cummulative patch (version so it's not related to the SP.  But running the SP increasing the need to find the fix.Any help is appreciated,J. Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid

I have a FormView that allows a user to register for a company event. I want to do a couple of things with this form. 1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database 2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email. I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time. It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it. The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:Protected Sub InsertButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs) Session("FirstName") = Me.FormView1.FindControl("FirstName") Session("LastName") = Me.FormView1.FindControl("LastName")  <li> <label> First Name</label> <asp:TextBox ID="FirstName" runat="server" class="text-box" Text='<%# Bind("FirstName") %>' /> </li> </ul> </div>

I am using this:<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">    <ContentTemplate>     <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox5" runat="server" ontextchanged="TextBox5_TextChanged" AutoPostBack="true"></asp:TextBox>    </ContentTemplate>    </asp:UpdatePanel>========================================================protected void TextBox5_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)     {         ViewState["xyz"] = Convert.ToInt32(TextBox4.Text) - Convert.ToInt32(TextBox5.Text);         ViewState["xyz1"] = Convert.ToInt32(ViewState["xyz"].ToString()) * 100;         lbldiff.Text = ViewState["xyz"].ToString();         lblprofit.Text = ViewState["xyz1"].ToString();     }protected void TextBox5_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        ViewState["xyz"] = Convert.ToInt32(TextBox4.Text) - Convert.ToInt32(TextBox5.Text);        ViewState["xyz1

Is there a method that returns the control's type, such as "TextBox", "TextBlock", "Canvas", etc.,

Hello, I have a method that is passed in a FrameworkElement Ctrl.  When I use Ctrl.GetType().ToString() I get "System.Window.Controls.TextBox" or another string if a different type of control is passed in.  All I am interested in is the text after the last dot/period.  In my searching I thought I came across something that just returned the portion I'm looking for, but now can't find it. Is there a method that returns the control's type, such as "TextBox", "TextBlock", "Canvas", etc., without its parents? Regards, Robert

SQLExpress 2008 R2 64bit using NewName results in logical filename losing last letter in Backup

We have a problem that is only occurring on the 64 bit edition of SQL 2008 R2 (the 32 bit R2, and 64 bit original are fine).

As part of our install we restore a database called TaxMasterFresh’ and rename it to ‘TaxMaster’. We have a step to rename the logical files of the database to complete the operation:

Create a letter with addresses with MSSQL connection

We need to send out about 10.000 letters each month. They will be sent via postal services so I have to print them out with a new label/address on each letter. The envelope does have a window so the letter will be printed with the address.

All addresses will be found in a MSSQL database. I know how to make a SQL connection. I really need some input on how I would start doing this. The letter will be a twosided letter with the address in the upper right corner. How can I make a connection so that it loops trough the database for address and adds one by one. It should also add a new letter/page for each address found in the database.

Does anyone have a clue where to start or have any good ideas on how to accomplish a such thing?

Best regards Daniel

Font/letter spacing issue when printing from SSRS 2008 report page

We are developing reports in SSRS 2008.  When printing from the SSRS report page, we are seeing that that some text is "clumping" together or spaced oddly. I have tried a variety of printers so it's not printer-specific. If you export from the SSRS page to PDF or to Word and then print, everything prints as expected.

Nothing is as good as real text/names/data, but to reproduce, simply create several text boxes with...

I used several common fonts...
Arial, 10 pt (SSRS 2008 default)
Times New Roman, 12 pt (Office 2003 default)
Calibri, 11 pt (Office 2007 default)
Verdana, 11 pt
Tahoma, 11 pt

In the example above, I used normal weight, nothing fancy... If you use bold and underline, which is common for a page/column header or footer, this issue is even more apparent.

It feels similar to the following issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/482312/ssrs-report-font-rendering-issue

A workaround would obviously be to export to PDF and then print, but these are steps that our end users shouldn't have to (and won't want to) put up with to produce reports/invoices/etc. that ultimately go

Regex: password must contain one number, one letter, and 0 or more special chars

I'm trying to validate a password, and I'm almost there, but need some help finishing it off. Here's what I need:

1) 6-10 characters

2) At least one alpha AND one number

3) The following special chars are allowed (0 or more): !@#$%

Here's what I have:

Passwords that should work: test1ng, abc123, abc1234567, 123abc, abc!123, !@#$%1abcd, !@#$%a9

Passwords that shouldn't work: a, 1, a1, 1$, %, abc!@#, 012345, a1234+, abcde, test*ng, abcde!, !@#$%!, a1234567890, testit!0987, 1abcdefghij

It works on all my test cases, except it allows "a1234567890", "testit!0987", and "1abcdefghij", none of which should be allowed, since they contain more than 10 chars. What am I missing?
