Can you please tell me how you tell what percent of the SQL 2005 operations are read and what percen

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have to build a new SQL server and would like to pick the best hardware platform for our new server.   Our old server was RAID 1.   To figure out the best platform for the new server, I would need to know what percent of the time the sql discs are used for read and what percent for write.   I don't know much about SQL other than installing SQL and then adding an application to use SQL.   Forgive me if this is an obvious thing to look up.  FYI we are currently running SQL 2005 on our existing server.

Visual Studio 2005: Bridge the Gap Between Development and Operations with Whitehorse

Microsoft is introducing a new suite of tools (code-named "Whitehorse") that will make it easier for you to design and implement systems that conform to a service-oriented architecture. Two of these tools -- the SOA Design Suite and the Class Designer -- support the graphical design of systems and components with support for code generation and support for bi-directional synchronization which lets you ensure that your diagram always represents your system design. This article introduces these tools and shows you how they'll improve your design and development efforts.

Read Binary Data which is nothing but a Zip file and unzip through SSIS 2005 SP2

Hi ALL, I need some help in developing a task. I have a source database which is Oracle and it has a ZIP file stored inside the database in Binary format. When I move this data into the sql server 2005 database I get the data as binary data. Now the task begins with SSIS, I need to read the binary data which gives us a zip file and then unzip this zip file and read the XML data which is present inside the Zip file. I beleive some one might have already developed this task can you share the solution with us. Note: As this has to be moved into production I dont have permission to use third party tools like Cozy roc or install winrar.exe and simpy calling this exe from the execute process task in SSIS.  Raju

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:

How to Perform SQL Server Row-by-Row Operations Without Cursors

SQL cursors have been a curse to database programming for many years because of their poor performance. On the other hand, they are extremely useful because of their flexibility in allowing very detailed data manipulations at the row level. Using cursors against SQL Server tables can often be avoided by employing other methods, such as using derived tables, set-based queries, and temp tables

Scripts not read when in head tag

I just upgraded to VS2010 if that matters.  I'm learning JQuery and noticed that scripts don't work if they're in the head tag.  Also, I need the script tag with type="text/javascript" in the head (with nothing else) in order for the JQuery scripts in the body to work.

Very bizzare, any suggestions?

With a separate script tag in the <body> with my JQuery script, this works

<head runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" />
<script type="text/javascript">

This doesn't:

<head runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" />

Read Excel file from Web Application (C#)

I have a web app where user uploads a file.

File is saved in server locally and I want to read some data from it.

Currently my development  server has office 2003.

So do I need office 2007 in order to be able to  read an excel from office 2007 ?

What are other requirements  ?

I tried a test, using

Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application excelApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook wrkBook; // = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook();

wrkBook = excelApp.Workbooks.Open(@"C:\www\excel_files\b.xls", ....);

But When trying to open the file I get the error:

Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

So I'm wondering what I'm missing.
