License Issues when virtualizing a SQL 2008 onto Windows 2003

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I cannot get the SQL Server Agent to start.  All the literature and blogs I have found to correct this, have led me to the following quick fix:

sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
sp_configure 'affinity mask', 32;

However, when I try this, I get the following erros:

Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
Msg 5833, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
The affinity mask specified is greater than the number of CPUs supported or licensed on this edition of SQL Server.
Msg 15123, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_configure, Line 51
The configuration option 'affinity mask' does not exist, or it may be an advanced option.
Msg 5833, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
The affinity mask specified is greater than the number of CPUs supported or licensed on this edition of SQL Server.

Can anyone help?

Sharepoint 2003 + Windows Terminal Server 2008 + Office 2007 problem?

Hi, We have a customer where some users runs Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2007. They open documents from a Sharepoint 2003 site. When they open an excel sheet they get a button in the document which says "Server workbook: Click edit workbook to edit this workbook" and there is a button: "edit workbook" The users clicks "edit workbook" but get an error message saying there is no connection to the server.  They are able to edit the document, but not save it back to the sharepoint site. Most other users work on their local computer with Office 2003. Here, everything works fine and there are no button/message stating its a server workbook.   Is this caused due to some compatability issues between Sharepoint 2003 and Office 2007?   Best regards, Thomas Hansen ErgoGroup AS

Move SharePoint 2007 on Windows 2003 32-bit to Windows 2008 64-bit

I am planning to move SharePoint 2007 from a Windows 2003 32-bit system to a new Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server tomorrow afternoon.  I have done much research and found only one article that gives me enough information to go on for the migration.  Others in technet have cited this article; so, I expect it is the one go use.  However, before I begin, I wanted to see if anyone has anything else to add.

Here's the article I'm planning to use:

Our current environment consist of one front end server (Windows 2003 32-bit running MOSS 2007) and one SQL server (Windows 2008 Standard 64-bit with SQL 2008 640bit).  So, we don't need to move the SQL databases - just the SharePoint front end.  We are moving to Windows 2008 R2 with MOSS 2007 (same SP and patch levels are planned).

Our final goal is to move to SharePoint 2010 in the next week or two, but this seems to be the required first step.

Most of what I've read online contradicts other things.  I've found no consistency between articles.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

WSS 3.0 seach fail after migration from Windows Server 2003 with SQL 2000 to Windows Server 2008 wit

Hello we have a WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 with a single site, and we are trying to migrate it to another server with Windows Server 2008. All database are on a Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

We installed WSS 3.0 from scratch on the new server. We put the default databases on a server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Then we made a backup in the production server with the following command: stsadm -o backup -url https://portal -filename musa.bak

After that we restored the backup in the new server with the following command:  stsadm -o restore -url https://uymvd18 -filename c:\sharepoint\portal-2010-10-05-21-00-06.dat -overwrite

(portal is the name of the old server and uymvd18 is the name of the new one)

Everything worked ok, but the when we try to do a search in the new se

SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Memory Usage issues and not giving memory back

Okay so i have a physical server i am trying to replace with a virtual server. Its doing a large load process every night, about 190GB on one disk.

The VM is:

On vSphere 4.1 ESXi

O/S is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise

SQL version is SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

4 vCpus

Now 20GB of memory

Disks assigned to this virtual are all seperate LUNs except for the O/S which is on a shared LUN which is not busy. So 1 LUN/Datastore per 'disk drive on this SQL virtual. Data/Log/TempDB/Backup are on their own LUNs.

All the recommended exclusions are in place for McAfee on a SQL Server.

ESXi 4.1 Enterprise host is not overcommitted. Has 4 x 6core 2.6Ghz AMD processors. BL685c G6 and 128GB of memory. Almost nothing else is running at the time i am testing this load and host is not overcommited or stressed or anywhere near it.

SQLServer process shows 127,236K Working Set and 130,040K Peak working set and memory Private working set 88,828k and Commit Size of 302,792k.

It seems when i check the memory usage in task manager it doesn't show much. In Windows 2003 X64 in would show the GB being used, like 8GB right in task manager. But i don't see that in Windows 2008 R2 task manager. I downloaded SysInternals and it shows the memory on the Windows 2008 r2 box as 15Gb of AWE memory. How can this be? The case is th

SQL 2008 R2 Cluster unattended setup on Windows Server 2003

All the Docs on setup parameters state that the default for FILESTREAMLEVEL is 0 (filestream disabled) however whether it is defaulted or supplied as 0 the setup fails during installation because KB937444 is not applied to W2K3. Presumably this is because even if the filestream is disabled the software is still installed. But if this is a Pre Requisite why is this not validated at the start??

New Windows 7 compuer with SQL Server 2008 Express - permission issues

I avoided Vista because of the overbearing security issues but I put Windows 7 Ultimate on my new computer. I really like it so far except for 2 big issues. I won’t go into VPN nightmare I’m having here but the other is that for the first time ever I’m having lots of SQL Server permission issues. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, I run SSMS as an administrator how can I get full rights on my SQL Server as I had in XP where I could create files anywhere?

The first issue I had was that I couldn’t install the AdventureWorkLT DB because I didn’t have create permissions (that is bizarre default) but I got around that by granting Full Control to the Data folder.

Now I’m having another problem that I cannot solve. I cannot even export a SQL Query to a file. I get an “unrecoverable error” popup. Here is what is in event viewer but if click the link in event viewer the suggestions of how to fix it does not work.

Compatibility issues between Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Dear sirs,

When I was installing SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, I received a notice informing the software Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 has known compatibility issues with this version of Windows.

So how can I get around these problems?

I need to use Visual Studio 2005 to create the Integration Services packages.

Also, I need to migrate directories of Integration Services packages from a server with SQL Server 2005 32 bit on Windows Server 2003 32 bit for a server with SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2. How can I proceed to do this?

Thanks in advance.

ASP.NET (Razor) on Windows 2008 R2 + IIS7.5: config issues

I'm struggling to make my asp.net, using razor, to work on a Windows 2008 R2 + IIS7.5 server.

I can start the application (inside an "Application" folder within the "Default Web Site" but, my default.cshtml pages does not come up.
I did set the default document value to use default.cshtml as 1st try and only other entry is for index.html. All child level inherit from this top level (IIS root) setting. I verified my web.config file and there is no overwritting of the default document handling there.

If I access http://server/appfolder/ I get a 404; if I append default.cshtml to the request, my page show up.
Also, I use MVC URI, I have a page called start.cshtml in a "/modules" folder of my Application folder. I should be able to access it using http://server/appfolder/modules/start/ but again, it shows a 404. http://server/appfolder/modules/start.cshtml shows the page.

Note that all this works just fine when I run the application on my dev machine with IIS Express

I have IIZ7.5 + ASP.NET + set up file mapping handleing (for *.cshtml extention), this extension is not listed into the denied list (or I wouldn't even be able to access it when requesting a page), I have installed the MVC 3 component using the Web Platform and a bunch of other things (URL Routing 2 for example) to try to make my application work as it does on local d

Word Automation Issue in Windows Server 2008 Hosting

The problem I am posting here is that I was facing nearly 2 weeks around. Any body comes with this stuff please help.

Word Automation in sample ASP.NET(C#) application.

I am using Microsoft.Office.Inetrop.Word Assembly for automation. Here I am reading a XXX.dot template file and fill the contents with dynamic data.

When i am executing my code in localhost:someportnumber the automation is working fine and I could get expected result and when I am hosting in my inetmgr(Windows XP is my OS) it is also working fine.

But the problem is that when I am hosting in my production server(Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition) I am not able to perform automation and results in the following error.

Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal
Message: Word has encountered a problem.
Source: Microsoft Word

The code gets failed in the following line:

ApplicationClass wordApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass();

Document wordDoc = wordApp.Documents.Add(ref oTemplate, ref oFalse, ref oMissing, ref oMissing); // Error in this line

I cannot able to proceed further. Can anybody please help me in solving this issue?

Thank you.
