SQL 2005 Agent Job failed with State: 8

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello,

I'm using SQL 2005 and try to create a SQL Agent Job.

I have a stored procedure named SP_Test with only one select statement on the local database A. The stored procedure is created by user: pesa and pesa is the db_owner of database A.
Then I created a Job in SSMS using pesa account and set the Job owner as pesa and Run as user: pesa.

When I ran the Job inside SSMS with pesa account, I got the following error:
2010-02-24 11:30:01.43 Logon       Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
2010-02-24 11:30:01.43 Logon       Login failed for user 'pesa'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

I understand that State: 8 means 'Password mismatch' . But I didn't enter any password when I ran the Job.

By the way, pesa is also a system admin account on the SQL 2005 server.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Shirley Xie

Login Failed for User "XXX" when login from a ETL machine for Sql Server 2005 SP2

Hi Guys, I have a straange issue with Login Failed errors coming intermittently probabaly twice in a week: I have a  production Database on Server A and we have Two ETL servers on Server B and Server C. Sometimes when the ETL's (SSIS) run from SERVER B I do get an error stating login failed for user "XXX" this user is a sql server user. And when I run the same package from Server C it does not give any error and runs smoothly. Both the packages uses the same configuration file to connect to the same database with the same user credentials. Also this error is not a frequent error but comes along once or twice in a weeK. Can anyone shed some light on this and let me know the root cause. Both servers have the same sql client version as well. All servers mentioned above are 64 bit windows 2003 servers. Raju

SQL Server 2005 x64: Intermittent "Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 10."

Hi, We are experiencing intermittent authentication errors "Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 10" on a customer's production server. This is a new server that has just been rolled out in the past several months. Rebooting the server appears to make the problem go away. We are using SQL authentication from a separate server that is running IIS. The application always uses the same username and password to connect. I am moving my data base from one computer to a new one. I placed the .bak file in the backup folder on the new computer (Windows Vista). The error is  (1067) The process terminated unexpectedly.

Initially the SQL Server was running over there, later one day it stopped. When trying to start manually I got "The process terminated unexpectedly" error. Tthen I uninstalled it and tried to install again, but got "Error 29503. The SQL Server service failed to start" error while installation and installation rolled back. If I install it using Local System and without "Enable User Instance" I get same error but after multiple retry it started. However my desktop application is not running and giving error message "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure process for the user instance. The connection will be closed".

I tried "sp_Configure .......... " and "Reconfigure" to enable user instance but still got "Failed to generate......" error.

Another problem is that SQL Server service starts in multiple retry.

I have tried most of the forum solutions however I am still getting the same error in my desktop application. Mos
