i would like to ask what the difference between sql server 2000 and 2005
Could you please advise me on this issue.
I have installed sql server 2000 client tools, and complete set up of sql server 2005 on my system.
The enterprise manager on sql 2000, crashes and and window vanishes, when ever i try to create DTS package.
They doubt its becos i am runnning both instance of sql server on the same machine- So its having some compactability issues.?
Can we run SQL server 2000, 2005 and 2008 on same machine with different instance ?
I am using windows 7 and i3 processor.
Thanks in advance.
Here at work most of us have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 installed on our machines. When one of us creates a 2000 DTS package on our machine, it cannot be opened on on any other machine with the same setup. It will only open on the machine where it was
created. We have had to use a machine that has only a 2000 installation in order to create DTS packages that can be opened on other machines.
Is there a solution to this problem?
In our SQL Server 2005 SP1 cluster, I have to retire the existing SAN and move all my databases to new SAN drive. I have successfully moved all datafiles (user, system databases, resource) except master database.
Even when I change the parameters in start-up from configuration manager, I am getting error when starting up from cluster administrator / configuration manager.
But I am able to start the SQL Server successfully from command line (without any flags).
When I start the SQL Server from cluster administrator / configuration manager (after changing the parameters), I see that the start-up parameters are changing back to originalpath (old SAN) .
Please let me know incase you need any more information.

We are migrating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 R2 and our web application having thousands of SQL Statement with "Column Alias in ORDER BY Clause ".It is very difficulty to change all
One of article says that SQL Server 2005/SQL Server 2008 not support
"Column Alias in ORDER BY Clause and we have to replace with column name" because of this issue If we change Alias name to column name, we have do enter application/integrity testing.
it is going to be big deal.
our client Decided to stop migration, Please some help is there any other alternative.

Hello we have a WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 with a single site, and we are trying to migrate it to another server with Windows Server 2008. All database are on a Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
We installed WSS 3.0 from scratch on the new server. We put the default databases on a server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
Then we made a backup in the production server with the following command: stsadm -o backup -url
https://portal -filename musa.bak
After that we restored the backup in the new server with the following command: stsadm -o restore -url
https://uymvd18 -filename c:\sharepoint\portal-2010-10-05-21-00-06.dat -overwrite
(portal is the name of the old server and uymvd18 is the name of the new one)
Everything worked ok, but the when we try to do a search in the new se
I plan to migrate a SQL 2000 instance with everything in it to another SQL2000 server, and eventually in the future to SQL 2005.
I've pretty much figured out how to migrate everything execept the linked server configuration (there're many linked servers configured in the old server with different security credentials).ÃÂ I'm wondering if there's way I can save the linked server configuration and restore it to the other server.
Could anyone tell me the features comparision between sql server 2000, 2005 and 2008 in the table format like below.
sql server 2000 features | Extra features added/supported in 2005 | Extra features supported in 2008

In SQL server 2000 and 2005, I used to have a nice practical list of all SQL Server sessions and list of locks with useful details make troubleshooting quite easy.
In SQL Server 2008 list of locks are taken out from the “Management” section of SSMS and there is a clumsy “Activity Monitor” option which
doesn’t provide information about sessions and locks in the nice way we used to have in SSMS 2005.
Using SSMS 2008, Is there any way to get the same list of locks and sessions similar to what we had in SSMS 2005?
