MaxStringContentLength Issue with WCF/Silverlight communications

We are having what appears to be a fairly common issue in that we are not able to send requests to our IIS based WCF service that exceed the 8192 MaxStringContentLength default.  I have been through a vast number of posts relating to this issue and have verified and/or addressed the issues of setting the length to a higher number and making sure that our endpoint has a bindingConfiguration that points to the correct binding. I have been looking at this on and off for a number of days and have not made any progress.  If anyone has any suggestions about how to correct the issue it would be massively appreciated.  The following is the pertinent information concerning our configuration and call structure: web.config <system.serviceModel> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="MyServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <bindings> <customBinding> <binding name="MyServiceBinding"> <binaryMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="2147483647" maxWritePoolSize="2147483647" maxSessionSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="2147483647" maxStringContentLength=&qu

Pathing issue with Silverlight

I am a total newbie to SharePoint. I am teaching myself from the Sahil Malik Apress book so if the way I am doing something is odd then blame the book! Basically what I am doing is creating a web part and embedding a Silverlight app as a module as opposed to a Silverlight web part- apparently this is necessary for some of the examples later on. However my webpart does not seem to be able to find the xap file. Here is the background http://sharepoint/sites/SiteCollection1/SitePages/Home.aspx this is my site collection When I deploy I deploy to http://sharepoint/sites/SiteCollection1/ The MIME type is enabled in IIS The webpart is rendered like this     StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.AppendLine(   "<object style=\"display:block\" data=\"data:application/x-silverlight-app\" type=\"data:application/x-silverlight-app\" width=\"600px\" height=\"500px\">"); sb.AppendLine(   "<param name=\"source\" value=\"/SilverlightXAP/SLScheduler2.xap\" />"); sb.AppendLine(   "<param name=\"onError\" value=\"onSilverlightError\" />"); sb.AppendLine(   "<param name=\"initParams\" value=\"MS.SP.url=" + SPContext.Current.Site.Url + "\" />");

Silverlight and WCF bahavior name causes issue?

Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight 4, .net 4.0.

I have a simple Silverlight application. On the server I added a WCF Service. With that I get a default entry into my web.config file

<behavior name="">
<serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" />
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" />

Security Validation / Silverlight issue?

When Security Validation is turned off on a 2010 web application, the Silverlight menus break in that web app.  Why is that?  I've seen it across many farms, so I know it's an issue.

Sharepoint 2007 - Silverlight - caching issue

I have a Sharepoint 2007 site (Custom Template) . The data entry forms are created in Silverlight and host it on Sharepoint.

I use a User Control hosting webpart and host the XAPs.

To be in details : I place the XAP under _layouts. I create a user Control and place at _ControlTemplates and use a Object Tag in the User Control and refer to the XAP. Now on the Sharepoint page I add a (Custom) User COntrol hosting Webpart , refer the User Control (.ascx) , so that my XAp is hosted on the Sharepoint Site.

Problem Statement : I face a refresh problem when I deploy the XAP to _Layouts. When ever I deploy , if I replace my XAp with the latest , the changes in the XAP are not being reflected immediately. i have to restart my Server . instead i am creating a new Directory in _layouts , every time i deploy the XAP and updating the path in the UserControl(.ascx) , which works.

What is solution so that I dont create folders every time i deploy ? Can anyone please help.

Serving Silverlight Apps from Windows Mobile

Even if mobile dev is not my every day work, thanks to the .Net Compact Framework, it's still .Net programming.

Here is the scenario:

You come back home, you have a windows mobile phone wifi capable and you want to quickly get access to your phone pictures from your home network.
You just activate the Wifi, run my app and then browse to the provided link from any computer on the network.

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.

Silverlight Simple Animation

Silverlight has several built in techniques for animating controls. Many of these technologies are particularly useful for creating simple animations meant to decorate a web page with eye catching movement that draws the reader's attention. In this post I will skip over these decorative technologies, and instead show how to create a simple animation using a technique similar to those used in many games.

Feature available to Silverlight 4 with VS 2010.

Silverlight Slideshow Viewer for SharePoint

This series will walk through the Building Blocks that I have created to demonstrate and improve the SharePoint end user experience. I have been using many of these techniques in my developer focused demos for SharePoint 2010 (and in some cases SharePoint 2007). My plan is to use this post series to distribute my code and provide more detail on the why and the how of many of my code samples

Easier Silverlight Development against SharePoint

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately working with Silverlight 3 and SharePoint. One of the first big shifts for me is that Silverlight Development is Client development. Silverlight runs in the browser, but it runs on the client, so no SharePoint Object Model code. You have to access all of the goodness that is SharePoint through its web services.

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Visibility property is a very powerful and yet often overlooked property available in both WPF and Silverlight. It enables you to set Visibility of certain UIElement objects to different states like: Visible, Collapsed and Hidden (not supported by Silverlight). This tutorial shows you how to use it and how to bind to Visibility property

Getting Started With Silver light

Integrate Reporting Services with Silverlight and RIA Services

One of the most wanted future features in Silverlight is the possibility to create business reports using Reporting Services. In this article, I will show how to use the existing Reporting Services technology with Silverlight and RIA Services combination.

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Error Code: 0x8007007b

Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler

Module: IsapiModule

Requested URL: http://localhost:80/ReportServer

Physical Path: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer

When I enable Failed Request Tracing Rules and view the log output I am supposing that the actual problem is in the 2nd call where there are 2 backslashes before the actual filename in the specified path:
