then did this on a sample application - >

SqlCeDatabase sqlCeDb = new SqlCeDatabase("Data Source=\\my documents\\TestSqlCeLib.sdf");

but it gives me error on - The type 'System.Data.Common.DbParameter' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

XSLT: Simplify Development and Maintenance of Microsoft .NET Projects with Code Generation Technique

Code generation techniques using technologies such as XSLT are playing an increasingly important part in software projects as they support the development of a rapidly maintainable code base. This article discusses some of the benefits and possible applications of code generation.To demonstrate these techniques the author develops a Web Forms application that supports the maintenance of records in a SQL Server database, using the database's own metadata to drive the generation process. The SQL Server database schema is extracted using SQLXML 3.0 data access and processed through XSLT stylesheets that generate both a database access layer and a Web Forms user interface with query and update pages.

Microsoft Data Mining VS SAS Enterprise Miner

Hi We are thinking about using either Microsoft's data mining module for a task or use SAS Enterprise Miner. Price is not a factor. It is my impression that SAS Enterprise Miner is stronger concerning configuring the models with the statistical parameters etc. Does anyone know good arguments for using or not using Microsoft when price is NOT an issue? Thanks, Dennis

Shielding Exceptions at WCF Service Boundaries using Microsoft Enterprise Library 4.1

To enable the exception shielding feature in my WCF service I have done the following steps Added references of the following assemblies: Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.dll Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.WCF.dll Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Common.dll Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder2.dll Added a Using statement for Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.WCF. Added the ExceptionShielding attribute to a service implementation class and specified the name of the exception policy to use as a constructor parameter. Add the Exception Handling Application Block configuration sections to the service's Web.config file. <add name="WCFServicePropogate">         <exceptionTypes>           <add type="System.Exception, mscorlib, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"             postHandlingAction="ThrowNewException" name="Exception">             <exceptionHandlers>               <add exceptionMessage="I created the exception" faultContractType=

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Installation Problem

Good evening!

I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition (x86 and x64) from MSDNAA (i study computer science) and also  Windows 7 Professional (x86). I installed Windows 7 and i tried to install SQL Server but i receive the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed. SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed." error. I tried installing .NET Framework but it doesn't work because it's installed by default with Windows 7 (i checked the "Turn Windows features on or off" page and the "Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1" checkbox is checked). I understand that this means .NET framework 3.5 SP1 is also installed so i shouldn't have any errors.

Can anyone help me with this installation problem?

Thank you!

Question on Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 for a mobile web application

Our company is in the process of building a new website dedicated for mobile devices.

Since we are starting from scratch, I would like to consider implementing the Microsoft Patterns & Practices Enterprise Library 5.0 on the site.

I would like to ask others what they think

1) Is this too much overhead where speed is mission critical?

2) Have you implemented this library for a mobile site? If so, why? Please describe your experience.

3) Given time and resources, would you implement this library?

I appreciate all feedback

Microsoft Enterprise Library 5.0 - Logging Application Block Activation Error

Hi folks,

I've been writing a class where I wanted to write the errors off to the OS EventLog. I was pointed towards the Logging Application Block. I used LogWriter successfully in a web page and transfer the code to the class so that I could have the functionality there.

I keep getting an {"Activation error occured while trying to get instance of type LogWriter, key \"\""} Error when I reach this line of code:

private LogWriter writer = EnterpriseLibraryContainer.Current.GetInstance<LogWriter>();

I had something similar with the daab getinstance call but I added the unity assemblies to the code and this resolved this. I thought this was the issue with this problem.

Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance folks.

app.config code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
        <section name="loggingConfiguration" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Configuration.LoggingSettings, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging, Version=5.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="true" />

Should I use Microsoft Enterprise Library

Hi everyone,

I need to know if it is advantageous to use Microsoft Enterprise Library. I'm gonna use it mainly for it's Data Access Application Blocks. My web application needs to access 3 SQL Server (only) databases, one of which for almost all database accesses and the other two at specific points of a process.

I also want to know how the enterprise library handles the connection to the database, i.e. does it automatically open and close the connection by using the DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase method and a dataset to be filled with the results? Does it handle the multiple simultaneous database accesses?

what is the difference between using DAAB and old fashion open connection- execute command - close connection In terms of performance and load of database connections?

Thank you so much for your help in advance

Microsoft AJAX CDN

Content delivery networks (CDNs) are composed of "edge cache" servers that are strategically placed around the world at key Internet network points. These "edge cache" servers can be used to cache and deliver all types of content - including images, videos, CSS and JavaScript files.

Using a CDN can significantly improve a website's end-user performance, since it enables browsers to more quickly retrieve and download content. For example, instead of having a browser request for an image traverse all the way across the Internet to your web server to download, a CDN can instead serve the request directly from a nearby "edge cache" server that might only be a single network hop away from your customer (making it return much faster - which makes your pages load quicker).

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

CLR Integration With Microsoft SQL Server

Transact-SQL provides as much flexibility as possible but, because it is not a real programming language, it has some shortcomings about many issues (memory management, exception handling, debugging, file processing (or streaming), object-orientation (classes), or thread management). Transact-SQL also lacks features of normal libraries (arrays, collections, serialization, expressions, or string manipulations, etc).

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Building Layered Web Applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 - Part 1

"Building Layered Web Applications" that shows you how to build N-Layer applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. These articles teach you how to design, build and use custom business objects in your web application. The target audience for this series are developers that are ready to make the switch from using SqlDataSource controls to ObjectDataSource controls with custom business objects. Experience with ASP.NET 2 and C# is necessary while some knowledge about object oriented design certainly helps. The design I am going to show you in these articles is a simplified version of a design you would use in a real world application. It doesn't feature all the necessary functionality your application needs, but instead focuses on the underlying concepts.

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.
