implementing a search similar to what you have in google when you type in a word

Dear all;

I have a textbox and what I would like to implement is basically a situation similar to what you have in google when you type in a word. In otherwords,

in the textbox when you type in J, it should generate a list of names that starts with O in alphabetical order, then next when you type in o, so that now you have Jo, it should generate a list of names instead that now starts with Jo in alphabetical order, then again when you type in h, it should generate a list of names that starts with Joh and so on. A sample code could be helpful. Thank you. No Javascript of Jquery please. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Ingest google Search Index into Sharepoint 2007

Hi Folks

I am wondering if there is a way to ingest google search index into SharePoint index such that when people search via SharePoint they see the Google results too… incorporated/federated inline with the SP results (not as a separate "box" ).

We have Google search in our environment and also share-point search. Share-point search for sharepoint site but Google search is for all other environments. Now i am thinking if we ingest the Google search index into share-point then may be its great deal to provide user a platform to search everything on one place.

Autocompleteextender problem in google chrome

Hi, I've used autocompleteextender inside a repeater control. On OnClientItemSelected event of autocompleteextender i am setting some hidden field value to use it on server. The code is working fine in all browsers except google chrome. Actually when i traced the code, event is occuring and hidden field is getting value set but the hidden field value is not appearing on the server. On the server i got empty hidden field.

problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all, i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to. i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance. we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server. everything seems to work fine. but as you know, the default database names are horrendous. i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin database. the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_
the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem. we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx). it says to enter the following command: $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver" however, i get an error about identity being null. no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application. but the real problem comes the error it throws: Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : The requested database move was aborted as the associated search application is not paused. At line:1 char:54 + $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication <<<< -Identity "Search Service Application" -DatabaseName "ShareP

Problem With SharePoint Designer 2010 and the Search.asmx Web Service

I've created a web service datasource on a 2010 site using SharePoint Designer. When I try to make use of the datasource on a page I get the "The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source..." message. The datasource connects to _vti_bin/search.asmx. I am using the QueryServiceSoap port and operation QueryX. I've tried various queryXml strings, including site & people searches using both SQL and keyword syntax. eg <QueryPacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Query" Revision="1000"><Query domain="QDomain"> <SupportedFormats><Format>urn:Microsoft.Search.Response.Document.Document</Format></SupportedFormats> <Context> <QueryText language="en-US" type="MSSQLFT"> SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, Description, Author FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS ('"Lorum"') AND ( ("SCOPE" = 'All Sites') ) ORDER BY "Rank" DESC </QueryText> </Context> <Range><StartAt>1</StartAt><Count>20</Count></Range> <EnableStemming>false</EnableStemming> <TrimDuplicates>true</TrimDuplicates> <IgnoreAllNoiseQuery>true&l

FAST Search Installation Problem

I tried the post install step for Fast Search on a Windows 2008 server without domain names (I used local user names only, due to constraints of our sandbox machine on our production network). The post-install step failed. In the installer log file I see: 1/4/2010 2:13:18 PM Verbose InstallAction - Creating IPSec configuration... 1/4/2010 2:13:22 PM Error Utility.WriteException - Exception - : Exception - System.ArgumentException: A problem occurred when retrieving information on machine: watsdevsp2010. Make sure the machinename is spelled correctly and that the machine is available ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Extended.Installer.Mahasen.Common.IPSec.IPSecException: Exception occurred while looking up SID for machine: "watsdevsp2010". LDAP filter: "(&(objectCategory=computer)(objectClass=computer)(cn=watsdevsp2010))". Path: "LDAP://DC=watsdevsp2010". ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007054B): The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. where it fails an IPSec configuration step. I tried commenting out C:\FastSearch\installer\scripts\psconfig.ps1 file where the steps are for "Creating IPSec configuration", but apparently this file is dynamically created and overwrites my commenting out of this step. Has anyone successfully installed FAST search in a local account only scenar

Response.Redirect problem in Google Chrome

I'm building an ASP.NET 3.5 webapplication using VB.NET, and I'm having problems redirecting to another URL when using Google Chrome. Other browsers like IE and Firefox are fine.My data entry forms all have an OK and an Cancel button, which are both handled server-side. The Cancel button just redirects back to the originating page, while the OK button will add or update a database record and then redirect to the originating page. The redirect to the originating page is done by calling the following shared sub on a general utilities class in my appication: Shared Sub Redirect(ByVal p_sURL As String) Dim l_sURL As String = p_sURL.ToLower If Left(l_sURL, 1) = "~" Then Dim l_oControl As New System.Web.UI.Control l_sURL = l_oControl.ResolveUrl(l_sURL) End If If Left(l_sURL, 1) <> "/" Then If Left(l_sURL, 7) <> "http://" AndAlso Left(l_sURL, 8) <> "https://" Then l_sURL = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority) & wsUtils.SiteRoot & l_sURL End If End If HttpContext.Current.Response.Redirect(l_sURL) 'HttpContext.Current.Response.Redirect(l_sURL, False) End Sub As you can see, I've tried using the extra argument in the Response.Redirect call, but that

How do you write a program that can search for things on Google?

I just finished a web scraper so I am not brand new to this but I don't know whow to have my program fill in the fields for a web form. Basically, there is a web application we use at work which I want to integrate with. The first thing you have to do is tell the web app that you are searching by city (via drop down list). The page refreshes. Then you type the name of the city into a text box and hit submit to get your results. I think it might be done in ASP.NET I can't rememebr off the top of my head. But just for a Hello World kind of app can someone tell me how to write a program that can do a search on Google? Like what does the request look like?

I'm sure this has been asked to death but I have researched and still confused. After getting search up and running I had a normal user try a search and it come up with everything on our file server including other users personal folders. How do I limit the search results to just the files he has permission to? I belive scope rules where I want to make this change but I have no idea what to put in there if I am in the right place. Will someone please point me int he right direction.
