Connection timeout and command timeout : they working?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello everyone
I'm checking these parameters to connect to a server from a wireless client in the presence of little or no coverage to alert the operator of the problem.
I tried to lower both the timeout to 5 seconds. But if there is no connection sometimes takes 90 sec. sometimes only 45sec. first to tell me that is not 'unable to contact the server.
The connection string I use is' this:
Provider = SQLOLEDB.1; Persist Security Info = False; User ID = sa; Initial Catalog = Ideabiella; Data Source = localhost; Connect Timeout = 5;
and when I open the command also sets the CommandTimeout to 5sec.
where am I wrong?

hello and thanks

SQL Server Express 2005 connection timeout issue.

Client: Sql Sever Management Studio Express 2005 (SSMSE) on Vista Server: Sql Server 2005 Express on Windows Server 2008 Standard When I first try to log into SSMSE from the client machine, the login operation times out. When I retry, the login succeeds almost immediately. If I close the app and re-open it, the same thing happens. This appears to be infinitely repeatable. I am able to reproduce this behavior using SQLCMD.exe. Here's the error: "Timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft SQL Server)" The technical details reference Error Number -2 What may be unique or tricky about this client's network is that it's a mixture of IPv4 and IPv6. I believe the server is configured for both, but honestly the networking side of things is outside of my expertise. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? I'm looking for some troubleshooting tips and of course a flat-out answer :-). Thank you in advance for your time and expertise - I hope I've broken the problem down to its simplest form. Will.

Command timeout in QA environment

Hi I am facing a very diff. problem. My stored proc execution runs perfectly on local developement environment, but in QA environment it just returns an error after 5 min.s(My stored proc. takes arround 15 min.s to complete), when i run my Stored proc from query analyzer it runs perfectly in 15 min.s. I tried to debug the code by pointing my local code to QA database, but that didn't give any error and ran perfectly. So i suspect there is something like commandtimeout happening in QA environment. Then i went on to check code at QA environment, it passes commandtimeout = 0 to the command object which means infinite. I am really puzzled by this. Please help me out if anyone can give me any idea to solve this...

SQL Database Connection Timeout

How do you modify the default 15 second timeout Connection Timeout on SQL databases in SQL 2005, for all users? I am able to modify the value on an individual basis through the options menu on the SQL Server 2005 login window however when signing on as a different user the changes do not carry to that users profile.

SSIS - Adjusting command timeout (good or bad practice)

Hi,   I'm building a bank reconciliation process where I'm leveraging SSIS to import, transform and insert data into a database.  I had a command timeout error at the transformation segment (Derived Column methods). At first was it difficult to determine (Ambigious SSIS errors), but in the end was easy to resolve.  I simply increased the timeout duration. Being a developer, I find this to be bad practice as the application should be optimized as much as possible prior to making a timeout adjustment.  An ideal method would have been to cache more data prior to calling the database command, so the data is available for processing and not keeping the command open unnecessarily. I'm relatively new to SSIS, but have been unable to determine a method to remove the transformation bottleneck. I could do it easily enough with customized .NET code, but I'd prefer not to do that.  My question - There must be a method in SSIS that buffers the data originating from the transformation prior to calling my INSERT to database method?   Thank you,   Russ

SQL 2005 open connection timeout error

We have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.4207.00 (X64)  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows server 2003 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) .

Periodically (~ once per 15 min) some db-clients have error messages when open connection (over SQL Native Client ) like:

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

All timeouts more or equal 15 sec. Less then 15 sec is not acceptable by business rules. Performance counters (cpu,memory,disk etc.) on server does not show bottleneck. Only one sql counter - logins/sec show trouble. When problem exists then this counter = 0. Also dramatically decrease many other counters - sql batch requests/sec, transactions/sec, cpu load and some ones. SQL Server "sleep" few seconds (4 - 5) and then accessible again.

Thanks.

dmv to show connection timeout value

Can't seem to find a DMV that shows if there is a connection timeout value (as might have been set in the connection string), is that known at the SQL Server end of things?

Thanks.

Timeout connection error during

Hi,
I have this strange problem during executing my dynamic data page:

Timeout. The available time expired prior to the completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
Description: Exception has been handled during execution of the current Web request. For more information about the error and where it originated in the code, see the stack trace.

Exception details: System.data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout. The available time expired prior to the completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

In debugger mode, the error is in the method:

public DynamicDataEntities(global::System.Data.EntityClient.EntityConnection connection) :
                base(connection, "DynamicDataEntities")
        {
            this.OnContextCreated();
        }

of my DynamicDataModel.designer.cs
in my solution.

But I have not other problems.

How can I solve?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have started getting this error since a week now when I try to schedule a report or change a schedule of a report.

An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError) Get Online Help For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

We have SQL Server 2008 installed along with SSRS running on the server. I have never seen this happening before for almost a year now but suddenly it appeared.  Along with this, report subscription is also messed up and some report are not been emailed as they have a error like:

Failure sending mail: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database.Mail will not be resent.

I am not sure what caused this but if anyone has any idea of what is going on it will be great.

Thanks you for your help.

Please reply soooon !!!

Connection timeout being ignored

Hi all,

Have a query that takes approx 30 seconds to execute when run from sql server management studio (sql2005), however when

I execute this query from a .net page using enterprise libray it times out after approx one minute.  The connection timeout on

the sql connection string is 600 seconds.

Does anyone know how I can set a timeout for this?

The code below shows the C# code

also i given the connection timeout =10.

and i cross checked the code  every ware i am closing the connection also........But still  i am getting the error as

connection timeout

My method executes lots of asynchronous SQL requests and I constantly get connection timeout exceptions. What else can I do except increasing the connection timeout value and proper indexing? I mean with the database part, not with the code part. Can't change the code part. Besides, the application is running fine on different servers, but only I experience those timeout exceptions on my pc and local MS SQL Server 2008 R2 database (which is also on the same PC). So I think this is clearly a performance issue since the connection timeout is already set to 3 minutes. Maybe there is something I can change on the server? Maybe there is a number of simultanious requests constraint? Each of my requests needs clearly less that 3 minutes, but there are about 26 000 of them running asynchroniously, and only I experience those problems on my local PC and local DB.

Row command working on all rows not selected one?

Hi,

I have this code that hides a column in a gridview.  (The column houses another nested gridview).

    Protected Sub GridView1_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowCommand
        If e.CommandName = "Select" Then
            If GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False Then
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = True
            Else
                GridView1.Columns(0).Visible = False
            End If
        End If
    End Sub

The trouble is that if I click the select link on one row that action to hide is carried out on all rows.  How can I set this up so that it only hides the row that is selected?

Thanks.
