Is it possible to store objectdatasource in session or viewstate to use on another page?

Im building my objectdatasource on different button events.. so id like to know if i can store that or the results in a session or viewstate so i can use it on a pop-up window. explanation: User arrives at our page. They select or enter specific information to search.. results found are presented in a gridview, that is currently bound to the objectdatasource. Within that gridview i will be adding a button to open a new window that will display a googlemap with the location marked on the map. Also will be adding a button to view all the results on the map. So if your search returns 10 records and you want to see all 10 marked on the map, they can click the "View All" button and they are all marked on the map.. Or if you want to just view 1 at a time, you select that record and it display just that record on the map.   So not sure what i should do to accomplish this.

Session/Cache/Others in ASP.Net MVC application

We are developing an application which has tabbed views for user input. We need to "cache" the data entered in one tab while the user is filling up other tab. Though "Form Caching" is not allowed.

Please let me know the following:

  1. What is the best way of temporarily storing data in ASP.Net MVC web application?
  2. Are sessions a good idea?
  3. Are OutputCache and ResultCache the forbidden "Form Cache"?

Store UserControl in session

Is it possible to store a user control in session??  I have a menu user control and depending on the user's permissions and the current page, different item may show up.  For one page, the menu can contain almost 50 items and I want to cache that user control so I don't have to recreate it everytime (I turn viewstate off to reduce page size).  Output caching is out of the question since this should be session based.  Any ideas?

How to store more than 4k bytes of data in SQL CE 4?

I need to store more than 4k of bytes in my SQLCE 4 database. How can I do that with the ASP.NET Web Pages 1.0?

1: The Microsoft.Data provider fails when I try to populate a parameter with more than 4k bytes.
2: Referencing SqlServerCe assembly and using SqlCeConnection/SqlCeCommand/SqlCeParameter throws exception:  SQL Server Compact is not intended for ASP.NET development.

How can I somehow map the generic DbType, which does not have NText as an option, to the ntext column in my database? (SqlCeParameter supports DbSqlType, which has ntext, but see problem #2)

SQL Server Session state problem.

Hi to all,

I have some things that I want to know. I am right now using a free asp.net webhosting ("somee.com"). The problem is that when I am visiting a page, there's a tendency that values stored in my session variables are lost. Therefore, it causes an error when the requested page is loaded.

1. I am thinking of using sessionState mode="SqlServer". Will it solve my problem?

Actualy Im working on it but Im having problems when connecting to the sql database.

2.  Is that a problem in the webhost?

3. Do free webhosting sites provide allow session state in the sql server?. Because ive tried it locally into my computer and error say's i should intall the ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above.

Datatable in session

I am creating a simple shopping cart using a datatable that is passed into a session object.  I have a small mini cart that displays the total number of items in the cart as well as the running total - this is displayed in a web control.  When the web control starts up I run a try/catch to see if the session object exists, if it doesn't I create the datatable for the cart and store it in the session.  I then have a datalist control that contains all the information for my products including an "add to cart" button.  When the page loads everything looks fine.  If I click on an "add to cart" button nothing happens to the session information.  If I click on it again, the session information updates - displaying only one item is in the cart and then counts up correctly there after.  Additionally, after adding an item, if I select a different item in the list, the same issue occurs.  I am not sure why this is happeing, if anyone can give me an idea I would appreciate it.
