excel-like spreadsheet

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I want to have / make a control that resembles an Excel spreadsheet, so that you can copy rows or cells in a normal excel sheet and then paste it into my asp.net application so that these show as they were in Excel, separated by cells and rows in the same way. I've searched a lot on the internet and I can't find a control that allows what I want. I do not want a lot of extra features, only the ability to copy data from excel sheet to the application, so that I can then add this to a database.

If anyone is wondering what kind of data i'm talking about, it is an article register to be filled in the application by the user, and that's why i need to separate the values just like in excel. I want a user to be able to add let's say 30 articles at once. Each user has its own register.

So, is there anyone who has heard of a similar control or have any ideas on how I can go about in creating one?

I'm coding in asp.net c#

Export SharePoint List to Excel Spreadsheet Programmatically using C#

In SharePoint applications, Custom Lists are used to store business data and Document Libraries to store the documents. But for data manupulation and analysis, Microsoft Excel provides very rich features as compared to SharePoint Lists. That's why people still loves to work on Microsoft Excel Sheets.

Importing Excel 2007 spreadsheet into WSS 3.0 -- Error Message

I'm trying to import (Custom Lists >> Import Spreadsheet) into WSS 3.0 and I'm getting the following message:

Refers to the _layouts

You are not authorized to view this page.  You might not have permissions to view this direcotyr or page using the credentials you supplied. [More stuff here.]

Is this just a permissions problem or is there some other underlying issue?  Should you be able to upload an Excel spreadsheet (with links) into a Custom List?

Document Library "export to spreadsheet" doesn't export all columns in Excel 2003

Hi, we are working with MOSS 2007, Infopath Forms Services, KPIs and Excel 2003. There is a view for some data of the Infopath forms which has to be exported to Excel by our users, but some columns are not exported - without any error message. If I try to export it to Excel 2007 everything is exported as expected, but our users have to use Excel 2003. Any idea?

Text truncated to 255 using SSIS ACE.oledbprovider to import excel 2007 spreadsheet

Hi All, Trying to use SSIS SQL 2005 to import an Excel 2007 file (.xlsx). I'm using Office 12.0 Access Database Engine OLEDB Provider with extended properties Excel 12.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1 The problem is when I have text with more than 255 characters. It basically defaults the source output to Unicode string[DT_WSTR] 255, If I change it it errors out. I have done the registry change according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141683.aspx but I think it only applies to Excel source not OleDb Source. (A Excel source does give me a text instead of string )   I have also tried to increasing the length of output such as 4000 instead of 255 but it doesn't allow either.   Anybody can help?I'm stuck for a day. Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Koala

Adding data from Excel spreadsheet to SQL table

This is not a programming question, I simply have a lot of data in two columns in an excel spreadsheet of data that I gathered.  I want to copy and paste this (manually) into a table that I have created in my ASPNETDB in my ASP.NET web application.  I thought it'd be as easy as copy the column, and hit paste in the "table data" view, but it's not (it only pastes one cell). Is there a way for me to manually copy data from excel and paste it in a table in my SQL Server? Thanks in advance! :)

Reading Excel Spreadsheet from Cell A7

I don't know a lot about SSIS.  I have an excel spreadsheet where cell A1 and A2 have varchar values and B1 and B2 have decimal values.  Rows 3, 4, and 5 are blank.  Row 6 has the header column names and the data itself starts in A7 through F7.  I am not interested in rows 1 through 5.  The data ends in row 44.  Row 45, 46, and 47 are blank and in cell D48 it has the comment End of Report.  I am only interested in loading A7 through F44.  I do not know if the row count could grow or if it always stays at line 44.  Is there a way to tell SSIS to skip the first 5 rows, read the 6th row as the header and to start loading from A7?lcerni

Populate Excel Spreadsheet Starting At Specific Row

I am trying to populate an excel workbook using a data flow and it no longer works. I have a command button in cell a1, so the column headings need to start in row 3 and the data in row 4. also the column headings need to be red background. the data is ending up in the right row but no all the rows are also red. everything was working fine, now it is broken and cant figure out why. first i DROP TABLE, to clear the contents of the worksheet, this now only clears the column headings, the i CREATE TABLE, to put back the column headings, this works. Then using the data flow I populate the spreadsheet, it end up in row 3, which is right, but honetly i dnot know why. the problem is all the data rows are red. can anyone please help me with this. thanks.

When i export a list in excel 2007, it creates two extra columns named as type and path. At the same time this behaviour is not exhibited in office 2000. Is there any way to remove these two columns without using code ? Is there any configuration settings required for this, to remove it on the fly ? Thanks Ravish Verma

Output table from database to excel spreadsheet asp.net c#

Hi All, I'm hoping someone can help me with a small problem. I want to output some data returned from a sql server database and output it out to an excel file. My thinking was to create some excel templates, copy the required one that I want to use and output the data to that. I can pull the data back from the database OK, but have no idea how to write this to the excel spreadsheet. I want to try and keep the code as generic as possible so that I can use it to output a resultset to the correct copied template. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Import Access table or Excel spreadsheet into Oracle table

I am trying to import from an Excel spreadsheet or an Access database into an Oracle table.  I used the SSIS Import and Export wizard to create the SSIS packages, but everytime that I attempt to run the package, SSIS stops once it gets to the Pre-Execute phase.  There are never any errors.  Am I doing something that cannot be done?

I'm using the following:  SSIS 2005, Microsoft Oracle OLEDB provider (MSDAORA.1), Excel and Access 2003

By the way, I am able to successfully export from the Oracle database to either Excel or Access using SSIS.

Read only error trying to copy and paste rows of records from Excel spreadsheet

I'm using Sharepoint 2010 and trying to open a list in Edit in Datasheet View. The list opens but when I try to paste lines into the sheet I get a Read-only error and it doesn't accept my paste. I removed all required fields.

I'm using XP and IE8

This function was working in SharePOint 2007.

Cannot Use Excel Spreadsheet (xlsx) as Template for Content Types or Document Libraries

I have created a document library, specifying that the 'Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet' be used as the document template.  When I try to create a new document by selecting the template from the 'new Document' drop down, I get a message stating that 'The document could not be created.  The required application may not be installed properly, or the template for this document library cannot be opened.' Additionally, the template is opened as template[1].xltx in notepad (with all of the funny characters you would expect).

I have Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on my computer, and I am able to open XLSX and XLTX files from SharePoint (just not from the 'new document' button).  I also have no problem with PowerPoint or Word templates in SharePoint. I am also able to open the excel template by navigating to the template in explorer view.  I've found that if I open Excel before I attempt to create a new document, the template will open in Excel, however the document is titled 'Template1' instead of 'Document1' as would be expected.  Any thoughts?

Excel spreadsheet properties push to sharepoint library columns

Hope this is the right forum; if not, please direct me to the right one.

In Excel 2007 I am filling in a document property programmatically in an Excel 2003 spreadsheet, and creating/filling a custom one.  Just FYI, I use the following VBA code:

    ActiveWorkbook.BuiltinDocumentProperties("Company") = "TEST COMPANY NAME"
ActiveWorkbook.CustomDocumentProperties.Add "Manager's Name", False, msoPropertyTypeString, "TEST MANAGER NAME"

Then I save the document to a SharePoint library.  Right now it is saved as a 2003 version spreadsheet (.xls).  There are a Company column and a Manager's Name column in the SharePoint library, and Microsoft's online documentation says the properties should populate the corresponding columns in the library.  But they don't!

That's my problem--getting them to populate.  Incidentally, thinking that the spreadsheet version was the problem, I have tried saving these documents both as 2003 spreadsheets and 2007 spreadsheets in my code, but the SharePoint columns never populate either way.  The only way I can do it is by manually filling in the document property from the UI.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, either in Excel or SharePoint or somewhere in between, to cause this?  Is there a non-code solution to the problem?  I can do some C# code if I h
