Can this be any harder? SQL Express 2005 needed on a 64bit Windows 7 upgraded machine

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I run a program, WinPakSE, that controls a card access system for our building. I just upgraded the computer it ran on from XP to Windows 7 Prof 64 bit. I checked with Honeywell and they said the program will only work in 64 bit environment if I installed SQL Express 2005 and ran WinPak in XP Mode. They sent me some instructions and the following link to download SQL Express 2005:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=220549b5-0b07-4448-8848-dcc397514b41&displaylang=en

So I did that and followed their directions. First thing I get a message that their are known compatibility issues and need to upgrade to Service Pack 3. Ok- I can do that. Next problem is it gives me this a warning message under ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement that says:
- ASP.Net Version Reg

Upgraded to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64bit and now all my VS2010 db apps won't run

I am running WIN764bit, VS2010 and just "upgraded" from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 Express R2 64 bit.  When I went back into VS2010 and tried to run and test several database apps that I have developed, I find that I keep getting the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instrance".  I have read a lot of threads here but I am not getting anywhere.  I can create a new SQL Server database, but can't find any of my existing .dbo connections and can't open any of the .mdf's from within Server Explorer (VS2010).  Any ideas? BTW the install went fine. And I have User Instance set to True in VS2010.

Creating DSN for local machine in SQL Server Express 2005

Good evening,

This is my first time with SQL Server, so please forgive me if this is a ridiculous question:

I'm trying to create a DSN so I can connect up to SQL Server Express 2005 on my laptop/local machine. I'm attempting to connect via Windows NT authentication. I've tried 'Named Pipes' and TCP/IP settings but am not able to connect. I keep getting an error that states:

SQLState: '01000'

SQL Server Error: 2

Connection failed

SQLState: '08001'

SQL Server Error: 17

SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Is the server created by just installing SQL Server 2005, or is there something additional I need to do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Silent installation of SQL Express 2005 SP3 (English) on localized European Windows Systems fails wi

Dear Colleagues,

We deliver C++ med. application with several prerequisites, including SQL Express 2005 SP3. All installations are flawless but!

The problematic installation is on German\French systems (this far it was Windows 7 32-bit, but I would expect it to fail on all flavors of supported Windows, including 64-bit, Vista etc).

SQL Express 2005 SP3 fails to recognize localized parameter [German or French]

SQL Server Express 2005 on localized Windows

SQL Express 2005 SP3 silently installs - by using command line options and switches - well on all English editions of Windows.

However, when it comes to German (localized) Windows 7 (I suspect that other German OS editions as well), SQL Express fails to recognize recommended SQLACCOUNT="NT-AUTORITÄT\SYSTEM"; simple removal of this option from command line - and silent install goes through but sets default account to Network Service, and we really need LocalSystem instead. Oh, manual installation goes fine with all configurations, including LocalSystem; unfortunately we have to use silent install for all our customers.

Similar problem detected while installing SQL Express 2005 on French Windows 7 - SQLACCOUNT="AUTORITE NT\SYSTEM" is not taken well by installer.

Please kindly recommend a solution for this issue

How to upload files to remote machine using FTP or other method in VB.Net 2005 (Windows Application)

I have to create an application to upload and download files using FTP.
Are there any classes, methods in VB.Net 2005(Windows Application) to do this?

I have created a small GUI for this.

It contains 4 text boxes - Path of Local file to be uploaded, IP address of remote machine, User name and password of remote machine At last there is one Transfer button when I click on this transfer button that file should get copied to the remote machine.

I tried this using FTPWebRequest class by reading example in msdn.

But to connect to remote machine it requires URI format of FTP and I only have IP address of that remote machine. I think there is no web server on that remote machine.

Should I need to install web server on that remote machine.

Or is there any other method to do upload files to remote machine ?

Merge replication setup with SQL EXPRESS 2005 on Windows 7 Professional

Hi all,

I have a web app that runs on local and use merge replcation using sql server 2005 standard on the server and sql express 2005 on clients on XP. As you know, XP Pro laptops are getting hard to find. We are trying to change to Windows 7 Pro x64. I installed SQL Express 2005 and I don't see a subscription on "Sync Center" after I created local subscription using SSMS. I normally see the subscription in Synchronize in XP Pro right away.

I googled about this issue and not really have a good solution. There is one link saying Windows 7 not supporting Express 2005 anymore. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/repltalk/archive/2010/03/24/using-windows-synchronization-manager-on-x64-to-synchronize-replication-revised.aspx

If so, I would like to know what would be a solution such as can I use Sql Express 2008 R2 instead of Sql Express 2005 for client even if the server is still SQL Server 2005 Standard edition. We are planning to upgrade, but we need to hire 5 to 10 people now. My boss does not want us to keep using XP Pro.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
