SSMS/sqlwb.exe hangs when expanding indexes on table in object explorer when table has 10 or more in

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Greetings, I have had an anoying problem in SSMS for some time, it seems to hang in the object explorer when I try to expand indexes on a table that has 10 or more indexes. It works fine when we have fewer indexes but when there are 10 or 12, it opens up and shows the indexes and you can work with them (script them, drop, etc.) but the "stop" button in object explorer shows red and is unresponsive as in you can't click and stop it. Eventually I will shut down SSMS and reopen to clear it, but in task manager there is still the sqlwb.exe running and its using 50% or more of the CPU and I have to end that process. I am running SQL 2005 management studio 9.00.4035.00. Any ideas on a fix out there would be appreciated.

How to access the refrenced table fields in Ilist object of table MVC asp.net

Hello,

I have 2 tables, master, detail. 1.master table have fields (id, username, plan)-->id is primary key (PK) 2. detail table have fields (srNo,id, worksummary, ... )--> srNo is PK.

I have created foreign key relationship from detail to .master table for "id" field.

the code is:

IList<detail> objDetail=new List<detail> ();
IList<master> objMaster = new List<master> ();
string[] sarray = queryFields.Split('|');//

for (int i = 0; i < sarray.Length; i++)
{
string[] sfields = sarray[i].Split(',');

if (sfields[0] != "")
{

objDetail.Add(new _detail { Id = count , modify = sfields[1].ToString(), verified = sfields[2], I});

}
}

I have problem to add fields in "objDetail" using Add method. But I am unable to access the reference field "Id" , rest of the field of detail table can be accessed using objDetail.

How can I access the "Id" field from objDetail object to add in IList.

I want to solve this problem

Invalid object error on temp table on a particular environment

Hi, I am using a temp table in my sp. I have written the following tsql before and after using the temp table. IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..##TEMP') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE tempdb..##TEMP; Data will be inserted to the temp table consecutively using a cursor. I use SELECT * INTO tempdb..##TEMP FROM EXEC('query') to fill this temp table for the first time and INSERT INTO tempdb..##TEMP(<fields>) EXEC('query') for the remaining times. The SP is working fine in my laptop, but I am getting an Invalid Object error on this temp table name in the production server. Could anyone tell me the possible causes please? Thanks Sree

Problem with listing records from table (object not found)

Hi everyone, I'm creating a website based on ASP.NET MVC 2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for the database. After creating the table in database, I want to list all records in that table. For that, I use "scaffold'ing in ASP.NET to automatically generate the view file. But I encountered an error when loading that page. The error message was: [CODE] Server Error in '/' Application. Invalid object name 'dbo.Accommodations'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Update producing invalid object name for temp table

If IWantThisDSN = 0 Then SQLString = "SELECT importparamsID, ESubmitType, Description, ImportFileName,ClientCode, Notes00, Notes01, Notes02, Notes03, Notes04 into #t0 from Importparams " Else SQLString = "SELECT importparamsID, ESubmitType, Description, ImportFileName, ClientCode, Notes00, Notes01, Notes02, Notes03, Notes04 into #t0 from Importparams " End If cn.Execute(SQLString) SQLString = "UPDATE #t0 Set Description = ' ' WHERE Description IS NULL" cn.Execute(SQLString) I'm getting the error in the last cn.Execute(SQLString) line...   Message=[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name '#t0'. I'm using VB 2010 and SQL Server 2008. This worked fine before with VB 6 and SQL Server 2000 but with the "upgrade" it's not working... If you need any more info let me know what I may have left out.  Thanks!

Can execute proc but can't see it in SSMS object explorer

I have setup a user account that has limited rights to execute certain stored procedures.  I can execute these procedures but when I login into SSMS with this user I can't see these sprocs in the object explorer list.  Is there a special permission this user needs to be able to enumerate available sprocs?

I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 x64.

Does dropping a table automatically drop its contraints and indexes?

When I have a table that has foreign key constraints and/or index and generate a delete script with Management Studio, the script explicitly drops all constraints/indexes before dropping the table.  Is this necessary?  Or does dropping a table automatically "cascade delete" all that table's constraints, indexes, etc...?

Updating a table using a variable object

I have a variable of Data Type 'Object'. I populate this with 1 row of data via an Execute SQL Task control,  because I have a For Each Loop Container around this Execute SQL task control that gets 1 ID at a time. What I want to do is now that I have the row of data in my variable object, is update my table with the new data.

I am thinking I need to start with a Data Flow Task? But I'm not sure how/what to use to reference my variable so that I can map it to my destination.

Simple query on a table just hangs ...

We have a table that contains parameters for our DW jobs. I can do a "SELECT *" from this table which works fine. However, when we right click and view the "Top n" rows, the interface just hangs with a message "Executing Query. Waiting for response from data source". We have run a DBCC CHECKTABLE command on that table and it ran fine. Any ideas what the issue may be? We have even restarted the SQL Server (2008) and to no effect. We use the "Top n" interface to easily update parameters to run our jobs. Appreciate any help / feedback.

Updating multiple Indexes on a table - Performance issue

Hi

I have a performance issue when trying to update a table with multiple indexes. The table itself has about 280 million rows. The selection of the records is fast, about 160 ms, as it has a suitable non-clustered index. However the update itself takes over 10 minutes.

When I look at the excution plan, it shows the update to the clustered index as well 5 other non clustered index which are being affected by the statement. Unfortunately it doesn't show me how those indexes are being accessed. I suspect that the update statement is performing a full index scan against each of the non-clustered indexes in order to do the update.

So my question is this, if i add the key columns of the other non-clustered indexes as included columns on the index used to select the records for update will sqlserver use them to access the additional non-clustered indexes?

any advice greatly appreciated

Conan

2 dimensional table with indexing by string(object)

Hey!

I've got a problem i need to create 2 dimensional table which will be indexed by string for example:

table["London","Cambridge"] = 120;

or jagged:

table["London"]["Cambridge"] = 120;

How to declare Collection or array that can handle this?

I found solution but im not sure it is the best.

Dictionary<string, Dictionary<string, int>> test = new Dictionary<string, Dictionary<string, int>>();

But  when i wanna create a new value i need to initialize new dictionary, so why i thing that solution is not the rightest:

table.Add("London", new Dictionary<string, int> {{"Cambridge",120}});

So how in the best way create 2 dimensional array indexed by string (mayby create new class that can handle this)?

SSMS Table designer does not script index filters

Hi,

In SQL Server Mgt Studio (SSMS 10.50.1600.1, SQL 10.50.1600), under the table designer, when a table has a filtered index on it, if the modification does need to rebuild the table, the filter is missing on the index.

To reproduce the bug:

Insufficient Permissions to alter table in SSMS Design View, can run ALTER Table successfully

Hello, are the permissions in the object explorer in management studio different for a login than what can be run in a query window for the same login? I have a developer I gave ddladmin so he can create/modify tables. He can open the table in design view in object explorer (gets a warning about possible insufficient permissions when he opens) but when he tries to add a column it fails with a permissions error. He scripted off the change and ran it in a query window, which worked fine. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

?? SSMS "Object Explorer Details" Can't Find Constraints ??

Hi everyone,

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2.

As you know, using the "Object Explorer Details" window (pressing F7) you can see details related to the item selected in "Object Explorer". For example, (assuming you have Northwind installed), select the Northwind database in "Object Explorer" and press F7.

Now, in the "Search" bar at the top of the"Object Explorer Window", let's search for the "DF_Orders_Frieght" constraint defined in the "Orders" table. Just type, "DF_Orders_Freight" in the Search box and press Enter. For some reason, SSMS cannot find the constraint, or any constraint, for that matter. There seems to be a similar problem is searching for column names.

The Search box is certainly a nice feature but why doesn't it find column names or constraint names? It's especially annoying when a constraint fails and we need to find out where that constraint is defined.

Thanks much
