SQL Server Management Stduio 10.0 (SSMS) Window Menu Listing Open Windows

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

In SSMS for 2008 the windows menu listing of open files is inconsistent.

When only windows that have previously been saved to a file are opened the Window menus lists as follows:
File Name - Connection (Username(spid)) - This is perfect since the file name is at the front and it's easy to identify a window

However, when an unsaved window is open (typically named SQLQueryX.sql) along with these saved windows the Window menu lists as follows:
File Name - Connection (Username(spid)) - Only for the first (active) window
C:\...\Connection (Username(spid)) - For remaining windows - this is annoying since we can't easily identify the windows by file name

SQL Server 2008 Management Studio - Summary Windows.

I am using SQL Server 2008 (10.0.1600), now came across an issue to display Summary Windows but unfortunately found that F7 (Keyboard shortcut to display summary window) is not working and even Summary windows is not available in View Menu of SQL Server Management Studio. Maybe it’s a minor issue but I failed to find solution. Thanks (in advance) for the help.

Windows 7 window.open() and - target issue

In Windows 7 when I use window.open(url, "_MyWindow") a new browser window opens every time I click.

Expected behaviour is - URL is replaced in the browser window with the same target attribute (_MyWindow) if it's already open.

Any suggestion/workaround is greatly appreciated.

All works fine in any other OS/IE config, even on XP/IE8.

same issue appears using <a href=http://www.microsoft.com target="_MyWindow">Open link</a>

Windows Server 2008 R2 - "Open in Windows Explorer" only works in special cases

I am running SharePoint 2007 off a Windows 2008 R2 server and it seems to be running fine.

We're using another Windows 2008 R2 server for clients to login to (using remote desktop) and connect to the SharePoint site. However, whenever a client tries to use the "Open in Windows Explorer"-feature when handling documents, nothing happens. I have run through all the posts here and checked that all services, webdav modules, etc. are as they should be.

I found a fix recently, but it does not make a lot of sense. If I go directly to the site after logging in, it does not work (as expected). However, if I type in the direct path to the documents folder, \\sitename\cases, it opens just fine and if I open a new browser AFTER that, the "Open in Windows Explorer" feature now works perfectly fine.

Is there some way to fix this behavior other than adding a "net use" command to all startup scripts for all the users? It seems like I'm circumventing the problem rather than fixing it.

EDIT: We disabled UNC paths (because of security issues on the client server), but even if we tells you the path is disallowed, simply typing it in triggers the function to work (and still gives you access through SharePoint). Very odd.

On Day 4 of Trying To Install Sql Server Management Console 2008 on Windows 7

I had Sql Server 2005 installed and tried to get Sql Server Management Console Installed.  It looked like I needed to upgrade to Sql Server 2008 to do that, so I did.  Sql Server 2008 Sp2 actually. I had hoped it would come with the Management Console, but when it didn't I downloaded Management Console Express 2008, and tried to install it.  It said I needed to update my non-existent install of Visual Studio 2008.  I uninstalled it before installing Visual Studio 2010.  So, I found a program that would remove all traces of installed programs, ran it, rebooted, and tried again.  Still suggested I upgrade my non-existent Visual Studio 2008.  So, to make it happy I decided to install the minimal version of Visual Studio 2008, and then upgrade it.  It's not compatible with Windows 7.  Therefore, Management Console 2008 is incompatible with Windows 7.  Right?  Am I missing something?  I have searched the net for 4 days trying every suggestion, and every link posted to some version of management studio in hopes of finding something that would work, but so far, no luck.  I haven't even found anyone with the exact problem I have, which really worries me.

?? Window Authentication, Remote Server management Studio ??

Hello all,

I have  SS 2008 running on machine A. It is using Windows Authentication.

On machine B is another instance of SS 2008. It also uses Windows Authentication.

I have separate Windows accounts on both machines. The local user accounts on each machine are different, but of course I know the username passwords for both accounts. These machines are not on a domain.

From machine B, I would like to use Management Studio to log into a database on machine A using Windows Authentication.

Here's what I do:

On machine B I open Management Studio. The "Connect to Server" window opens and has the "Authentication" option set to "Windows Authentication", which is good. Now, I want to specify the User Name and Password for the local account on machine A. The "User Name" and "Password" fields, however, are disabled. Even though I know the username/password for the machine A instance, I cannot enter them. Why are these fields disabled? I want to be able to administer the machine A instance from machine B's Management Studio.

As a follow up question, what protocols need to be active on machine A in order for me to connect from machine B? I know TCP/IP should work. What about Named Pipes?

Can anyone offer help?
