Using Ref as an increasing primary key value

Hi. I need to set the Ref value as an increasing value starting with the number 2010 ... it will be a 12 digits characters.

I tried using identity but it doesn't work. Could anyone advice on how should one could insert an increment of 10 to the ref value? In case, my explaination is not clear, below is an example.

For an example:

Record 1: ref - 201000000123

Record 2: ref - 201000000133

Record 3: ref - 201000000143

....

Thanks!

Reduce memory consumption

Hi, I'm trying to reduce the memory consumption of a large scale system. The system is based on thousands of DLLs. I'm trying to understand what actions can I take regarding the large amount of DLLs in order to reduce the memory consumption. One thought I had in mind is merging DLLs in order to minimize the meta-data stored in memory. What do you think? any other ideas? Thanks.Lior

!!How can I create an increasing rate column

Here's the situation. Now I have a month group and a year group. And if I choose 2009 and 2010 two years, it will be like this: Month                  1                        2                          3                             4 Year            2009 | 2010         2009 | 2010           2009 | 2010             2009 | 2010 Count          ....    | .....           ........ I want to add a rate column after each month, and display the increasing rate  like :sum(count) on 2010.1/sum(count) on 2009.1+sum(count) on 2010.1 So how can I do this? Thanks!

Select increasing number

Hi,

I need to create a select statement in which one of the columns is a running count starting from a number of my choosing. So like this:

Col1 Col2 Num
Row  Row  1
Row  Row  2
Row  Row  3
Row  Row  4
How can I do that without using variables or a loop etc?

Edit: What I mean is something similar to IDENTITY-function without having to use it with INTO.

How to derive actual physical memory consumption by a process?

Hello,

I am doing performance analysis of SSRS reports (2008).

Before doing anything, I check in Task Manager(Performance tab) and see that my overall physical memory which is 8GB, is already divided between available memory and system cache. I have also setup perfmon counters and logging data for available memory counter.

Now when I launch a huge report with 2 million records, it starts consuming the available memory and I notice in Task Manager(Performance tab) the available memory is reducing BUT I also notice that the system cache is also reducing (I assume that perhaps OS is borrowing memory from system cache to put it in available memory?) If my assumption is correct, then I would not be able to calculate how much physical memory my report used because it also includes a portion of system cache(?)

OR is the system cache reducing due to disk I/O?

This is getting confusing for me, please help me out experts.

Regards.

DMV to report CPU consumption

Hi

Is there a DMV that report to total CPU time consumed by all SQL sessions (maybe even just user sessions)?
I am looking for total CPU consumption similar to what dm_os_wait_stats gives for wait events.

I know that I can query dm_exec_query_stats but not all queries are cached.

This info is critical  so I am sure there is an easy way to get it from one of the DMVs (I know that I can get it using profiler). In Oracle it is on the top of the AWR report …

Thanks in advance

Memory consumption comparison between WCF x Remoting on Host

Dear sirs,

I did a small winform host application to register a simple service (Hello Word) 500 times on Remoting and on WCF.

I noticed that WCF consumes much more memory than Remoting just to host the services. About 150 times over .

I´m just talking the necessary memory to run the following commands:

- [WCF] ServiceHost.Open   versus  [Remoting] RemotingConfiguration.RegisterWellKnownServiceType

I´m not talking about message, client x server communication...

Here is my sample application results summary:

-WCF Service - GC Memory (gcMemoryEnd - gcMemoryStart) : 9691 KBytes

-Remoting Service - GC Memory (gcMemoryEnd - gcMemoryStart) :61 KBytes

I can send to you my sample application. Just ask me. (mrctito@hotmail.com)

You can download from [http://cid-063f615d2720e2bf.office.live.com/self.aspx/P%c3%bablico/MemoryConsumptionComparisonWCFversusRemoting.zip] too.

I would be very glad for any help.

Thank you.

memory usage (consumption) of individual controls on a web form shown in a browser

Hi

Is there a way to check the memory usage (consumption) of individual controls on a web form shown in a browser. Like Repeater Control, Multiline Text box etc. The reason is I am putting the repeater control in session and checking the status of controls, based on which I am doing further actions.

Thanks

is it normal? sqlserv page faults keep increasing on 24GB sql server

win2003 R2 x64 bit, sql 2005 std x64, total physical ram 24G, but sqlserv only use 4,891MB, and page faults keeps increasing, it is normal? why won't it get more memory for the pool to reduce the page faults?

WPF Memory consumption on scroll

Hi,

I have a listview in the UI, to which each item is loaded on Page Up and Page Down events.

I use Listview1.items.Clear before I add a new item or the next item in the ListView using listview1.items.Add(obj1)

Although, I am clearing the listviewitems before adding a new one, the memory keeps increasing on Page Up and Page Down actions. I have also set Isvirtualizing = true on the Listview and there is no much process involved in fetching the next listviewitem except it contains around 10 RichTexboxes and TextBoxes.

Please let me know as what to do to fix the problem.

Thanks.

Change color (dynamically) according to increasing value(number)

Hello, I have a question on how to go about a really simple problem.

Imagine you have a label with some random text like "$25000". Which is databound to a double value for example: Price.

Now what I want is that the color of that label, the Foreground, changes very slightly more red when Price is incremented with like 1.  So I want 25002 slighty redder than 25001. How do you calculate a color based on a double value, or how do you make a Converter for this?

I have no idea where to start

IIS memory increasing for each client request in asmx web service

A customer reported that our asmx web service is continually increasing in memory (mem usage as well as private bytes).  We are able to reproduce the problem in our lab with Windows 2003 Server SP2 (fully patched) on some of the machines.  The customer is using Windows 2008.

We created a Hello World web service targeting the 2.0 framework built under VS2005 SP1 and a test client that continues to call it.  The memory increases steadily - approximately 40K per client request.  If the test app is paused, the memory remains the same.  When it is closed, the memory drops.  Explicit calling of GC.Collect does not drop the memory.

We have run the memory profiler on the service and the leak is all native memory.  We have uninstalled/re-installed the Framework on one of the machines but no difference.  To our knowledge all of the security and IIS settings are not modified.  We have compared app pool, default web site and virtual directory properties to  machines that have no problem and they are identical.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions?

WCF Test Client - increasing MaxReceivedMessageSize

Hi,

I am using the WCF Test Client that ships with Visual Studio 2010 to test my WCF service.  However, i am getting the error" The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded" after using the WCF Test Client utility to invoke a method on my service.

I know how to configure a service to increase MaxReceivedMessageSize by configuring a binding configuration, but how can i increase the MaxReceivedMessageSize of the WCF Test Client itself that ships with VS2010?

Thanks for any help
