Upgrading content databases from 2007 to 2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all

So I'm doing the database attach upgrade method, which involves building a new SharePoint 2010 environment on new servers and then migrating the content databases over to the new SQL server and attaching the databases to the new farm.  I've followed all steps in the Microsoft guides (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263026.aspx).  I'm at the point where I'm ready to attach the databases to the new farm.  As the guide recommends, I used the Test-SPContentDatabase cmdlet to see if there was anything missing from the farm that is required by the content.  Here's the error it's spitting out:

PS C:\> Test-SPContentDatabase -Name SharePoint_WSSContent -WebApplication https://url

Category        : MissingSetupFile
Error           : True
UpgradeBlocking : False
Message         : File [Features\ExcelServerSite\Microsoft.Office.Excel.WebUI.dwp] is referenced [3] times in the database [SharePoint_WSSContent], but is not installed on the current farm.  Please install any feature/solution which contains this file.
Remedy          : One or more setup files are referenced in the database [SharePoint_WS

Custom Content Types Missing after 2007 Upgrade to 2010

Hello everyone -

We have a portal solution leveraging custom publishing content types and page layouts in 2007. The database was backed up, and the upgrade was done via dbattach on a 2010 environment. The site works seemingly fine - though there is some strange behavior we noticed where a few content types are missing.

The Content Type Gallery lists only say 10 of the 15 content types we should have. Loading the Master Page and Page Layout Gallery we see the inheriting content type, though clicking on it yields in an error as though it cannot find the content type. These are all custom content types, though they are not very different from each other.

Has anyone experienced this problem and devised a solution? - I tried to iterate through the site collection via a console application to see if I could somehow update or intercept the issue with the missing content types to no avail. I'll be open to suggestions / tools recommended...

All the best,

Alex

SharePoint 2007-2010 content upgrade, Summary Links web part closed after upgrade.

Has anyone seen this before?

Did a DB content upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to 2010.  After the content upgrade (with only a warning saying that an unknown 3rd party web part was missing), we reviewed the new site, and found MANY pages which contained Summary Links web parts suddenly had many (but not ALL) of the Summary Links web parts now marked as closed.  At first we thought the parts were missing from the page, but when we edit the page we see the parts are in the Closed gallery.  We can add the part back in from the Closed gallery and all it's originally set properties are there.  Why are they coming up as Closed after the upgrade when they weren't Closed BEFORE the upgrade?

More details:

We have quite a few pages that contain one or more Summary Links web parts.  On SOME of the pages, one or more of these web parts are now Closed.  However, not ALL of the pages that contain these parts have the parts closed, and on the pages that now have these closed parts, not ALL of the Summary Links parts on that page are Closed, so it is not a problem with an unregistered Summary Links web part as the part is working on the same and other pages (I found other people on the web mentioning issues where NONE of their Summary Links parts are working after an upgrade.)  So, it seems to be somewhat random as to which instance

Will my customization on SharePoint 2007 be retained after upgrading my solution to SharePoint 2010

I have implemented lot of custom features, branding , themes for my custom sharepoint solution. I have also included lot of file system changes in 12 hives.

We are running into an issue when we attach the database with the main portal site collection which has the publishing features enabled. Content Types in MOSS 2007

In this article I will try to describe the one of the best feature in Microsoft office Share Point 2007 called Content Types.

Content types are simply collection of contents. Each content in a Content type can have different settings.Basically it is a reusable collection of settings which you want to apply to a particular category of contents.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

WSS 3.0 Content Type with Office 2007

We're currently encoutering an issue on our production servers with Office 2007 documents. In essence, the Content Type for all docx, xslx, and pptx documents cannot be changed away from the site default on all newly created sites.

I've even done some step by step debugging on an SPItem insert and I can set the content type to a custom type, but it reverts back to the site's default Content Type on Update(). Other file types - .doc, .xls, .tif, .txt, and .jpg - have all been tested, and all work as expected (the Content Type changes correctly).

Thanks in advance!

Sharepoint 2007 and Excel 2010 features

Does Sharepoint 2007 Server support the new Excel 2010 feaures like slicers? Or do i have to have Sharepoint 2010 to get that working (considering all other components besides Sharepoint 2010 are available in my Sharepoint 2007 environment) ?

- Thanks
