Excel Services Application - Trusted locations problem in SharePoint Office Excel Web App

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Just deployed Office Web Apps to our SharePoint 2010 environment. This environment was upgraded from a fresh deployment of SharePoint 2007 SP2. Configured all of the Application Services per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx, but I cannot open an Excel workbook, receiving the error: "This workbook cannot be opened because it is not stored in an Excel Services Application trusted location. To create an Excel Services Application trusted location, contact your system administrator."

Our farm has a single front end server and a single database server. The shared application pool is called SSP1_v14 (renamed during the upgrade from SSP1?). Our existing site had its visual style upgraded during the conversion. An in-place upgrade had been performed.

I went to Central Administration > Excel Services Application > Trusted File Locations and the default entry for address http://, Location Type: Microsoft SharePoint Foundation, Trust Children had already been created. Various blog posts on the internet indicate that this entry is all that's needed to setup a trusted location for all SharePoint sites, but it's not working here. I've tested Word document viewing with the Word Web App and that works fine.

Any ideas?

Excel Services XLSX shows different results when accessed via Sharepoint UX vs REST

I have an Excel services report that connects to Project Server 2010 data via an ODC.  Looks great when I view the XLSX through the browser via the Sharepoint doc library; everything refreshes, no warnings, all is good.    But when I access this same file via the Excel Services REST call: https://myserver/_vti_bin/ExcelRest.aspx/ProjectBICenter/My%20Reports/Initiative%20Status%20Report.xlsx/model/PivotTables('InitiativeStatusSummary')?$format=html I get an older version of the report -- not refreshed with the latest data.   I have the file set to "refresh data when opening the file" in the data connectioon properties.     What am I missing?

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Sharepoint 2010 Excel Services Extranet Access

Hi to all,
I've an environment that includes 3 machines: the sp2010 frontend (W2K8 R2), the sp2010 backend (SQL2008 R2), the analysis services backend (SQL2008 R2).

I've successfully setup my environment with Kerberos constrained delegation and the entire thing works fine with both performancepoint and excel services (the requirement was to pass the user's domain identity to the analysis backend): thanks to the excellent SP2010 Kerberos Guide.

Now I've extended this portal to the Extranet zone, assigned it a new host header and upgraded my SPNs to include the new fqdn and also added it to the necessary accounts in Active Directory.

In the intranet environment everything is fine. I've published the Sharepoint site to the external network onto the ISA 2006 and setup the Kerberos constrained delegation from the isa computer account to the Sharepoint SPN.

So here is the point: I can correctly access the Sharepoint site from external with Kerberos authentication, performancepoint is fine but I cannot open excel workbooks from this zone, I already trusted both the file and the data connection locations with the external fqdn but still no luck. Even the sample workbook does not open. The error is "error while trying to execute the requested action. Retry".

Anyone has any hint on the possible causes?

Thanks in

Consume SharePoint List in Excel Services

I found some older questions regarding this but they are all listed in the Pre-SharePoint 2010 forums. I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to more easily pull data from a SharePoint List (more specifically a set of related lists) into Excel Services such that data refresh is handled as well.

I found a couple topics that used UDF as solutions to this problem, but I am not sure if they will handle data refresh. These solutions are discussed in: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointexcel/thread/79f5c968-b68f-4d53-bfe0-d57258cfed6c and http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointexcel/thread/16f9255d-cd06-4687-ab8e-68bd6210d0f8

I am hoping the 2010 version of Excel Services can handle this more simply, thanks!
