How to make window based site accessible from outside

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We are using MOSS 2007. We have created window based site and extended it to use SQL-Form based Authentication so that users can access it from outside. Now we have a requirement to use the Active Directory Authentication and test the application from outside. Our Alternate Access Mapping settings are as below:

Internal URL                                  Zone                                         Public URL for Zone

http://server01                             Default                                        http://server01

http://server01:12345                 &n

How to make my SharePoint 2010 site accessible from internet?

I have a sharepoint site on a production server here "http://servername:10500/sites/mysite" which accepts AD accounts - I'd need to make this accessible from internet; how could I do that?

Our admin has mapped our "http://subdomain.company.net" in DNS to point to the above url but I'm getting the following error message:

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

In SharePoint central administration of the "http://servername:10500" web application, I have added an internal url of "http://subdomain.company.net" for Internet Zone; not sure if I should have done that?

what else do I have to do?

Many thanks.

Go Global: Designing Your ASP-based Web Site to Support Globalization

If you have a Web site for your business, you already have an international presence. But how can you make sure users in any country can access your site effectively? The Trigeminal Software site at http://www.trigeminal.com has pages localized into up to 48 languages and allows users to see pages in the language of their choice. This article describes how the site was implemented and how issues such as whether the site should use frames and what character set to choose for multibyte languages were dealt with. Which database to use for storing dynamic content, whether to use static or dynamic pages, and how to implement localized solutions on both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 is also discussed.

Programmatically creating a SharePoint Site based on user input

I am working on developing a “Create Website Wizard” for SharePoint 2007 that would do the following (I am simplifying a little for the sake of this post):

1.      Take user input as follows:

Product Code:

Category (I, II, III):

The category will be a choice field (radio buttons or a dropdown)

how do I make each site collection have its own separate FQDN URL?

Howdy. We've got SP2010 up and running just fine but now we'd like for each site collection to have its own FQDN URL that's publicly accessible. We've already bought a wildcard cert and have it answering on port 443. Example: https://intranet.example.com -> https://sp2010.example.com/sites/intranet https://projects.example.com -> https://sp2010.example.com/sites/projects https://my.example.com -> https://sp2010.example.com/my Again, each URL on the right already works but we'd like the FQDN on the left to map to the URL on the right. I searched this forum for "multiple site collections",  "multiple FQDNs" and a couple others but got nothing :( Thanks, -Jeff

Can not init SPSite for claims based authenticated site

Hi, trying to write a simple console application i was not able to init a claims based authenticated site with API nor with the Managed Client OM. Opening a site with only windows authentication is working. Running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and SP 2010 server and logged in as the buildin Administrator account. Administrator is Site Collection Admin. static void Main(string[] args) {     ClientContext context = new ClientContext("http://mypc:300");     Web web = context.Web;     context.Load(web);     context.ExecuteQuery();     ... } throws "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.". Setting credentials for the context is also not working. or same problem with     static void Main(string[] args) {     using (SPSite spSite = new SPSite("http://mypc:300"))     {         ... throwing FileNotFound-Error. Any idea? Greetings Peter

Sharepoint site collections accessible only by system account

I I have setup a VM to start palying with SP development, everything running under administrator (sql, sharepoint services....). After succefully creating the root on port 80 and a couple of site collections, whenever I shoot IE http://mymoss or any othe site collection, I go right away to the web site without the usual authentification dialog box. On the right jand side, I see I am logged in as "System account". When I try to "sign in as a different user", enter domain\administrator, who is owner, the dialog box just keeps coming back and I can not log. . Thanks in advance

Determine whether HWND is WPF-based window or native one

Dear all The application I'm working on is targeted to share a window image. Given an HWND of a window, we use two approaches to capture it on Vista: native approach for native type of window - using BitBlt function, and Direct3D approach for WPF/Direct3D window which uses hardware for renderring. The question is, how to determing if a HWND is regular (so can be captured well with BitBlt) or is WPF-based or Direct3D-based, so Direct3D approach is needed to capture it. Is there a method to determin, which type of window the given HWND is? Regards, Marc

Setting up Visual Studio with a cloud based SharePoint site

I have a SharePoint site on the cloud where I access it through a URL like this one; https://exampleemeamicrosoftonlinecom-1.sharepoint.emea.microsoftonline.com I can also edit the site with SharePoint Designer by pointing to the same URL. I'm at the stage in the project where I want to do some specific things so I am going to use Visual Studio, but I don't know how to set up Visual Studio with a cloud based SharePoint site? When I go to add a SharePoint site I get the following error; A SharePoint server is not installed on this computer. A SharePoint server must be installed to work with SharePoint projects. I also tried to add the URL as a server in Visual Studio but I get the error; Server name "https://exampleemeamicrosoftonlinecom-1.sharepoint.emea.microsoftonline.com" could not be found. Make sure the server name is correct. I have SharePoint Designer working with the SharePoint site, why won't Visual Studio work?

SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authentication - anonymous site is prompting for CBA auth when opening

Hi, I have CBA setup successfully on my sites.  One site is setup for anonymous access and I have disabled "client integration" on that web application. I have a list of MS Office documents on a wiki.  When I click on one I am asked to either save or open or cancel.  Saving works fine but when I choose open, it launches the associated MS Office app.  I am then prompted for a login from CBA.  I can click cancel and the logon screen appears again.  After clicking cancel the 2nd time the document appears in the MS Office app, Word in this case. My question is how do I prevent my users from being prompted for a CBA login when clicking on these files and opening them in the native app on their machine?      --TR

SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authenticaton site working but search is broken

Hi, I have SP 2010 sucessfully installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2.  I created local machine accounts for the following: MACHINE\mssqlservice MACHINE\sp_admin MACHINE\sp_search MACHINE\sp_farms I have setup 2 sites with public facing internet access as well as local sites. I have CBA working properly on both sites from both public and private access. My problem is that when I go to search, I am constantly redirected to an error page. I have checked all SP services on the server and they are all running as MACHINE\mssqlservice That account has proper access to all sites as well as all DB's. My search is crawling and I get one error from a long named PDF file in my site, which is OK.   My questions is if my CBA is working fine and my search is crawling, why I am not getting a results page when I search from the sites:   Here is the error I get:   Error Internal server error exception:   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 5a03b730-42c2-48c9-a220-3b9d052481de Date and Time: 9/9/2010 4:45:07 PM   I am kind of stuck at this point and am not sure how to proceed.  Any help would be appreciated.        --TR

How to create Asynchronous website-make the site work faster?

Hi,I developed an ASP.NET 3.5 website to read a few XML files generated by a third party software and convert them to a single Excel Book. The entire process takes more than 1 HOUR and even before completing the entire work, the system comes back with a message like - "Page cannot be displayed" and it fails. So, I am planning to make this website an Asynchronous site (I think if I make this site asynchronous it will work faster and will not stop execution before completing - new ideas are welcome.) I am new to this concept. Can anyone help me with some examples of how to convert a normal website to Asynchronous website? At present my site has 3 tiers and the reading of XML pages and writing them into Excel are happening in the Data Access Layer. Thanks

Changed to claims based authentication, now I can't access my site. Please help! Time is of the ess

I am in a pretty big bind. I have a sharepoint 2010 site, that was using classic windows authentication. It worked fine from the inside, and I was able to extend it to the outside and it was using https with an SSL certificate. However, my performancepoint reports and my external lists weren't working when the site was accessed from the outside. Apparently this is a known issue with using classic authentication on the outside, so I tried to switch over to claims based authentication. I followed this guide: http://blogs.technet.com/b/wbaer/ar...point-2010.aspx I obviously changed the contoso stuff to my domain name, and changed all of the config files. The problem is, now I can't access the site at all from the inside or the outside. Here is the error I get in my logs: code: An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: Could not connect to [url]http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/actas.[/url] TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it . My Sharepoint Central Administration site gives me this warning: code: The Security Token Service is not issuing tokens. The service could be malfunctioning or in a bad state. Remedy Administrator should try to restart the Security Token Service on the boxes where it is not issuing tokens. If problem persists, f
