Retaining Data on Partially Filled Out Forms

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi All,

I have a question.  Is there a way for a user to partially fill out a form and not commit it to the database, leave the page and come back to it and the information that the user filled out is still there?  Any help or comments will be appreciated.

Using Session to pass data between forms

In my app, I am displaying an Rss Feed, I have a button that takes the user to another form where they can select a them.  Upon selecting the theme, they are taken back to the original form.

If the user has selected which theme they want to view then they click on the button to change theme, I need to pass the information about what rss feed they were viewing through session so that once they select the theme they want they are redirected back to the main page and the rss feed they were viewing should still be displayed.

Since I've already bound the data to the xmlDataSource and DataList I am trying the following:

Session.Add("CurrentRssFeed", XmlDataSource1.DataFile);

Session.Add("CurrentDataList", DataList1);

I'm not sure I am passing the data over correctly and I'm not sure how to specify it in the page_preinit.

Any ideas???

Writing Data to database with jQuery Forms, ASMX Webservice, & JSON - help!

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to submit data from a jQuery form to a ASMX webservice? I have gotten everything on the form ready to be submitted to the database and now I am stuck on how to send it over using $.ajax(). Everything I have read tells me how to get data from a webservice and display it with jQuery, but not the other direction nor how to access the json data within the within the webservice service(similar to a Request.Form approach with ASP.NET forms).

In other words:

1. What do I need to do to my webservice to make sure it can receive data from the jQuery form.

2. What do I need to do in jQuery to receive an acknowledgement the save on the server side was successful.

I can explain more if need be, but if there is a comprehensive tutorial on not only reading, but also WRITING data with jQuery, JSON, etc. I would love to get pointed in that direction.

IE 8 partially cut of my JSON data return from WCF service

Hi All, I am not so sure here is the right place to post my issue. I am using ExtJS treepanel and ajax call to wcf webservice and return JSON array. My service return array. If array count is less than 2, then IE partially cut of my JSON data return from WCF service. But FireFox is working fine with same JSON format string. Very interesting thing is that I try to debug with Fildder. so I have to put "." dot in my url "http://localhost{.}:1234/ then It is working fine.   I am testing with IE8. Here is the JSON format return from FF and FireBug. {"result":[{"href":"..\/EMP\/EmployeeSearch.aspx","iconCls":"","id":"8c362443-7bb3-427e-910c-87b391c6abf5","leaf":true,"text":"Employees"}]} Here is the corrupted JSON string retrun from IE using developer tool. {"result":[{"href":"..\/EMP\/E" [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "GetSiteMap", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped, RequestFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] [return: MessageParameter(Name = "result")] List<TreeView> GetSiteMap(string node);

External Lists and Infopath forms issue with Secondary Data Sources

I've followed this tutorial for creating and customising forms for external data (http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2010/03/11/customize-an-external-list-form-in-infopath-2010.aspx).  The only difference being that my seconday data source is not an XML file (I've tried database connection and existing sharepoint lists both internal and external) When running the design checker I get the message "Additional Data connections not supported" and my form won't publish.  Any ideas?

import data from infopath xml forms to SharePoint list

Hi. I have this issue, a customer has an old application that consists of a SharePoint 2003 site and a 'forms library' with forms listing information about physical servers. The infopath (2003) form is pretty straight forward and has a few dropdowns from lists and so on. Now, we need to move this to 2010 and preferably to a list only using oob functionality. I would like to know if anyone has a clue as to how I can get the data from the hundreds of xml files into a list, could be to excel and then to SharePoint, or any means Necessary. I would prefer it if it can be scripted or done using standard tools from Microsoft, no 3rd party custom xml importer...(if it's not really good and free :-) ) ThanksThomas BalkestÃ¥hl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

WCF Data Service as Forms Auth ASP Auth Source

I was wondering if it is possible to use a WCF Dataservice as the MemberShipProvider for a forms auth application. I have written code for a provider (below), but I do not know what to do as far as a connection string, or any other web.config properties. Please Help!!! Here is the code for my provider, anytime it says Odbc that is because I based this off of the custom Odbc provider on the msdn site. The only ACTUAL references to any odbc connection are in the comments:

InfoPath Forms Services has detected a mismatch between the user's data in the browser and on the s

Hi All,

I am getting following error message in my SharePoint Logs,

InfoPath Forms Services has detected a mismatch between the user's data in the browser and on the server. This may indicate the SESSION_STATE_PASCAL_CASED is not configured properly on a multiple front end farm or that a malicious user is trying to tamper with client data.

Any idea how to solve this issue ?

How can I read data from the Forms Authentication Cookie

I am using Forms Authentication to secure a site. I am using the "user defined data area" to store an account number. I am then encrypting the ticket.

string hash = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(ticket);
HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, hash);

How can I read the "user data" in the cookie? Thanks for the help!

Testing InfoPath Forms with Rules using GetCommonMemberships Data Connection

I have my first InfoPath form coming up for testing. This uses a GetCommonMemberships data connection as a condition for various rules (for example, form load rules that switch views when the user is a member of a Packaging AD group). I’m not a member of any of the AD groups being used for these conditions and neither are the company’s QAs.

Because I’m not a member of any of the groups, I tend to set my rule up in reverse to check it. For example, if I have a rule where the DisplayName is equal to “domain\Packaging” (of which I am not a member), the control is not disabled for me. This assumes that the opposite is also true if I change the rule to is not equal to “domain\Packaging”. In other words, the control should not be disabled for members of that group but it should be for me.

How do you guys allow your QAs to impersonate different team members to properly test this without compromising the integrity of the form?

Question on retaining workflow data after upgrading to SP 2010

After upgrading from SP 2007 to SP 2010, will the workflow data be retained? I mean, if there are any workflows that are started but are yet to be completed, will there be any issues with those after upgrade? I tried finding about this in the Internet, but couldn't find any.

How do you pass data between forms in Visual C++?

How to remove data connections dependancy from infopath forms?

Hi All,

In my Infopath forms there are hard coded data connections.

For example GetUserProfileByName data connection has url http://site_url:port/_vti_bin//UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL. Every time I want to publish the form to different site url, port, I have to modify such data connections. Is there any way to remove this dependacy or make it configurable from some central location.

Binding data on instanced forms?

I have a small 'rolodex' program that opens a form for each person in my database at runtime (each person is a row in the db). I have that part working (thanks to some help from the lovely people here!), but I have a new problem. I am no longer able to edit the information in the textboxes on the forms that have been populated by the database... After doing some research, I realize that I'm failing to bind the data in the instanced forms to its row in the database. After a week of reading and trying different examples all over the net, I'm still stuck.

My question is: How do I instance new forms (childforms) and bind each form to its proper row in the database so that I can edit the contents of the textboxes and have those changes saved in the database?

I'm using VisualStudio 2010 and .Net 4 on a Win7 64 machine.  The code is written in C#.

My database is called PeopleDatabase.sdf
The table is called PeopleTable
Form1 is the 'environment' for the program - all Peoplebox appear inside of it at runtime.
Peoplebox is the form that shows the data queried from the database. It has 3 textboxes on it that need to be bound to the same row in the database. A different Peoplebox appears for each row in the database.
