SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 - installation issues

I'm receiving an error 11055 while trying to install SP3.  I've tracked the problem down to probably being the one described here , but unfortunately cannot follow the steps described there to resolve the problem as the tool they require has apparently been removed because it can damage installations.  Does anyone know another way of fixing this issue?

Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. Silent installation of SQL Express 2005 SP3 (English) on localized European Windows Systems fails wi

Dear Colleagues,

We deliver C++ med. application with several prerequisites, including SQL Express 2005 SP3. All installations are flawless but!

The problematic installation is on German\French systems (this far it was Windows 7 32-bit, but I would expect it to fail on all flavors of supported Windows, including 64-bit, Vista etc).

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express - installation on Windows Server 2008

Hi,

We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.

At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum.

Has anybody had similar experiences? If so, how was it solved?

Cheers,

D

SQL Server Express 2008 vista x64 installation rpc problem

Hi Folks,

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Express in a brand new workstation with Vista Business x64 and I am keep on getting this error:

"The following error has ocurred: The RPC server is unavailable..."

At the same time this alert message is displayed:

"Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now"

After a while (~1 minute) the computer reboots, but I am not able to log on as usual. I have to reboot manually the computer in "safe mode" first.

Trying to reduce the problem I reinstalled the OS and only run the recommended Windows updates. Other than that the computer is in the absolute initial state. (The firewall is not the problem since I already tried it after disabling it)

Any clue !!!!!

Thanks
