Page - View State

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am confused about the View state in ASP.NET application. I was trying out something on a Web page, my observation was that the value which i entered on the text field on my ASP.NET web page persists after post back.

My assumption was that by default the EnableViewState is turned off for any web page. I put in the code Page.EnableViewState = False.

But still the value of the text entered in the text field persists after post back. Why is this?

Thanks in advance

Truly Understanding View State

This article provides a detailed understanding of the ViewState.

view state vs request parameters

If  the view state is the data entered into the form fields then they are supposed to be available in the request parameters or request body. Then why would we need view state for?

WebDev.WebServer.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close when trying to view page in browser

Hi, whenever I load an aspx page in vwde2008, I get the message in the subject of this post.  After I click Ok on that, I get a dialog box, Unable to Connect to the ASP.Net development center.  What can I do to troubleshoot?

I am using Windows XP SP3, vwde2008 with SP1, on a HP desktop.  Also using Office 2003 if that is relevant at all.

Thanks, Justin

View State Encryption

Hi All,

Why is it that I see the same hash value generated when I use different algorithms for viewstate encryption. I have added below lines to the web.config file

<pages viewstateEncryptionMode="Always"

Crystal Report Asking for Database Authentication each time when I view Page.

Whenever I open my Crystal Report page, I am taken to the Database Authentication page where I am asked for

User name
Data Name

each time.

Is there a way to avoid this and I save these authentication in my page once.

I am using VS2005, C#.

Any Help will be appriciated.

Security Briefs: View State Security

Effectively managing user state in web applications can be a tricky balancing act of performance, scalability, maintainability and security. The security consideration is especially evident when you're managing user state stored on the client. Here's what you need to know about view state security.

Bugslayer: Measuring the Impact of View State

Bloated view state can be a real performance bottleneck for your Web app, but it can be difficult to diagnose. John Robbins creates a handy tool that records and reports the view state size for pages in your ASP.NET applications.

ASP.NET 2.0: Speed Up Your Site with the Improved View State in ASP.NET 2.0

View state is a wonderful thing. It allows the ASP.NET developer to maintain state for server-side controls that are not form elements.Used judiciously, it can improve the user experience. But in the wrong hands, it can cause your pages to grind to a halt. The release of ASP.NET 2.0 will include a variety of improvements to view state that will make it easier to use and less likely to slow performance.

Cutting Edge: The ASP.NET View State

In ASP. NET pages, the view state represents the state of the page when it was last processed on the server. It's used to build a call context and retain values across two successive requests for the same page.

Add page numbers for paging in data view web part

Hello all,

Has anyone found a solution that will allow me to have page numbers for paging in a data view web part. For instance, if I have 40 items/rows and I set the paging to display 10 items, I'd like the paging to show 1 2 3 4 rather than showing 1-10 and having to click next over and over to get to a specific item.

I found this article, but it is for 2003 and doesn't seem to apply to 2007 or if it does I am not able to really figure out how.

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Page View Count And Users Online

Hello forum I have a couple of questions.  How do I go about tracking the number page views for my web page in a sql table?  Secondly, how do I track the number of users currently online? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maintain Controls State on Master Page.

I have Web Application which uses the Logged In User (Authenticated User) to query his Profile Data from Adabas/Unix using OLEDB. The application provides the user with about 21 different pages (Basic Info, Employment Info, Education, Dependants, Financial Info ...). The web application has a master page, and each profile data page is based on a User Control loaded in the Child ASPX Page. Since we are migrating our legacy applications from Adabas/Unix to SAP, the development Team has prepared web services to query for the same Profile Data from SAP using Web Services. Now, we have to modify the web application to consume the web services instead of using OLEDB to query Adabas. Since we are in the testing phase, and we have only very limited data in SAP, I have to provide temporary control to allow test query the Staff Profile for a Specified User (instead of the Authenticated User) and to select the Source: 1. SAP, or 2. Adabas.   So I am thinking to add the following "Control Section" in the Master Page:<div runat="server" id="divSAPTest" class="SAPTest"> <span>Test SAP Web Services. Enter Staff ID: </span> <asp:TextBox ID="txtSAPStaffID" runat="server" Width="60px"></asp:TextBox> <span>From: </span> <asp:DropDo
