I have an application that performs an automated install of Sql Server Express to many different machines, then restores a database into the new installation.
On a few of these, we've started seeing a problem where the restore throws an 1802 error "can't create database (access denied)". We're trying to restore the DB into the directory "\program files\<application install dir>". If we manually
change the SQL service account from "network service " to "local system", the error goes away.
I have two questions. One is why the default network account wouldn't have rights to this directory. That wouldn't surprise me on Vista, but some of the machines involved are XP. Can someone direct me to a resource I can read more about
Question #2 is how do I change the default SS Express install to use the local system account? Do I just uncomment out the following line in Template.ini ?
Are there any other ramifications to doing this?
