According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb773175(VS.85).aspx
) and many other sites, in order to get MessageBox, OpenFileDialog, etc to use controls with visual styles enabled, an application manifest file needs to be used to tell the application to use version 6 of ComCtl32.dll.
In an effort to do this, I've got a WPF application which is set up to use a custom manifest file. However, when I add the requisite snippet to the .manifest file:
