I have a situation that is making me crazy !! I have a content type that inherits from Document set. I have set some fields (metadata) in the document set and configured the document
set to share it with documents inside it.
All the fields are being shared (inherited) to the documents inside the document set except for the lookup fields
I have 2 lookup fields that looks for information from a SharePoint list.
I'm using SharePoint 2010.

Hi there, we are creating custom content types that inherit from the "Page" content type. We have found that we must have the "Inherits" property set to "TRUE" or else our custom content types do not show up in the content type gallery. If we
query the site collection using management shell the content type does appear to be there, but unfortunately it will not publish from the content type hub. If we set Interits=TRUE the content type deploys properly and appears in the content type
gallery, but we cannot override (change the display name) or remove any of the inherited fields. Ultimately, we would like to have our content types inherit from "Page" and also override some of the "Page" fields, but this does not appear
to be possible. We have spent quite a bit of time on this issue and are wondering if this is a bug or intential behavior of the "Page" content type. Any information you can provide would be appreciated?
P.S. We have ran similar tests inheriting from "Document" and "Item" content types and do not encounter the same issue with overriding inherited fields.
We're using WSS 3.0SP2 with a Document Library that has document-level columns (fields) added. The columns (fields) are defined as single-line text; nothing fancy. In SharePoint we can set the field values no problem. When we pull the documents back out
of SharePoint to the file systsem, and look at the Custom Fields, the values are unreadable gibberish. They look like graphics lines and boxes and the Type is set to Unknown.
Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?
I have a requirement to populate sharepoint form field value with query string while uploading document to document library.
While uploading the document to document library, I want to populate claim number available from query string in a pop up page i.e in my case EditForm.aspx, Located at

I have a situation that has foxed me!! I have a site level content type that has 8 fields... I use this to create more content types at the site level and use these in multiple Document Libraries (I have 40 doc libs). This works fine for 38 of
the libraries. But for 2 of them... 2 of the columns are not showing up on the document libraries. These are user lookups fields. I am not sure why it's not working in these libraries only! When I use the same content type in another
library... the inheritance does not break for these fields!
Anyone please provide some guidance on this? I am using WSS 3.0 and SPD to do workflows.
On another note... the content type has a template (in excel) attached to it. When I create the content manually using the content type from the New menu option, the template is used... however, when I try to add it using an SPD workflow, it creates
a blank template... the content type template is not being used.
Please help... I am in a fix and need to release this application today!!!
We recently upgraded everyone to Office 2010, but we are still using MOSS 2007. Since the Office upgrade, I am getting numerous reports of problems with the 'required fields' of any document be editing (or newly created) when users try to save it back to
These documents are throwing error messages indicating that some required properties 'are missing or invalid'. However all the needed info is indeed there. Even existing documents (that already have the field data in place) are giving the message when a
save (or save as) is attempted. However, if the user saves a copy of the document locally and then manually uploads it via the SharePoint UI, it works fine. It appears to only come up when they use an Office app for editing and try to save it directly back
to the server from the app. This process worked fine with Office 2007.
This only started when the Office 2010 upgrades were rolled out, and (as far as I know) no changes were made to SP at all. I have never seen this phenomenon before, so I would greatly appreciate any advice and/or education on this. :)
I´m using SharePoint 2010s Search Service to get items from a list. In the list I have managed metadata field for Item. When I search on Item "Item 1 & 2" I get xml that is incorrect. SharePoint does not escape the &. (The mapping is correct
so when I search on an item not containg & it returns correct xml.)
But if I in my description field writes "A description & some more text" then & is escaped.
Anyone seen this before? Is there some way to configure the search service to escape forbidden signs to return none broken xml?
Connected SQL data table to SP 2010 ECT from SQL table. The SQL table has several fields that have a type of "numeric(3,0)". The SP 2010 list shows all fields form SQL. When we open up InfoPath Designer and reference the SP List data (from
SQL) all of our numer fields are missing from the available fields list.
I amd going to try another data type but that hardly feels like a solution. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
I want to capture the event when user click on document in document library. Please let me know how to capture this event in SharePoint 2010?
One of our custom SharePoint Designer workflow activities, which have always worked fine in SharePoint 2007, fails to validate.
This appears to happen when a Workflow Activity that contains a StringBuilder field also contains a lookup variable.
<FieldBind Field="CustomCode" Text="this code" Id="1" DesignerType="StringBuilder" />
For example when we store the following in this StringBuilder field
"Today's date = [%Current Item:Transaction Date%]"
This field returns 'null' in the ActivityValidator. As a result we cannot validate its contents.
I am in process of Developing a Custom Field for Rating control. Requirements are below.
1) This field will be used for Creating survey
2) It will be called Rating control with Attribute ( some enhancement over out of box rating control)
3) Respondent will rate each attribute for 1 question like
I need suggestion on How to save data for above Requirements. I have designed control and it works fine. Only thing I need help on How to and Where to Save data related to answer?
Thanks in Advance
Hey Every body
I have a very strange problem. Our Company has a Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 solution running as our company Intranet solution.
We have a solution where outside users, can gain access to a workspace site on Sharepoint where diffrent people can work together on projects that involves both out side users and internal staff.
We have a folder called shares documents here we can upload documents that we want the other memebers off this workspace too see.
The problem is that internal staff can open up Word documents directly, but the external users are not able to open up directly these Word documents. Word just sayes that that is is unabel to open up the word document.
But when the users download the documents instead it works fine.
I have tries with both offcie 2003 and office 2007 and the problem is the same. But if i try to open up these documens via Open Office the problem due not exits, then is works fine. Why does Microsoft Word have these problems?
And is it just when the external users are opening up the documents directly from the sahred Documens folder that we have this problem.
The external users are connecting to our Citrix Netscaller security solution for authenticating purpoes first, after they have been validated through this solution, they ar
I'm creating a number of edit forms for external lists in Sharepoint Designer. We're using Foundation so these are just the standard forms, not Infopath forms.
Basically I've cretaed the external lists and forms and have been deploying these using a Visual Studio solution. In the forms I have replaced all the generated sharepoint form controls with asp text boxes or Drop Down Lists and have given these
meaningful IDs so it's easier when hooking them up to asp validators. This worked for the first deploy but now when i edit the form (for example to change a text box to a Drop Down List) I get errors which seem to relate to the field names generated
by Sharepoint Designer. It has generated databind statements which try to bind fields ids already in use elsewhere on the form.
The error message is
Error while executing web part: System.Xml.Xsl.XslTransformException: An error occurred during a call to extension function 'DataBind'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error. ---> System.ArgumentException: Item has already been added.
Key in dictionary: 'ff15_1' Key being added: 'ff15_1'
Can anyone explain why it's generating these duplicate references?
I have an external list which contains a DateTime field. For the display I have added an additional string field to the BDC Entity , so i can display the date in whatever format is required. But i still need the actual date field so a Date picker
is rendered on the edit form. How can I display the string field on the generated Display Form and the date field on the Edit Form.
I have tried adding the following to the field declaration (in the List schema) for the string field so that it's only shown on view forms, but that didn't work.
Am i missing something, or is this yet another 'feature' of external lists which looks like it should work but doesn't?
I know i could create custom iew and Edit Forms manually t
I have a document library and document set is added as one of the content types. The user goes inside the document set and inside the document set, I have 2 different content types. Now my scenario is that, one of the content types - which is referred as
Main Report should not be used twice. I mean, within the document set, only one document of Main Report content type should exist. How can we do this?
I've read 1 article and already tested it, and it works for me to connect reporting services with SharePoint List
But my concern now with the same approach how can i connect to SharePoint Document Library (Shared Documents)
I've 1 shared document link, inside there we store all the pdf image that we scan. and each image created we define field/attribute at Edit Properties. Meaning we just not store the pdf image but also information input.
I've contact the owner of blog for long time but no response. Please advise Thanks in advanced.
Im using : SharePoint 2007, SQL 2005 & Visual Studio 2005
