Sharepoint Search Server Express 2008 can not index external domain fileshare with valid account

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Since i have understood that sharepoint 2008 search express doesn't do any security trimming i am trying to index an external fileshare (on a non trusted domain) with it. After authenticating with the external domain account I can manually access all the files in that share i need to. Sharepoint 2008 search express somehow is unable to use the crawl rule in which i specified a different content access account (which is the external domain account). It continuously gives the error "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content."

Exactly the same configuration works fine with sharepoint search server 2010, but that does do security trimming and because of the share being completely external my users could't see any search results.

Any suggestions?

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express returns no search results for non-admin users

This is going to sound crazy, but anyway... bare with me... I have a SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express (RTM) installed with a crawl account (call it sharepoint_crawl) which has full read permission to an entire site collection of 100,000 documents. I have logged in with this account to make sure it has read access to everything, and it does. I run a full crawl of all documents and allow it to finish. If I try and search the content for an extremely common term (i.e. 50,000+ hits) I get no results. However, if I log in with a site collection admin I do get search results. There are no indexing errors or query errors in either log files or event log. Everything looks like it is working correctly - just no results for non-admins Anyone tripped on this? I have recreated the crawl account and perform a full re-index with the same results. What gets me is that the crawl account does have read permission to the content it is indexing, the content is indexed correctly, but the crawl account cannot get results back. It is as if security-trimming is removing everything. Any ideas?

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express

I have Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express installed. The Sharepoint was an upgrade from WSS v3 and search server express 2003.

After the upgrade whenever users search from the main site I get web part errors displayed on the search page. I think because it is trying to use the old search server express which is no longer installed.

Search Server Express 2010 is now installed and a Search Center web page can be viewed however when searching via the entire sites I site the web page with web part errors.

Any thoughts or any further information you require I can provide.

Enable Full Text Index in VWD 2008 / SQL Server Express 2008

Hi, I am using VWD 2008 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express. I want to enable full text index in some of my table. How do I do that? I only have  SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008. As far as I know, I cannot use SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008 to update the full text catalog according to : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365247.aspx

My tables are also not enable Full Text Search by default.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Edit 1: Someone had a similar problem to mine on this link: http://forums.asp.net/t/1169961.aspx
I installed the Sql Server 2008 Express with Advance Services and made sure that Full Text functionality is installed. However I don't get a full text menu in SQL Server Management Studio.

Edit 2: I uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services but still couldn't be able to enable full text index.

Edit 3: After see this, I guess I have to do it manually then:  http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?siteid=1&PostID=3912985

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

Can I get some clarification on a couple of points?

Firstly, what is the recommended installation path for SPFoundation and Search Server Express on the same server.  Do I just install SSE 2010?  Or SPF 2010 and then SSE 2010?

Secondly, when the two are installed together how do I add the a SSE 2010 search center link to my SPF 2010 site so I can search all crawled content?  I've created crawls of Exchange public folders and file shares but when I use the built-in site search box it's only returning content crawled from the local site and not anything from the other crawls.

Error Installing SQL Server 2008 Express: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission

I have tried installing SQL Server 2008 multiple times on my machine, and I always receive this error about 3/4 of the way through: '' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.

I have tried installing both SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools and SQL Server 2008 with Advanced Services, and they both fail the same way. I am trying to do a new stand-alone installation.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Looking into the error, some forums say I have to install it from THE Administrator account, and not an account with administrator permissions; it also cannot be in Safe Mode, because then the Windows Installer won't work. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to login to the Administrator account. I can go to the home login screen, do ctrl+alt+del twice, and attempt to login to the Administrator account, but I receive this error: Unable to Log You on because of an Account Restriction.

Other forums say that in the Server Configuration section, all you have to do is provide the username and a strong password from an administrative account on the computer, and it doesn't have to be THE Administrator. Well, I did that, but for some reason it doesn't recognize my username and passw

SharePoint 2010 Foundation - Standalone - SQL Server Express 2008 R2 - Moving databases to another d

Setting up a new install who will be using SharePoint Foundation 2010 in Standalone mode. They do not have SQL SERVER 2008 so need to utilize the Standalone option and the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2. They are just getting started with SharePoint and it is unknown how much the technology will be embraced to afford to purchase SQL Server at this point. I wanted to get that explanation out of the way before everyone tells me the best practice of installing in Farm mode only! I realize the best practice but sometimes we have to roll with the punches because getting a client to begin using SharePoint on their current budget is better than never getting the chance to use it at all.

So SharePoint Foundation 2010 is installed with the default SQL Server 2008 R2 Express instance. Is there a procedure for moving the databases to a new drive? What is the default instance name that is created? I'm having a hard time locating that information in the documentation. I've done this before with WSS 3.0 without issue but wondered if there were any documents on moving the newest databases and what the default instance name is. Thank you in advance.

Integrating Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

I've been searching for ways to do this but I haven't come up with anything.  Surely this is a very common need/want.  Basically I want to use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 but I would like to run Search Server Express in the same installation.  Additionally instead of going to a dedicated search page and then searching, I'd like to add the Search Server Express search functionality as a Web Part to the Sharepoint Foundation home page.  Is there any documented procedures to this?  If not how have you done it?

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation vs Search Server 2010 Express

Does Search Server 2010 Express include Sharepoint Foundation? Or do I need to install Sharepoint first and then install Search Server on top? This is for a brand new install on a single server.

Reporting services and Sharepoint Foundation 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced S

is possible use reporting services in Sharepoint Foundation 2010 if I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services? I tried various settings and configurations, but it not works (I am not able successfully configure Reporting Services Integration in Central Administration).

Now I am not sure that is possible use reporting services in SPF 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services...

Thank you!

SharePoint Foundation - Search Server Express 2010 "upgrade" ?

I have an existing install of SP2010 Foundation. Can I just install Search Server Express 2010 on the WFE server and connect it to the existing farm? Or can I "upgrade" SP2010 Foundation to Search Server Express 2010?

How do I view Full-text search catalogs in SQL Server 2008 Express?

I've installed SQL Server 2008 express with advanced services on my Vista Home Premium, and have enabled Full-text search.

"SELECT fulltextserviceproperty('IsFulltextInstalled');" returns 1, and using CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG mycatalog I was able to create my Full-text search catalog. I was then able to create full-text indexes on my DB columns, and even search through them.

However, there is no &

Ingest google Search Index into Sharepoint 2007

Hi Folks

I am wondering  if there is a way to ingest google search index into SharePoint index such that when people search via SharePoint they see the Google results too… incorporated/federated inline with the SP results (not as a separate "box" ).

We have Google search in our environment and also share-point search. Share-point search for sharepoint site but Google search is for all other environments. Now i am thinking if we ingest the Google search index into share-point then may be its great deal to provide user a platform to search everything on one place.

Office Sharepoint Server Search not working but Windows Server Search is.

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.
