i dont know the default userID and password for SQLauthentication. As the express setup did not asked any credentials while installing SQL components

VS2010 Deploying Database Project - Error: Cannot create file [...]MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\m

I had SQL Express from a previous installation of VS2010. I uninstalled All SQL and VS2010 and re-installed VS2010 (without Express) and then re-installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition. Including an SQL Express Database File in a Setup Project

I'm building a win app using VS 2008 in C# using an SQL Express 2005 DB.  What is the best way to include a SQL DB in a setup project.  Does the SQL need to have a .dbo or .mdf extension?  I'm new to SQL Server Express.

Can't connect to local database file .mdf using SQL Server Authentication?

Using  - Visual Studio 2005 Professional, SQL Server 2005 Express, WinForms App

Problem - I am unable to connect to SQL Server local Database file (.mdf) through  SQL Server Authentication.

Description -

I am addding a SQL Database file (local) in the c# winapp solution by right-click -> add new item -> SQL database file.

It adds the file, starts a wizard to create datasets and tableAdapters. Dataset files (.xsd) are created in solution. In the Data Connection pane along ToolBox we can see Database1.mdf.

When i right click on databse1.mdf -> Modify Connection.

It shows a form with Test Connection option. The connection gets tested for Windows Auth. But for SQL Server Auth it shows following error message -

When User Instance = True

Error 1 "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated sonnection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed"

When i set User Instance = False it shows this message -

Error 2 "An Attemp to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Doc&Sett\Admin\MyDocs\VS2005\Projects\SamApp\SamApp\Database1.mdf failed. A database with the same name

Updating sql express 2008 database table from an XML file.

I'll start off with the usual caveats.. new to the forum, new to programming, not a programmer by trade..just a dabbler

A little background..

I run a hockey pool for me and a few friends. I currently use Excel to produce everything. Every week I download a csv file from a stats reseller, update my pool, then run some macros to create web pages and upload those to my site. It works alright but I want to take my pool/site to the next level. So I decided to do a new site using ASP.NET and sql express.

My plan is to download an XML file from the same reseller and update my "Player" table every week with the "new" stats.

I used a Dataset, SqlDataAdapter, and the XML file from the reseller to populate my "Player" table in the beginning. It was pretty slick, pretty easy. My problem is I can't seem to figure out how to update my "Player" table with my new stats.

First I tried using the same Dataset/SqlAdapter but it threw a Primary Key exception, saying I couldn't insert that ID because it was already existing in the table. I can fill my dataset from the "Player" table change things and save it back to the "Player" table..but that's not what I want to do.

In my min

Does this look correct for saving a file/ new record to a database

So thank you for all your help so far, So I think i got this right,
but would like for you all to look it over to see if there is any
areas I might run into trouble with:

the form:
<h2> Add Media to this pattern</h2>

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. Right click our...(read more)

=User!UserID from windows authentication using table from another database

i'm using sql server 2005, sql server business intelligence development studio for my reports and deploy them in my wss3.0 site.

what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to restrict wich users can see specific data within a report.

now, the thing is. the report gets the data out of my DB1 database and my windows authenticated user are in the WSS_content database.

when i deploy my report in my wss3 site. it gets the user that is loged in. but of course it does not display any data because the tables are not in the same database.

does someone knows how to do this?

Forms Authentication Add SQL Database Variable

I am using Forms Based Authentication I have extended the Forms Authentication Tables creating a custom table called Profile_Contact that holds the user's GUID, username, email address, and other information. I have another table called Profile_Account which holds company account information such as Company Name, address info, phone numbers etc. This table has a Key Field called IDProfileAccount. I include the IDProfileAccount field in the ProfileContact user table so I can associate the user with a specific Company. For the login page, I am using a basic login page created with using the Visual Studio login controls. When the user logs in, they are sent to the appropriate page as identified by the role the user has been given. This all works great. Now I need to extend the login page so that when the user logs in not only is the user's name and GUID placed in session, I would also like to have the IDProfileAccount record placed in session as well so that I can filter the records the user sees as only those records of the Company the user is associated with. I know how to add static variable to a session and how to retrieve them to filter data, what I need to know is how to retrieve the data from the SQL table on login and sending it to the session. I would think it would be something along these lines:Partial Class login Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Logi
