System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.

Hi everyone! I’m getting this error when starting up the workflow:

System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.
Parameter name: workflowType

The code I’m using is shown below:

using (var wf = new WorkflowRuntime())
  wf.WorkflowCompleted += (_, __) => signal.Set();
  wf.WorkflowTerminated += (_, __) => signal.Set();
  var args = new Dictionary<stringobject>();
  args.Add("Input", plainText);
  var inst = wf.CreateWorkflow(typeof (HtmlTypography), args

Passing parameters of type List<> from a web application to the Receive activity of a workflow servi

I have a Recieve activity with the following parameters in the Content property.  Using generic parameter names here:

- parameter1 of type Object1 assigned to Parameter1 variable

- parameter2 of type List<Object2> assigned to Parameter2 variable.  Note - default value of Parameter2 variable = New List(Of Object2)()

- parameter3 of type Object3 assigned to Parameter3 variable

In my web application, I create a service reference and create a client as such:

SomeWFServiceClient client = null

 client = new
 List<Object2> listOfObject2 = new
 List<Object2> { new
 Object2 {Id=1, Name="SomeName"
, Type="Customer"
 }, };

client.ProcessSomething(Object1, listOfObject2, Object3);

I have a breakpoint at the Receive activity.  When I look at the values that get assigned to the Receive activity parameters, I see that parameter1 and parameter3 ge

SharePoint Desinger is throwing error when trying to create a workflow in a site

Lately may be from only couple of days we are experiencing this issue. When we are trying to create a workflow on any SharePoint Site, or when I try to open an previously created workflow in SP designer, it is throwing me this error:

'The Server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service Provider or Web Server Administrator to make sure that the server has FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Services installed'.

I was able to open or create workflows without any issue before and also there were no major changes done on that server lately.Please help me in fixing this.

"Cannot create unknown type" error when invoking a dynamic activity

I am trying to use WF 4 to create business rule policy activities that I can store as XAML files and execute dynamically so the rules can be changed without recompiling.  I have created an ExecuteActivityFromXAML activity that takes the path to the XAML file and a dictionary of inputs and loads a dynamic activity from the XAML and then uses workflow invoker to invoke the activity passing in the input parameter dictionary.  In another assembly, I have created rule executor activites that wrap each of the xaml rule activities and build the input parameter dictionary and specify the XAML file path.  For example, I have a parent-child object with three rule activities stored as xaml files on disk (they are in my project with a build action of "None") -  ValidateParent, ValidateChildren, and ValidateChild.  I then have 3 activities compiled into my assembly that build the input parameter collection and use the common ExecuteActivityFromXAML activity to invoke the 3 XAML files - ExecuteValidateParent, ExecuteValidateChildren, ExecuteValidateChild.  The ValidateChildren activity is supposed to validate rules on the collection and then loop through each child object and call ValidateChild.  I can call ExecuteValidateParent with no error if it does not reference the other activities, but when I try callt he ExecuteVal

Error: Workflow Custom Activity

I have a custom activity, which is available under Designer Actions.
I can see and set parameters. However on the Finish step, I encounter following error:

Error opening Office Open XML file when using SD workflow to create item in document library.

I have a Sharepoint document library that is using a word template with xml mapping (Word-Sharepoint).

I have a workflow created in Sharepoint designer that Creates an item in this document library with select data from a form library on the same site.

It appears to create the entry in the document library correctly, it is showing the copied data from the form library and the correct default data in the columns specific to the document library. The explorer view shows the filename.docx files.

I am able to edit the data using the datasheet view, however it will not open the word document.

The error message reads "The Office Open file <filename> cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents." If I click on the details button it states "No error detail available".

Any ideas?

Workflow for External Content Type (Associated List) Gives Error

Hello Community.

Background: I have created an external content type, and then an external list from the content type.  Next I created a custom list with the same metadata fields as the external list.  All this works as it should with no issues.  Finally  created a simple 1 step workflow that is designed to update the external list with the data provided in the custom list.

Problem: When I run the workflow I get the error below:

The workflow could not update the item in the external data source. Make sure the user has permissions to access the external data source and update items. Unknown error

Has anyone seen this before and if so how did you resolve it?

Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on VS workflow designer

Referring to the post below. It seems that the current VS workflow designer only support "Activity" type as a root document. Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on next release of WF?

SQL Tracking Service XAML only (Type, Workflow and Activity db tables)

Ok, we've implemented workflow completely into our system now and I've starting to see the tracking database grow fairly quickly, which was expected

I am now working on a purge routine and or partitioning.

What I have noticed is that the Workflow and Type db tables will constantly grow no matter what.  They are not considered "partitioned" tables.

My main question is the architectural decision around this XAML only approach of tracking versus the code behind\beside approach.  I have a hypothesis I will present below.

In code behind\beside.

How to create WSP or Package for workflow in Share Point 2007?

I am working on SharePoint 2007. I have created 2 List called "Config List" (this is a list) and "Vacation Form" (this is form library & form designed in infopath). I have also created a workflow on form library "Vacation Form" in Share Point Designer 2007.

With the use of this workflow I am creating some task and updating "Vacation Form".

Now I want to deploy these three thing (Config List, Vacation Form & workflow) on other server.

How do I create a package or WSP file to install these things on different server.

Nintex Workflow Error: No workflows are waiting for a BizTalk message [...] No processing has been d

I created a Workflow with Nintex Workflow 2007 (on SharePoint 2007) to send/receive data to BizTalk 2009. It worked fine already. But now I get the following error mesage in the EventViewer:

Nintex Workflow; Build: 11000 (http://ls457/_layouts/nintexworkflow/BiztalkHandler.ashx)
No workflows are waiting for a BizTalk message with message Id of 'GeneralAccessRequest_2010-08-23T15_00_04_44961212B370C554EDFAC41C1201ED6CEFB' on teamsite http://ls457/sites/testapp. No processing has been done.

What could that mean? Any ideas? I definitely changed nothing on the orchestration or BizTalk administration. The BizTalk action sends the data correctly to it's destination (database), but it seems that nintex doesn't receive any return data. I don't think it's a BizTalk problem, because in the BizTalk Message Tracking Database the Message is listet, so it has been sent correctly by BizTalk. But the handler probably has problems to find/receive this message.

Kind regards,

InfoPath form checked out so 'on create' workflow not being started

Hi all,

I have found a couple of threads asking for advice on how to check in an InfoPath form when it’s saved or submitted to a forms library. The reason for doing this is so a workflow can start based on a new item being created in that library, and so it doesn’t just sit there with a “Starting” status.

The answers I have found contradict each other:

·         You have to do it with a workflow.  This can be done easily with SharePoint Designer if that's an option for you. Source:

How to Cancel a Workflow Activity - LogToHistoryListActivity

How can I cancel a LogToHistoryListActivity? I don't understand how to get access to the ActivityExecutionContext. I guess one way is to add an IfElse before entry to avoid the activity completely. Casting the sender object does not work. Help anyone?

  private void logToHistoryListActivity_WorkflowActivated_MethodInvoking(object sender, EventArgs e)
   LogToHistoryListActivity log = (LogToHistoryListActivity)sender;
   string msg = string.Format("Work Request has been SAVED by {0}. Awaiting submittal.", workflowProperties.Originator);
   WFHelper.LogMessageToHistoryList(log, msg, null);
