trouble displaying data from selected item in listbox

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 13, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a asp.net web form in which I display registered customers in a listbox. In the listbox I can choose one customer, and click a "Show data"-button. That should display all registered data about the chosen customer in textboxes next to the listbox. This doesn't work and I haven't been able to find where the error lies. Instead of displaiyng the data in the textboxes the error message in:  LabelNoCustomerChosen is displayed. Could it be that the program doesn't find the customer ID? The string that is displayed in the listbox looks like this:

ID Lastname, Firstname

Here's my "Show data"-button click:

protected void ButtonCustData_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

        string Firstname;
        string Lastname;
        string Street;
        string No;
        int Zip;
        string City;
        string Email;
        string Phone;

        if (ListBoxSearchCust.SelectedItem == null)
            LabelNoCustomerChosen.Visible = tru

Dynamically (on client side) populating data control (repeater) when dropdown item is selected

Hello!I'm currently working on a project and I want to make as much things as possible performing on client side - with as little loading as possible.The project consist of three "main" pages. On one page I use jQuery DataTable plugin which is working great. One page has tabs (using jQuery). I want to put datacontrol (repeater) on this site and when  user selects one item in dropdown, data in repeater loads on client side, without performing the action on server.I wonder if this is possible and if somebody can give me some case to help with?Thanks!I hope I was clear enough. all the best

How can I make the listbox scroll to the selected item

Hi All, I have a textbox that searches the listbox below it and selects the text that I types in the textbox. Now although the item is selected in the listbox I have to scroll to the end to see if the item is selected ornot IS there a way that I can make the list box scroll to the selected item?

auto-scrolling to the selected item in a listbox

I have a listbox which is populated with items at Page_Load and has 5 items visible at a time.  Then there is a textbox where the user types some characters. On keyup event of the textbox  my code searches the listbox for the entered value and selects the item closest to the entered value. However the selected item appears as the 5th item in the listbox. I want it to be the 1st item displayed.

Any ideas ??

The selected item in my listbox is always the previous item

It's easier if you see the code but I'll give you the specific problem. My listbox is set to contain a grid format and each listboxitem has a ListBoxItem.PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event. The problem is, the selected item is always set to the previous item.

Here is what happens in steps:

1. My image loads up

2. I click a button to generate a grid overlay of 32x32 cells over the image, each a listboxitem in a cell of that overlay

3. I click on a cell

4. OnSelected method fires (each listboxitem is tied to this handler through the ListBoxItem.PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event)

5. The SelectedItem is null when I click on cell (0,0)

6. If I click on cell (0,1), the ListBoxItem.PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event fires but now the SelectedItem is set to the object in the previous cell (0,0) instead of (0,1). Then, clicking on (0,0) will show the SelectedItem as being (0,1) and so on.

7. Repeat for any other cell.

C# data bound combobox: display selected item text in separate label.content

I am new to C# but I'm resisting the urge to run screaming back to VB.NET. I'm working with a WPF application using C# code-behind and a lot of binding to a SQL 2005 database backend.

GOAL: I have a comboBox bound to a tbl_Systems entity which provides a list of systems for user selection. When the User selects a system from the comboBox I want to display the selection's text in a separate Label. The big picture is that several comboBox selections will be used to build a query string that will populate a listbox. So, I want to display these selected values in the Label so the user can see the query string they have dictated.

PROBLEM: When I set the Label content property to the comboBox SelectedItem property the entity tbl_System is displayed in the Label not the comboBox selection text.

SUSPICION: From reading similar examples in VB I suspect that the comboBox SelectedItem is actually a "datarowview" or the C# equivalent. But I don't know how to translate this explanation to C#.

The UI XAML comboBox properties are set as such:

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!

Displaying Data using ASP.NET 2.0 Repeater and C#

This tutorial will show you how to display data using the .NET Repeater Control, ASP.NET 2.0 and C#.NET

The Repeater control is a powerful tool and is easy to use.

First, you will need to import the System.Data.SqlClient namespace.

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
                // Html Encode the cells

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

Persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control

Hi All,

I am trying to persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control. Here are the details

I have a user control which contains a a listBox and button. On Page_Load of user control I am populating the ListBox control with some values. On Click of button, I am trying to fetch the values which I have selected in ListBox. Though this seems very simple and straight forward I am unable to fetch values.

My Page_Load Function

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

My Click Function

Protected Void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

       string strValue = listBox.SelectedValue

I have placed brake point at Page_Load and on click function, I am seeing that the moment the breakpoin

How to keep the hover for Parent menu and set the selected menu item css for child menu item?

I'm using cssfriendly control adapter for menu. My asp.net menu control's datasource is a sitemap file I'm using which contains all the urls.

I have the following questions:

  1. Is there a way to keep the parent menu item hovered while hovering over the respective child menu items?
  2. Is there a way to keep the child menu item selected? I am able to set the css for the parent menu, however I was wondering if the same is possible with the child items.

Please help! Smile

ASP.NET 4.0 Menu Top Level selected item style

I want to apply a css class to the level 1 menu item (parent) when it or any or it's children are selected.

I've looked at MSDN documentation and any number of examples and walkthroughs but I haven't come up with a way of managing this. I was thinking something like this might work but the style is not being applied to the parent. To further complicate matters, if I try to apply a css style to StaticSelectedStyle it doesn't pick it up at all.

Menu Markup:

<StaticSelectedStyle  Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="#3333CC" />

Code Behind:

        protected void MenuItemClick_NavMenu(Object sender, MenuEventArgs e)

            MenuItem parentItem = e.Item.Parent;

            if (parentItem != null)

                parentItem.Selected = true;

Dynamically Populate a DVWP depending on selected item

I am wanting to create a dashboard page with several data view web parts which dynamically populate depending on what item is selected in a separate web part (drop down form or just a list of links).  Can someone please point me to a tutorial or documentation on how to pass data between web parts or to a DVWP?  I have searched for a few hours and not been able to find anything useful.

How do you create a custom BDC data field that allows for multiple selected values?

I need help creating a custom data field using the BDC column as a base.  We need to allow for multiple selected values instead of just a single one.  I can't find anything on the net which shows how to do this.

Data form web part not displaying - Unable to display this Web Part. ....

I am designing a data form - adding some formatting etc.  I am able to see the webpart correctly in SPD split view, but when I trying to preview it, it gives me the following error

Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.
ANy help would be welcome, I have spent a lot of time on this page and don't want to do it again.  THere are a lot of fields and it's a tedious process to move them to the correct location.  I am at my wits end, I am not sure how to debug this!!

Data binding a listbox

I'm using VS 2010 and writing a WPF application.  I have a listbox on a form that I want bound to an access database field.  In the code behind I create the usual oledb connection, command and adapter and run a query.  In debug I can see the dataset has 143 items from the database, a single column called "path".  Here's the relevant code:  oleCon.Open(); adpt.SelectCommand = oleComd; adpt.Fill(dtst,"MyTable"); MusicList.DataContext = dtst; MusicList is the listbox.  There's 143 items in the dataset.  When the form loads the listbox is empty.  Here's the xaml for the listbox: <ListBox Grid.Row="1" Height="477" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="7,6,0,0" Name="MusicList" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="310" Grid.RowSpan="2" Background="#002400" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=path, Mode=OneTime}" DataContext="{Binding}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=path}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> At least I know the data is present but why isn't it binding to the listbox? Thanks!
