I am having a little trouble getting my head around of how sql clustering is setup. What I mean by this, is the clustering set up at the windows level or at the sql level?
Where I am working we currently have two windows server 2008 x64 machines with SQL server 2005 installed. I see there is a quorum disk on the server and five virtual instances. But from what I am reading windows server 2008 had done away with the quorum
disk and instead would use a witness disk config or file share witness config setup. Anyway whatever it should be I still can't get my head around what technology out of the two should be handling the clustering.
Also apparently we have an active/active setup and we have an issue whereby instances keep failing over from one node to another. The only thing I can see is that one node can only ever see the quorum disk.
My apolagies for being such a novice in my question
Thanks in advance
