Need older version of SQL2008 Standard

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I downloaded the SQL2008 standard from the partner site, but the version number is beyond my host's version and so databases cannot be restored to his site.  How can I get a SQL2008_Standard_version 10 from the partner site?

OS: Windows7 Ultimate 64bit (Traditional Chinese HKSAR) SQL: SQL Sever2008 RC2 Standard English (either x86 or x64) I have searched for answers on the web, tried all of them and still cannot get pass. 1. manually rebuild Performance Counter Library values as suggested in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956/en-us 2. string test = string.Format ("{0,3}", CultureInfo.InstalledUICulture.Parent.LCID.ToString ("X")).Replace (" ", "0"); which shows "31748" for me, added it under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib (with values from 009) 3. C:\windows\systrem32\lodctr /r to rebuild counters.   The error just won't go. Actually, I just want to use the management studio to connect to SQL Server2008.. Is there a way to install only the management studio? I am willing to give up installing SQL Server2008 on my Windows7.   Thanks in advance.

Newbie-Can I remove older version of .NET Framework

Hey,Got different versions on my Windows XP; 1.12.0 Service Pack 22.0 SP 2 - Language Pack3.0 SP 23.0 SP 2 - Language Pack3.5 SP 11- For obvious reasons these take a lot of space, can I remove any of them and which?  2- Are they a built up or separate?  3- If I can only use the latest 3.5 SP1;  is there a language pack with it?4- I have not been able to update anything for over a year.  It keeps telling me, Windows has some new installs for me but won't download properly.  Sorry I can't tell you the specific error it gives me, but I believe it has to do with a previous version as it is related to a Service Pack 2.  Sorry I know it's vague, but it takes for ever before I get the error message.  If you can't give me any idea, I'll try it again and post more info.In the meantime I'd appreciate any help you people can give me.Sunshine

protection against older version uploads

(using SQL Server 2005) I just changed some things in my SQL server database.  This will require an update to the user program that uploads and downloads from the database, but I am starting to wonder about protecting the database against uploads from old program versions.  Theoretically everyone should be using the latest program version, but if they aren't then there is a possibility they could upload data to the database with routines that no longer should be used.  Is there a standard way to protect against out-of-date upload routines?

Upgrade SQL 2005 standard Runtime edition to SQL 2005 standard edition full version

We have a MS SQL 2005 standard edition runtime license. The SQL Server Runtime license is a license that lets an independent software vendor (ISV) embed the complete SQL Server code into a solution for use only by the ISV application. The customers of the ISV cannot use this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables. Now we want to add a new database to the SQL. We know that we have to buy a full version of SQL 2008 standard edition. But the question is: How can we add a new database to the existing SQL. Do we have to uninstall SQL runtime license and install the full version and migrate the existing databse or can we change the key and add new databases to the SQL server?

Older version of database - Baffled!

I've installed all the 3.5 cabs, pointing to the latest SqlServerCE.dll, still can't open a connectiong to a SQL Compact Database. I'm using VS 2008, I can open a SqlCE 3.0 DB but not 3.5. I keep getting

"You are trying to access an older version of a SQL Server Everywhere database. If this is a SQL Server CE 1.0 or 2.0 database, run upgrade.exe. If this is a SQL Server Everywhere 3.0 database, run Compact / Repair. [ Db version = 3505053,Requested version = 3004180,File name = ---\DB.sdf ].

I'm able to open the sdf from the device Query Analyser, just dunno, what's going on -- Any ideas would be very helpful!

Thank you,

Exception deserializing objects from older version

We have a fairly complex document structure for our application, which we are saving to disk using Binary Serialization. We came across the familiar problem, that when we incremented the version number of our application (to allow an MSI installer to upgrade it), the Deserialize method on files created with the old version no longer worked. After some research, I came up with the solution to define our own SerializationBinder, and implement a BindToType function that substututes the types. I've stuck the code for this below:

Public Overrides Function BindToType(ByVal assemblyName As String, ByVal typeName As String) As Type
Dim typeToDeserialize As Type = Nothing
Dim ThisAssembly As [Assembly] = [Assembly].GetExecutingAssembly()

  If typeName Like "MyApp*" Then
' To return the type, do this:
   AddErrorMessage("Deserializing " & typeName & " " & ThisAssembly.FullName)
   typeToDeserialize = Type.[GetType]([String].Format("{0}, {1}", typeName, ThisAssembly.FullName))
' To return the type, do this:
   AddErrorMessage("Deserializing " & typeName & " " & assemblyName)
   typeToDeserialize = Type.[GetType]([String].Format("{0}, {1}", typeName, assemblyName))
  End If
  If typeToDeserialize Is Nothing Then

Can I Feed a table variable or table-like types to my function(My SQL version 2005 Standard SP3)?

Hello All:

My question is whether I can feed a table variable to my table-valued function in SQL 2005 SP3 standard edition?

If no, can I feed a XML type to the function? I guess, probably I can feed a XML. Yet, for this case I am afraid , in the function, the XML-parsing may be costly if I stuff over 10K uniqueIdentifier data into this XML variable.

Any good idea from you ?

SQL2008 - Assembly versioning: Two versions of assembly '...'. Keep one version and drop the other

If someone has a suggestion of how to handle .NET dll assembly versions in a SQL Server 2008 database I would be very happy if you could explain how to do it.

First some background though so you'll understand the situation I'm in.

I've created a SQLCLR stored procedure in .NET with some code doning calculations in the database. Now I need to update the code according to some new business rules. Unfortunately we don't have a test environment where I can upload the code and test it until it works. Therefore I would like make the changes necessary in the code and somehow change the version number of the dll and deploy that to the database while the old dll is still used in production.

I've heard of the workaround with strong/weak assembly names but I'm wondering if there's a real versioning method around yet.

And yes I know the "easiest" way would be to create a testenvironment and ahve the normal setup with test/production servers but I still would like to know if my original idea is possible in any way.

Kind regards

BTW, how do I convert an Access database to an SQL Compact database? Thanks for helping a newbie.

ASP.NET 4.0: WebForm Routing (quick n dirty version)

One of the things we're adding in ASP.NET 4.0 is built-in support for using Routing together with WebForms. Now, I'm totally aware that this is possible to do already and that a number of people have posted ways of doing this with the Web Routing feature which shipped with ASP.NET 3.5 SP1. We're just adding some features to make it easier to do

Device detection: standard & mobile web applications

I would like to host standard web pages as well as mobile web pages on a single website/virtual directory.

Is there a simple way of sniffing out the machine type and then presenting either web or mobile application depending on the device?

Or is there a better solution other than creating separate website?

Many thanks
