Install Windows Service Error

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi to all,
I made a Windows Service that I can install fine in my developer machine (Win XP SP2 with Framework 2.0.50727.1433).
But when I want to install the same Windows Service in my production machine I;m getting this error:

   ...
Creating EventLog source WindowsServiceTest in log Application...

An exception occurred during the Install phase.
System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed.
         at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowSecurityException(ExceptionResource resource)
      .
      .
      .
Thinking that is a security/permission error, I change this to use a user that has administrative profile, then when try to install I got an error again:

   Affected parameters are:
      logtoconsole =
      showcallstack =
      i =
      logfile = D:\Test\WindowsServiceTest.InstallLog
      assemblypath = D:\Test\WindowsServiceTest.exe

An exception occurred during the Install phase.
   System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied
   at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceProcessInstaller.OpenSecurityPolicy()
   .
   .
   .

Really I don't know what to do. Any Help? or idea?
Thanks in advance.

Microsoft.NET version 3.0 Install Error: Installation failed for Windows Communication Foundation. M

Please help! I've been trying for the last day and a half to properly install Microsoft.NET version 3.5 so that I can install TurboTax and do my taxes. I was only on version 1.1. Multiple tries to upgrade to 3.5 was giving me a code 1603 error on install on "Microsoft.NET version 2.0a". I followed advice from forums here and elsewhere to uninstall and reinstall my prior versions. I also used Windows Install Cleanup before reinstalling. I keep getting to the same result when I try to go from version 2.0 to version 3.5. In my last attempt, I went all the way back to version 1.0 and installed each step up to 2.0 SP1 with (allegedly) no problems. This last time I decided to upgrade to 3.0 instead of going right to 3.5. Now I get the following error message: [04/03/10,04:07:14] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. A Google search for
"The Windows account" "does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator"
Came up with absolutely nothing.

A Google search for -2068578304 failed to find anything, which did not surprise me.

-2068578304 translates into hex as 84B40000.

A Google search for 84B40000

Comes up with a fair few different textual descriptions with the same error code, which I am wading through.

Any help would be welcome.  I am also asking my friends at Citrix.

With thanks in advance.

Solved: InstallUtil throws ArgumentOutOfRangeException when trying to install windows service.

This is just to help people troubleshoot the ArgumentOutOfRangeException problem when trying to install a windows service with installutil. It took me a good while to understand the reason of the install failure and I could not find anything about this on the web concerning this problem, so hopefully this will help others in the future so they don't waste as much time as I did.

If you get:

An exception occurred during the Install phase.
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index and length must refer to a location within the string.
Parameter name: length

Then:

1) Go to the deisgner of your ProjectInstaller
2) Select the ServiceProcessInstaller
3) Go to the properties of the ServiceProcessInstaller.
4) If you see Account property set to user, change it to LocalSystem.
5) Rebuild your project.
6) Rerun installutil YourService.exe

Then the exception should be gone and the installation successful.

Deveoping Windows Service with C++ and cannot install it

Greetings.

Sorry if i posted in wrong forum.

I am developing my first windows service with C++. I made a new windows service project, added some references in stdafix.h, some code in OnStart and OnEnd and compiled it.

Then i've ran Earthshaker.exe -Install (obviously Earthsaker being the service project name)

It said alot of stuff (in russian, no use posting here) that can be summarised that service was installed and fixated successfully.

But i cannot see this service in the list of services! I cannot turn it on thus i cannot debug it.

I tried to run Earthshaker.exe -Install -u and then Earthshaker.exe -Install again, it said it uninstalled, then it said it installed, yet again, nothing changed! Nothing! Service isnt there and i cannot turn it on and make it work.

Install a wcf as a windows service and copy files from a network location

Hi,

I need to intall a WCF as a windows service. In side this WCF , I need to copy files from a network location to the local machine and run them.

I tried to give a specific user account ( which has access to the shared location)for the windows service processinstaller and install the service. but this account cant host the WCF since it does not have admin rights.

Is there a way to host the WCF using local account.. and then to access network location in side the wcf using a specific account. ( impersenation??/ )

Thanks in advance.

TCP Error Code 10060 when attempting to access WCF Service hosted by WIndows Service from client run

Hello all,

We have a Framework 3.5 WCF Service which is in turn hosted in a Windows Service using Net.Tcp Binding. SvcUtil is used to generate the proxy which is used instead of a service reference in the client code. We are also using Tcp Port Sharing. The endpoint address is net.tcp://HostMachineName/MyServicePath. The service logs to the Event log and everything works perfectly on the same machine.

When attempting to run the client from a different machine we are getting TCP Error Code 10060 errors. Below is the error message:

Has anyone encountered this problem? Also, client specs say no config files, so anything that wo

Fresh SP2007 Install on Windows 2003, get 404 error for Central Administrator

Hi Folks,

I am very new to Sharepoint (and Server 2003). Installed Sharepoint Server 2007 on a 64 bit machine over Windows Server 2003. This is a standalone install (No Server Farm). After "Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard" succesfully completes, I am unable to get to the Central Administration page (or any page). I get the error page: "HTTP Error 404  - File or directory not found. Internet Information Services (IIS)" .

I am unable to see any of the web pages in the Webroot directory and am stumped.

Here are some screen shots:
