.NET 3.5 .msi installer?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I need to install .NET Framework 3.5 on around 180 Windows XP computers. I would like to do this via group policy and I understand that the installer package must be a .msi package. Does anyone know if the .NET 3.5 is available in .msi package? I tried searching but came up with nothing.

How to create a windows mobile (Smart Device) .Cab installer

A Cab file is the default setup format for Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices (similar to windows .msi files). You probably already have installed several application using .cab files, and are familiar with the concept. One point which is often unknown is that .cab files are processed by wceloader.exe, and it can only install one .cab file at a time. That means we cannot have nested .cab files. It doesn't mean we cannot have .cab files contained by another .cab, but the contained .cab files will not be installed during the installation of the container .cab. We should install it manually after the container .cab file installation has been completed.

There are two ways to create a cabinet (.Cab) file. The traditional one, and the friendly VS Smart Device Cab project which doesn't require additional coding, but which also relies on the traditional one at low-level.

Listening to customers: A simpler SO-Aware installer

Simplicity and the ability to listen to customers are some of the principles behind SO-Aware and Tellago Studios for that matter. Building sophisticated software that is still simple and intuitive from the user/operator perspective is one of those fundamental missing links in enterprise software. The ability of incorporating valuable customer feedback into your product quickly is one of those things that everybody says they do but only a handful of companies truly believe on. Having a team that is...(read more)

Hi, I am using Setup Project to create installer for my windows applcation. I need to have the user read and accept to the terms in EULA document. So this has to be displayed BEFORE the installer installs the applciaiton. Unable to install SQL Server 2005 SP2 - Unable to install Windows Installer MSI File

I have been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for the past couple of days and I was unable to find an answer to my specific problem in the forum. My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 on MacBook Pro, using Parallels Desktop 4.0. Every single time Windows update tries to install SQL Server 2005 SP2, it fails. I am using Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2007 and SQL Server stops randomly and I am forced to restart the software. I am not sure if it is relevant to this specific problem but I thought I would make a note of this.I have downloaded SP2 and tried to install it locally but that did not work. Here is the error message I get:OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)Package Language: 1033 (ENU)Package Platform: x86Package SP Level: 2Package Version: 3042Command-line parameters specified:     /quiet     /allinstancesCluster Installation: No**********************************************************************************Prerequisites Check & StatusSQLSupport: Passed**********************************************************************************Products Detected                         Language  Level  Patch Level       Platform  EditionExpress Database Services (MSSMLBIZ)      ENU       SP1    2005.090.2047.00  x86       EXPRESS**********************************************************************************Products Disqua

Identical instances listed by installer after upgrade

I ran the edition upgrade on a SS2005 installation to bring it up to 2008 R2. Now I am seeing two identically named instances (MSSQLSERVER) when I run setup again. Not only the instance name, but also the details (version, edition, installed features) are identical.  I tried running a repair on the first "instance" and got a file locking error that crashed the setup. Rebooted, then tried again, this time on the second "instance". Same error: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\perf-MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER-sqlagtctr.dll' because it is being used by another process. Background: Reporting Services had been misconfigured, so I was going to uninstall and reinstall SSRS; that is why I had gone back to the setup program. This is Std x64 Edition, running on Server 2008 Std.

Use of SharePoint API from within a VS Installer

Hello, Iv been trying to build a new installer (MSI) for our custom webparts in VS 2010 for SharePoint 2010.   Iv come across an issue thats really driving me mad. I need to be able to update the web.cfg file on the server for where my webpart is being installed. (To be able to add safe control, etc) When trying to use the simplest of SharePoint API classes in C#, i.e SPFarm.Local.Services. Null is always returned (Null reference exception). Iv tried many different attempts at getting simple information from the server and all failing. (SPWebService service = SPWebService.ContentService; SPFarm mySPFarm = SPWebService.ContentService.Farm; SPApplicationPoolCollection cd =  SPWebService.AdministrationService.ApplicationPools; - ALL of these return Null/ Null reference exception) It seems i can only get values when running code using the SharePoint classes in webparts/code thats running from within the site/application.   Can someone please give me some idea of why im unable to use any sharepoint classes outside of the SP sites/applications but on the SP server.   Alternativly, any additional ideas on ways to install custom webparts via a simple installer would be very helpfull - we need to be able to give our customers our webparts to install on their servers and make it as simple for them as possible. i.e using a step by step installer. Installer to verify and install multiple versions of .NET (3.5 SP1 and 4.0)

I'm running VS2010 and have built an installer that checks for the .NET 4.0 dependency. If the installer can't find .NET 4.0, then it is installed from disk (my client machines are not connected to the internet). However, I also require .NET 3.5 SP1 to be installed. Although both .NET 4.0 and 3.5SP1 are both checked in the "Prerequisites" box within my installer. Only .NET 4.0 shows up in the Launch Conditions panel. Right clicking on the "Requirements on Target Machine" box shows a fly out with several options but the "add .NET Framework Launch Condition" is grayed out, because one already exists. Any ideas?

After building Installer - Items missing from Menu

Not sure if this is the best or correct forum so please excuse me and let me know where I should be posting my question, thanks. I have built my Windows Forms Application and it works fine... I now have to build an Installer project, which I have done with  reasonable success... EXCEPT FOR... The Menu Group and item do NOT appear in the Menu system.  The Desktop item appears correctly and the structure is there but no menu items appear.  I created the shortcut for the User's Desktop and User's Program Menu. (Using VS2008, C#, .NET 3.51, Access (DB), Forms, Installer project.) What am I missing SquireDude

Install Sql Server using WIX - Installer

So far I read as much material as I could get on the web, but I am no where near a complete solution. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the problem:
Using an installer, I need to create an installation package to install Sql Server 2005 Express along with our software. We are using WIX (open to any other suggestions) to create .MSI package.

I read this article, but could not figure out how.
Has anyone here installed Sql Server with WIX? What version WIX do I need? [I have Wix 3.5.0]

Let me know if the question is not clear, I'll add more info.

Any help would be great.

sql 2008 installation question, windows installer version check?

sql 2008 installed, but didn't get pop up for windows installer 4.5, though intallation complete, but still wants to confirm the windows installer version, however, the windows 2008 seems not like w2k3 to show all windows components you installed, I only see .net 3.5sp1 on the appwiz.cpl

Couldn't find local patch C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Blah.msp Looking for it at its source.

I get installer errors like this whenever I try to remove SQL 2005 Workstation Components or when I try to install a new named instance. In fact whatever I try to do that involves reading the installation media I get this type of missing file error. Does this indicate there a corruption in my installation media?
