Document Approval Process in SharePoint Foundation

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am currently analyzing the workflow capabilities available in SharePoint Foundation (free version).  One of the business needs my company has is that they would like to be able to submit a document that goes through an approval process.  For examples user1 adds the document then next another user or multiple users are sent an email stating that they need to go into SharePoint and approve this document, then it might be routed for more approval, etc.  My question is does the version I am currently working with support the use of an "approval" type workflow?  Do I need to upgrade to the pay version?  Thanks in advance.

Windows Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - Document Library Settings with Reporting Services 2008 R2 in in

I have a client who has recently upgraded their SharePoint system to Windows Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with Reporting Services 2008 R2 in integrated mode. I have configured reporting services and am able to deploy reports to SharePoint. The client created a document library before the upgrade to WSF 2010. I need to add Report Builder 3.0 to the New Document menu and found the following article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326289.aspx "Allow management of content types?" is set to yes under the advanced document library settings. The problem is that when I try to "add from existing site content types" the reporting services content types are not in the list. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Document control with approval process

I need a mechanism to upload documents, in which has up to 12 different approval levels, dependant on value and cannot be escalated until the lower level's approve.  I need the ability to send email notification that a document is pending their approval as well as the ability to see at any given moment, where the document is in the approval cycle.

Hi All,

I have a document library which contains doc files. Microsoft office is not installed over the SharePoint server. When I am opening the document file from any Windows 7 or windows server 2003 machine it is giving me following error. (The client machines have microsoft office installed.)

"The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document."

Now when I open the same document from XP machine every thing works fine.

It is nothing to do with Firefox or IE version I have checked with all and the results are same for all browsers.

I am started loosing interest in SharePoint for its unpredictable behavior. Developing a thing in SharePoint is 10% work and 90% debugging.

I hope I will get some result or atleast the reason for behavior.

Clicking on it I get this message: 'New Document' requires a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application and web browser. To add a document to this document library, click the 'Upload Document' button.

The same using custom content types.

What should I check? thanks in advance

Designing a basic workflow for document approval using Sharepoint Designer2010.

Here is my current workflow design http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8594/sharepoint2010designer.jpg

My primary question relates to the approval status.  As you can see in the picture I have said if document is approved then copy it to the communications list, else if it is rejected then delete it.  I have also tried putting these items in seperate steps, but no matter what I do it always copies the item to the communications list regardless of the document being approved or rejected and never deletes the previous version (as if that action doesnt even exist).  Any insight is greatly appreciated.  I'm a novice at this so please excuse my ignorance if the answer is obvious.  I'm still trying to gain a basic understanding of the relation between conditions, actions, steps, and such.

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.

SharePoint Document Workspaces for Developers

Office 2003 is being released this month, and a cast of supporting applications is already available. One of these is Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, the free team add-on for Windows Server 2003. If you're not familiar with SharePoint Services basics, take a look at What Developers Need to Know About Windows SharePoint Services. In this article, I'm going to drill into one key place where SharePoint and Office 2003 overlap: document workspaces

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

SharePoint: Add a Recycle Bin to Windows SharePoint Services for Easy Document Recovery

Windows SharePoint Services helps improve collaboration and workflow while protecting documents and intellectual property. But one feature is conspicuously missing - an easy way to back up and restore deleted files from document libraries. In this article, the authors take advantage of the extensibility of WSS and its server-side and client-side object models to build a restore feature that works like the Recycle Bin in Windows Explorer.

Approve/Reject a document using Sharepoint web services

Is there a way to approve / reject a file that has been published on sharepoint 2007 using web services only?

Say there is a document 'A.xls' that was published as a major version by the author. I want the admin to be able to approve/reject it from a site outside the Sharepoint application. I know there is a workflow involved in this, but is there a web service that exposes the functionalities attributed to this workflow?

Can I open the "new" menu in a SharePoint Document Library using Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

When a user, who uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking, says "new" when viewing a Document Library the default content type is selected and the associated application (e.g. Microsoft Word) is launched. This scenario is okay for Content Type selection since the Microsoft Office applications will prompt for the metadata once the file is saved.

If the user needs to create new folders in the Document Library however they need to expand the "new" dropdown menu.

What is the best way for someone using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to expand the "new" menu for a Document Library in SharePoint?

SharePoint Document Parser

I have a requirement to parse an email address from a document when added to a document library, unfortunately, the document's are not formatted in any standard fashion, although they are all word documents which is an advantage.

I have read that SharePoint has a word document parser out of the box, so am wondering whether it can be configured to parse email addresses as meta data? Otherwise, I can write a rundimentary parser myself using regular expressions, and plug this into SharePoint, however, have no idea where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

We will be implementing Document Search (DOC, DOCX, PDF, TIFF, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX) for one of our customers. We were evaluating a few MOSS 2007 based solutions, and happened to visit your site.  What we intend to achieve are the following functionalities:

How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson
