Logging into sharepoint on Win7/IE8 using local server user

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have MOSS 2007.

we have a site setup that internal and external users use. The internal users all type their usernames like this: domain\username.

The external users all just typed their usernames without qualifying them.

We just received windows 7 machines. On these machines, you can't simply put the username, because the domain is listed in the dialogue box. The only way to change this appears to be to type: servername\username in the username box.

I want to change this back to the way it was. I have tried adjusting the default domain in IIS (it was blank, but I tried putting the server name in there) but that doesn't seem to work.

What else can I try? I have tried putting the web site in the trusted sites or intranet zone. I think it already knows it is an intranet site, and that is why it is putting the domain in the username for the user.

Thanks for any help!

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local appl

Hello everybody.I am working on Login control and I am new in ASP.NET. So far what I did is :1. In Website->ASP.NET Configuration I change the form authentication to internet.2. I created a user profile3. This gave me a ASPNETDB.mdf database.4. I added this code :<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> in web.config file.4. I added login control to my login page :<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> <h1>Please Login</h1> <asp:Login ID="LoginAuth" runat="server" > </asp:Login></asp:Content> 5. And the login.aspx.cs file has :using System;using System.Collections;using System.Configuration;using System.Data;using System.Linq;using System.Web;using System.Web.Security;using System.Web.UI;using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;using System.W

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Can you install SharePoint 2010 and User PerformancePoint in a single server enviroment?

Hi I Installed SharePoint 2010 in a single server farm and I configured a Performance Point service aplication. Whenever I run dashboard designer it seems to work but it eventually crashes. I don´t know if I have any configuration errors. I read this Run the Secure Store Service on a separate application server that is not used for any other service. Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases. Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806889.aspx I believe this service is necesary to run connect to data sources does this mean it all cannot be run in the same server.

Sharepoint user profiles in C:\Documents and Settings on server, WSS_AdminService.log

Hi!I've discovered today that desktop user profiles for certain sharepoint users are being created on the server in the Documents and Settings folder. Only 50 have been created - a small portion of our user base; Every folder is being created with a WSS_AdminService.log file in it, which is approx 380 mb in size...its definitly starting to take its toll on storage space.I can't see any pattern as to why a folder is created for a particular user or not.Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this, or how to control it? Thanks so much!Z

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Sharepoint Server 2007. Sharepoint Designer workflow not starting for one user only.

We have created a custom workflow in SPD that is attached to a document library within a MOSS 2007 teamsite.

The workflow is set to trigger when a new item is created in the document library.

Previously, the workflow has worked fine for all users but recently has stopped working for one user only.

For the problem user, what we are seeing is that when a new item is created in the document library, the attached workflow never starts.  There is no error, the workflow just does not get triggered.  However, if the problem user goes to an item in the document library and clicks on the workflow she can manually start it and it works fine with no error.

This user has the same permissions on the site as others who do not have any problem.

In the course of investigating this problem, we have temporarily increased the problem users permissions on the document library to full control (was contribute before) but this has had no effect on the problem.  Authentication is being done via Active Directory.  We have tried removing the user from the site and re-instating her but again this has no impact.

Does anyone have any idea how we could fix this problem or further debug it?

Creating local user account in Sharepoint 2010

I need to create a few account in Sharepoint 2010 that don't belong to the active directory import. I have logged on to the Sharepoint server and created the accounts and expected them to appear when I went to Site Settings and then people and groups and searched for the account names.

I did the same in 2007 and these still appear as the machinename/username.

Is there something I don't know about?

Programmatically copy all files from a SharePoint Library to a local directory on the server with an

Can someone show me the code or have a good reference for me?

VS 2010 and non-local Sharepoint server?

I just installed VS2010 and was excited to see the Sharepoint project type. I was however disappointed when I tried to add it, I was told I didn't have a local Sharepoint server running. Is it possible to use a common dev server for our dev team to use instead of all having local copies?

Action on server to cause launch of application on user's local machine.

Is there a way for an application on a server (Windows 2008) on the company intranet to cause an application to run on the user's local machine?

I need to communicate from the server to the local app, perhaps with named pipe (but I'm open to other methods). However, there is the possibility that the local app is not yet running, or went down, so I need to be able to cause it to launch, as well.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).
