Publish from form?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all

I am using a web enabled InfoPath form in SharePoint. I can submit to a document library from my infopath form. We use the document approval workflow, and I was wondering wheter or not it is possible to approve, reject and publish from buttons in the form?

Can the approved/rejected comments be shown in the form?

Invalid URL error on InfoPath Form Publish on an External List

I am using SP2010 Enterprise on Windows 7 and SPD 2010 & InfoPath 2010 all on the same machine in test.  I create an External List based on a ECT and Click on the 'Design Forms in InfoPath' icon and 'Item' which drops down from it.  That launches InfoPath Designer 2010 & downloads the form from http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn and sets you up in an edit session.  I can make changes on the form but when I publish via File | Publish | External List (Publish Form To An External List) I get a save prompt for local copy & then an error: The following URL is not valid: http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn  (same URL as it started with during the initial download). I took screen shots of the messages to make sure. Some things I have tried & observations: If I change to an internal Custom List the publish step (to list not external of course) works just fine. I also ran this test launching SPD as Administrator with no difference.  I stopped the System Event Notification service per http://serena-yeoh.blogspot.com/2006/08/infopathformurlnotvalid.html  'net stop sens' with no difference Any ideas are welcome. BTW I notice that this step of launching the InfoPath designer does change the form on the list in Sharepoint albeit slightly -

Cannot publish InfoPath 2010 form template to SharePoint Server 2010 RC

Hi all, I am MSFT in Vietnam. I created a SharePoint list using InfoPath 2010 RTM 64bit. After publishing it to SharePoint 2010 RC, I see an error message:  Click on button "Show Details" the message is The list schema does not match the schema of this form. Refresh the data source and publish the form again. When I create new item based on published SharePoint list, I can see plain form not browser enabled InfoPath form. I checked InfoPath Form Services, everything seems to be good. What should I do to publish SharePoint list from InfoPath 2010 to SharePoint 2010 as browser enabled form?

InternalStartup method erro when publish InfoPath form with custom code

Hi All,

I created a SharePoint Form Library, and added a button in the form. Then, by following the steps of adding custom code. I was trying to add codes to the button click event in VSTA. When I try to publish this form to my SharePoint library, I got an error message say:

"The form template has been published to the server but it can only be opened in InfoPath Filler.

There is an error in the InternalStartup method of form code.

There may be additional error detials in the Design Checker task pane."

However, I did not make any changes to the InternalStartup. and then I tried to create another SharePoint Form Library Form in InfoPath Designer, and just add click event, but did not input any code, I got the same error. So I believe this is caused by either environment or the configuration of SharePoint Server. Could anyone help me out? Thanks!

InfoPath list form publish issue when URL changes

We have a problem with publishing SharePoint InfoPath List Forms when site's or some top level site's URL is changed. After someone changes the URL that change does not affect to the InfoPath list form's publish URL value and you are not able to publish the form anymore. I got the following error message and if I change the URL back what it was before then publish works fine again. I don't know is this a feature or bug but does someone know is it possible to somehow update the publish URL to the form so that the possible site URL changes won't break the form publishing?

The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server:

Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown.
<detail><errorstring xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/">There is no Web named "/sites/......./_vti_bin/Lists.asmx".</errorstring></detail>

Stuck: Can't publish updated form.. can't delete custom form

I have a custom list with a custom InfoPath form. I tried to update the form but when I wanted to publish I got a SOAP error. I could not resolve the issue, so I then went ahead to use the default form and delete the custom form (an option in list settings). That caused an exception. So now I am stuck. I cannot edit the current form, and I cannot delete it either. I could recreate the list and start over, but that would be a lot of work. I am also concerned about other lists. Any recommendations?

Not able to publish an infopath 2010 Web browser form mode, Invalid form template, .xsf file not ref

Hi, i am migrating a infopath 2007 form from a sharepoint 2007 site to infopath 2010 form for a sharepoint 2010 site. I used the design checker to verify the form template ,I got a invalid form template error. So I went to the Resource files tab under the developer section. I edited the context.xml to my current site. After this,the design checker gave no errors.

But when i tried to preview this form, I got an erro saying

"The form template contains files that are not referenced in the form definition (.xsf) file or are referenced more than once."

Can anybody tell me where I went wrong?

Is it possible to publish an InfoPath form when I cannot see the SharePoint Server?

I feel like I'm in a Catch-22, but also that I may be missing something obvious.

I want to publish an InfoPath form for a SharePoint Server to be used as a web based form. The form is going to be in a Form Web Part, with a button to submit it (no InfoPath chrome).

The catch is that I cannot directly connect to the sharepoint server from my dev machine.

So here's where I am:

- To have a button to submit the form, I have to use a submit action; can't save.

- To have a submit action, it has to have a data connection.

- To have a data connection, I have to connect to the SharePoint Server. There's no way that I've found to manually configure this - InfoPath always wants to talk to the server, and refuses to proceed if it can't.

- Publishing the form  - any SharePoint publishing wants to talk to a SharePoint server, even an Admin Deployed form (which is silly). I haven't tried publishing as a network form then doing an admin deployment anyway, since I can't get past the data connection issue; but if I do - will this work?

Note to the dev team: cut the umbilical on SharePoint. It's *nice* to be able to talk to a SharePoint site while creating connections and publishing, but it's not always possible in the real world. I should be able to create an InfoPath form, data connections, and publish it on a box that'

JQuery Validate plugin to validate a ASP.NET Form

The first time I used the JQuery Validate plugin, it did not work at all, see JQuery Validate odd behaviour with the ASP.NET Script Manager for reason, but perseverance and stubbornness prevailed and I finally created my first JQuery validated ASP.NET Forms contact form.

How to use getElementById to get the elements in a form

There are many ways of accessing form elements, of which the easiest is by using the cross-browser W3C DOM document.getElementById method. Before we learn more about this method, it would be useful to know something about the Document Object Model (DOM), the concept of HTML nodes or elements, and the concept of containers.

Each time you load an HTML page, the web browser generates an internal representation of the page in the form of an inverted tree structure. Let us look at a simple form. We will use this form later to demonstrate the use of the getElementById method.

Why isn't my Views/Home/Home.Master file published when I publish my website?

Hi All,

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error.  I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx.  This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!

What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu).  That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx.

Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working.  But I am left wondering--why???  Why does this file not get published?  It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run.  It has the same permissions as every other file in my project.  So why wouldn't it get copied?  And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

Thanks for any suggestions on this!

form feild hints are not displaying for textboxses inside create user wizard?

I'm using following JS code to display input hint box besides the textbox whenever that asp.net textbox receives focus.

I'm doing this for a registration form and all of the textboxes are inside the asp.net create user wizard control.

<script type="text/javascript">
function addLoadEvent(func) {
  var oldonload = window.onload;
  if (typeof window.onload != 'function') {
    window.onload = func;
  } else {
    window.onload = function() {

function prepareInputsForHints() {
	var inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("TextBox");
	for (var i=0; i<inputs.length; i++){
		// test to see if the hint span exists first
		if (inputs[i].parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0]) {
			// the span exists! on focus, show the hint
			inputs[i].onfocus = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "inline";
			// when the cursor moves away from the field, hide the hint
			inputs[i].onblur = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "none";

Validate form input - Japanese

 I've searched for several hours and haven't come up with a reference - or even many discussions - of how to go about validating Japanese names, addresses, etc. When I lived in Japan websites, atm's etc. required such info to be entered with the roman alphabet but I've seen some websites that are allowing Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana. I haven't tested many of them for validation but one that I did test (after looking at the page source and discovering no client-side validation) allowed me to put this in the name field: J*=123*go^ Neat!

Any pointers/references? Thanks
