Adding a second domain to windows authentication based web site

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi All

I have an interweb web application that uses Active Directory to authenticate the user.
Im now getting some complaints that users on other domains are unable to access the application.

How can i make it work so that their domain name is also accepted by the application?

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

SharePoint 2010 Claims Based Authentication - anonymous site is prompting for CBA auth when opening

Hi, I have CBA setup successfully on my sites.  One site is setup for anonymous access and I have disabled "client integration" on that web application. I have a list of MS Office documents on a wiki.  When I click on one I am asked to either save or open or cancel.  Saving works fine but when I choose open, it launches the associated MS Office app.  I am then prompted for a login from CBA.  I can click cancel and the logon screen appears again.  After clicking cancel the 2nd time the document appears in the MS Office app, Word in this case. My question is how do I prevent my users from being prompted for a CBA login when clicking on these files and opening them in the native app on their machine?      --TR

Changed to claims based authentication, now I can't access my site. Please help! Time is of the ess

I am in a pretty big bind. I have a sharepoint 2010 site, that was using classic windows authentication. It worked fine from the inside, and I was able to extend it to the outside and it was using https with an SSL certificate. However, my performancepoint reports and my external lists weren't working when the site was accessed from the outside. Apparently this is a known issue with using classic authentication on the outside, so I tried to switch over to claims based authentication. I followed this guide: http://blogs.technet.com/b/wbaer/ar...point-2010.aspx I obviously changed the contoso stuff to my domain name, and changed all of the config files. The problem is, now I can't access the site at all from the inside or the outside. Here is the error I get in my logs: code: An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: Could not connect to http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/actas. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it . My Sharepoint Central Administration site gives me this warning: code: The Security Token Service is not issuing tokens. The service could be malfunctioning or in a bad state. Remedy Administrator should try to restart the Security Token Service on the boxes where it is not issuing tokens. If problem persists, f

Windows Identity Foundation (Claims Based Authentication) for Reporting Services

I see that SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services now supports Claims Based Authentication in Sharepoint 2010, meaning that end users can authenticate with Sharepoint using Claims Based Authentication, and use the same security tokens to connect through to Reporting Services.

I assume that behind the scenes Sharepoint is using Windows Identity Foundation (WIF - formerly codenamed "Geneva") to handle the authentication, and passing this on to Reporting Services.

I'm keen to use Windows Identity Foundation to authenticate with Reporting Services without Sharepoint. We have an existing ASP.NET web application, and we'd like to call Reporting Services from that, passing on the Windows Identity Foundation credentials of the user logged into our web application.

I've done some work on setting up a custom security extension using Forms Authentication (based on the sample), but am not sure how to proceed from there.

Google/Bing hasn't been helpful. Can you please point me to some guidance on how to set up Windows Identity Foundation authentication for Reporting Services?<

Getting HTTP 500 error while accessing sharepiont site with claims based authentication

I have configured one of my SharePoint sites default zone with windows authentication and claims authentication. I am able to access the site properly with windows authentication. But, when I am accessing the site with claims, I am getting Http 500 error. When I captured the http headers, I see below information.

Some users are unable to access my intranet site with windows authentication

Hi All

I have an intranet site that i set up to windows authentication. It works fine most of the time but some departments wont be able to access the site and will be asked to enter user name and password.
I checked their Active Directory account and the only difference i could see was that the  organizational unit parameter was different than the rest of the users. But im puzzled on what i can do to fix it and have them accessing the application.

Any ideas?

Certificate and windows based authentication

We have a WCF service hosted in IIS 7 which currently uses windows
authentication. However, as we on-board new customers which don’t have domain
account we want to use certificate authentication for our new customers without
affecting existing users.

I know we can handle this issue using different endpoints since WCF
allow to set binding and authentication for each endpoint. However, this
approach seems to have a problem on our current users since it requires to
generate a new proxy, which they don’t want it,  due to the change in the
configuration of the service to accommodate this change.

So I am wondering if there is any better way which doesn’t require our
existing clients to generate a new proxy and at the same time which can allow
us to use certificate and windows based authentication.

Is there any way we can handle this by just configurin

Which Domain Controller is SQL Server using for trusted windows authentication?

We are migrating from Windows Server 2003 domain controllers to Server 2008 Domain controllers.  I want to be able to know which domain controller a SQL server is using for authentication, so I can verify that the 2008 Domain Controllers are working, before we take down the 2003 domain controllers permanently.

I also read something about possibly setting a preferred DC?

Please advise

Windows Authentication - Different Domain

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to connect via SQL Server Management Studio to a server sitting on a separate domain. So here is the situation. there is Server B which sits in a domain called DomainB. If I am in DomainA, I could typically remote into that server utilizing an IP address in DomainB, and even transfer files to that server. But how do I connect via SQL Server Management Studio(basically login as a different domain user) to Server B in DomainB from DomainA. Basically when I choose Windows Authentication from the dropdown list in SQL Server Management Studio, it grays out the username field, which is where I could type something like this domainB\usernameondomainB, similar to how you would connect to a share on that server. Please let me know if there is a possibly solution to this. Also, our customer doesnot allow SQL Server Auth/Logins, so that is not an option. Thanks.

dynamically adding sql server columns based on number of files in fileuploader

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")

Web Matrix + Windows Authentication

I'm curious if its possible to get windows auth working with asp.net webpages/webmatrix.

I've got it published to IIS with windows auth turned on and anonymous/forms/basic turned off.

I'm guessing the WebSecurity Helper probably won't work here but can you access User.Identity.Name etc?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I've only just started working with asp.net ^^,

Problems with Forms Authentication in DD 4 site

Hello,  I am seeing a strange problem with Forms Authentication in my DD site.   A user logs into and can view/edit/delete data all day, but when they execute a Custom Filter against data (for example , a control DynamicData/Filters/CustomerLastNameSearch.ascx ) then the site auth fails, and redirects to the log in screen.

in web.config I have

     <authentication mode="Forms">
            <forms name=".Star" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" protection="All" defaultUrl="~/Default.aspx" path="/" timeout="43200" cookieless="UseCookies" />

Offhand, I am thinking two things : that DynamicData/Filters path requires some special handling for some reason, or the control extension ascx is causing auth to get confused.   Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?  Thanks!
