UpdatePanel Reference in control.ascx.designer.cs keeps changing

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have an annoying problem when I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010. I am using an UpdatePanel in my .ascx file like this:

<asp:updatepanel id="upStuff" runat="server">....</asp:updatepanel>

in my control.ascx.designer.cs, the update panel is being defined like this:

protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.updatepanel upSettings;

this produces the error:

"The type or namespace name 'updatepanel' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"

The actual namespace should be System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel. When I go directly into the designer.cs file and change it, it works. However, every time I go back into editing control.ascx and save, Visual Studio always changes it back to System.Web.UI.WebControls.Webparts.updatepanel.

I'm not sure what is causing this. Is it how I should be referencing namespaces and classes in my project? I'm using .NET 3.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a confusing state issue. I found a way around it, but I would like to know why this is happening. First of all, I am using .NET 3.5 and that can't change right now (an easy fix may be the fixed ID capabilities of .NET 4.0).

Type csType = this.GetType();
ClientScriptManager cs = Page.ClientScript;
string jScriptBlockName = "SignUpSignInNameAvailabilityScript";
if (!cs.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(csType, jScriptBlockName))
{   //NOTE: verified code always enters this
    StringBuilder cstext2 = new StringBuilder();
    cstext2.Append("function GetSignUpSignInNameAvailabilityMessage() { var id = '"
          + CreateUserWizardStep1.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("iSignUpSignInNameAvailabilityMessage").ClientID
          + "'; alert(id); return id; }");
    cs.RegisterClientScriptBlock(csType, jScriptBlockName, cstext2.ToString(), true);

This code is in Page_Load of an ascx. The same control is drawn on two separate postbacks of an UpdatePanel in different places of the page thus giving them different client IDs. The code works correctly on the first refresh of web browser; but after UpdatePanel

ASCX Control for Javascript

I have created an .ascx control that contains javascript functions.  I have created a Feature that allows me to deploy it to a site collection.

How do I now include that in any page in SharePoint?

I have tried the following:

<asp:Content ID="JScript1" ContentPlaceHolderID="????????" runat="server">
<MyWorkStat:MyWorkStat ID="JScript2" runat="server">

but I don't know what the ContentPlaceHolderID should be set to.

Really I looking for a way to easily inject javascript into SharePoint pages using Features that I can turn on and off. e.g. pieces of javascript that call jQuery functions.

Is there a way?

Problems with a .NET4 Control GAC Reference failing at runtime but fine during debugging

I believe this question is specific to the CLR how ever I will test this in a Forms Application later. I have multiple .Net 4 Targeted WPF Applications that Reference Non Microsoft .NET 4 WPF Controls that I can confirm are in the GAC. Everything Debugs Great (Noting that none of the references are copied to the output directory) and Install's well using a Setup Package and manually installing has the same effect even after a reboot. The problem is the application will not start even as an administrator as it does not find the Control References in the GAC. This also happens if I try to start the application manually in the visual studio output Directory. I can also confirm that opening the application in reflector that reflector is able to correctly find the references. Finally if I copy the controls (.dll's) to the location of the application everything runs as expected for all the above issues.   My question here is why is my application not able to load the .NET 4 controls from the GAC? Also note that everything uses a Strong Name.

How to Access Parent Page (.aspx) control (IDs) from its child User Control (.ascx)

I have a parent .aspx page that has a asp:panel control in it, and this parent .aspx is also referencing a user control that I registered in that .aspx. Lets just call it usercontrolA.ascx for this post.The user control has a radiobuttonlist itself.Based on a selection from the radiotbuttonlist in the user control, I want to be able to hide the asp:panel in my .aspx (parent) but unfortunately I cant' get it to work:parentPanel.visible = true;  <<< I trried this in usercontrolA.ascx.csBut the user control doesn't know about the panel in the parent .aspxSo do I need to expose that somehow from the parent so that I can access it from the code behind of the child .ascx?  How?

WPF Ribbon Control binding to a VM Ribbon reference

Hi, I have a scenario where I will initialize the Ribbon in XAML but its relatd Tab, group, buttons etc., needs to be coming from VM file , meaning there will be a public property of Ribbon which needs to be set back to the Ribbon that was initialized in XAML like ( I am using WPF provided Ribbon control only)  <r:Ribbon Height="135" VerticalAlignment="Top" Name="mainRibbon" ... > // Above XAML I need to set the RibbonControl which is a public property (having the tabs, gropping, buttons etc., // Since WPF ribbion doesn't have ItemsSource I am struggling to set this ... In the VM file private Ribbon _RibbonControl; public Ribbon RibbonControl { get {      CreateRibbon() //This functon will creates tabs, groups, buttons etc., & adds to _RibbonControl      return _RibbonControl; } } Any help here is greatly appreciated. VS 2010 Isolated Shell, WPF Designer & Custom Controls produces some assembly reference errors

Hello, i currently try to use the VS 2010 isolated shell for providing a custom WPF editor.As described in the headline the WPF designer is 'partly' not able to find all assemblies (details below). After some research the only similar problem description i found here . Unfortunately I could not find any solution for my problem there. These are the steps i have successfully finished: - create a vs isolated shell application with some basic extensions (some tool windows) - create a Custom Project template based upon the MPFProj project (as describe at: here ) - Add the needed reference for custom control in project template - Create and edit XAML markup (no code behind, only markup) - Compile and run XAML Now, the following problem occurred (as a step by step description): - I add a custom control to the toolbox using the context menu "Choose Items..." (ok ) - I drag this custom control from the toolbox into the WPF designer view (ok ) - The custom control is rendered correctly and no assembly reference errors occurred (ok ) - I hit the F5 button in order to execute the XAML markup -> The application is starting correct and looks as exspected (ok ) - I close the running application (window) -> Now the WPF designer view seems to refresh and 'tells' me that an assembly (the one of the custom control) could not be found (error!!! ): There error text is: "Th

Designer View control hierarchy

I have been trying to figure this out for quite a while today... You know the little control hierarchy tool at the bottom of the "Design" and "Code" view of the Designer file? It's gone for some reason. I tried reverting from a Project to a Website too, and still didn't fix the problem. I can see the hierarchy in code view, but not the design view. It's probably some kind of silly option but I couldn't find anything online about anyone else having this problem. Also, when I click on a control in the design view, and I go to the Code view, it just puts me at the top of the page rather than highlighting the control's code and bringing me to it automatically. This is very frustrating, lol.

User control inside Updatepanel

Hi,I have a custom control created to autofill the box as typed in. Its working great. But if I put the control inside an Update Panel, it works for the full postback but if partial postback happens (because of the update panel), it does not work. Please advise me. This is very critical for me. Thank you all Kiran

How do I generate service reference activities in my rehosted designer

My desginer is used to create lots of xamlx workflows.  These are hosted in app fabric. From Visual Studio I can add a service reference that points to my workflows, and it generates activities in my toolbar that I can use to call my service from another workflow. I'd like to do the same thing from my rehosted designer.  I figured it would be something like calling svcutil.exe, but couldn't find any information on this. Does anybody know how to create xaml activities by pointing at a service for a workflow designer rehost?   CheersJason Bolstad

How to reference a elements of one control from other

Can someone explain how user controls can communicate with each other within an asp.net application. I am facing many obstacles at the moment regarding this problem. For example, is it possible to set the visible property of a panel on one user control based on what happens in another?

Another example would be: Can I set the text of a label in one control to be the value of some other property from another control's class like.... Me.PreContentColumn.ColumnID = LocalProduct.PreContentColumnId.

Please let me know if this sounds confusing...

Can not reference text value in footer of Gridview control

I have been struggling with this all week end .... Yell

I am trying to implement adding a new record using the Gridview footer.

I have an example that works finethat I got from http://www.aspdotnetcodes.com/GridView_Insert_Edit_Update_Delete.aspx.

My situation is a little different .. as I am using master page and the Gridview is in a page derived from the master page.

I have tried:

Dim txtNewName As TextBox = DirectCast(GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("NewName"), TextBox)

"NewName" is the ID of the textbox in the footer of the Gridview.

When I try referencing ... txtNewName.Text ... it returns a null value.

There must be some trick to referencing this .Text value when using the Gridview that is within a Content Place Holder that results when using a page that was created using a master page.

Thanks in advance fo any possible help with this problem ...
