Office: Relive the Moment by Searching Your IM Logs with Custom Research Services

Often, IM conversations contain important information you'd like to keep and reuse. Fortunately, MSN Messenger 6.2 has a feature to keep a conversation history permanently in XML format. This article shows you how to leverage that conversation history by consolidating IM exchanges so they are indexed, searchable, and ultimately reusable using the Microsoft Office 2003 Research and Reference task pane.

Need direction on where to research to accomplish very detailed permission handling

Currently i have membership and roles setup on my site. Now what is my next step to get more specific control.

Based on what i hav now, i have my pages setup so they are visible or not and links not visible and so on. But now on a more detailed level, say im setup as a user. As a user my default permissions is just to view data.. no editing. But say someone was let go, now instead of granting me full access to everything, i need to be able to go in and provide more permissions to the account.

Example:

Admins:
Add Users
Modify Users
Delete Users

Users:
View Users Detail (only the person that is logged in)

Since the the user that was let go was an admin. They had all the other options, but as a temporary thing, we need to be able to add say permission "Add Users" to the individual user account.

To accomplish this type of control, what do i need to look at to accomplish such a setup?

To seperate or not to seperate Intranet, workspace and research?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best method for this?

I am trying to set out a staff intranet site for our University and think it should maybe be one way with other (non sp dev) saying another.

I am on the mind set of seperating it out into seperate collections:

  • staff intranet (mainly read published content)
  • workspace for contribute/project type work.
  • research site collection specifically for collaboration etc.
  • Forms a seperate site to store infopath forms processes that we create.

Others think it should be sperate into even more collections:

  • One for IT
  • One for Admin
  • One for Colleges
  • One when it requires them all to play together.

My feeling is that it takes a University which has so many seperate parts and trys to bring it in to one University with one location to go to to get to infomation.

The Staff site I see as a publication area mainly read with writing only for new documents/pages and with subsites like:

  • Colleges
  1. College 1
  2. College 2
  3. College 3
  • Services
  1. IT
  2. Library
  3. HR
  4. Finance
Under these I would expect things like IT Policy, IT work Process, Meeting minutes for IT as whol
