.Net Framework 4.0 install failure & (possible) solution?

I repeatedly got the following error messages when attempting to install .Net Framework 4.0 on Windows 7 Professional x64:Log Name:      SetupSource:        Microsoft-Windows-WUSAEvent ID:      3Task Category: NoneLevel:         ErrorKeywords: Description:Windows update  could not be installed because of error 2359302 "" (Command line: "wusa.exe "C:\79021cf737df094c5735\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart")This error was listed in the msi install log:Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile -- Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.I was able to get the framework installed by going into the MSIServer registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSIServer) and changing WOW64 from 1 to 0.  I haven't been able to locate any good documentation for this value & its purpose, is this an acceptable way of getting this installed, and will it cause any problems in the future?  Should I change the value back to 1?  I have other machines with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate installed that did not have any problems with the 4.0 framework installation.

.Net Framework 4 error: Generic trust failure

I'm having the same issue as a lot of other people.  I've downloaded the standalone installed for the .Net Framework 4 (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe) and tried installing it both by simply double-clicking the executable and right clicking > Run as Administrator.  Neither are working, they both give the same error, "Generic trust failure."  I've gathered my logs and uploaded them to my personal site, they are located here:

I guess the installer chose my H: drive as the file xtraction drive, since it's the largest fixed drive (well, the most free space.)  Here are a few lines from dd_dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64_decompression_log.txt:

[6/25/2010, 10:24:15] Drive 'H:\' has been selected as the largest fixed drive
[6/25/2010, 10:24:15] Directory 'H:\d1f8e660ffe46cc42cb6\' has been selected for file extraction
[6/25/2010, 10:24:15] Extracting files to: H:\d1f8e660ffe46cc42cb6\

[6/25/2010, 10:24:23] Executing command line: 'H:\d1f8e660ffe46cc42cb6\\Setup.exe /x86 /x64'

Then I took a look in the .net installer-generated HTML log file, and the lines of interest are at the very bottom:

Catastrophic failure Error - Correlation ID not found in ULS logs

Hi all

I'm having a problem in sharepoint when trying to create a new site from a custom template - I am getting the below error:

Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))

Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

Correlation ID: [long hex code]

However when I look in the ULS logs there is no mention of this correlation ID. I have turned the logs up to Verbose on everything, then reproduced the error, and still I can't find the error. Is it possible that this error is coming from another subsystem like ASP or IIS? I have looked in the IIS logs and can find the HTTP requests but nothing to do with why the error occurs.

Any help would be appreciated - I feel like if I could find the correlation ID I could at least start to work out what the error is!

Many thanks

The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure

For a very long time we extract data from a linked server without any issues.  We use a scheduled DTS package to call a stored procedure which in turn is doing a bulk copy from the linked server.  The linked server 'AAA' is MSSQL 2005 SP2 and the server which is doing the  extraction is SQL2000 SP unknown at this stage.  For a while now we get the following error:

"The OLE DB provider "AAA" for linked server "AAA" reported an error. The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure.      Error source:  Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server " Later on the error may turn into the follwoing:

"Error string:  [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.      Error source:  Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server "

We did not changed network security, nor usernames or whatever.  It just stared to happen.  Together we may get a "locked" error message.  We do run Redgate to try and trace this error to no avail.  The only way to resolves this error is to restart both servers.

Any help would be appreciated - this is getting too much now.

Catastrophic failure while opening DIP form in Infopath

while opening my content type's DIP in infopath, it shows 'Catastrophic failure'.

while searching, i have found the reason for this,

While doing this so, you may be facing an ugly error Catastrophic failure error. Dont worry about this error... this is because of the columns in your content type. While creating a column in content type, that column should not contain any space(s). For example, you created a content type named "Test Document" and the site column you use is "Test Column". Then this content type will face the catastrophic failure error.

the columns are already being used.please guide me to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance.

sporadic error "The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure"

Hello Experts,

ín my case I have a linked server based on provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle".
To import data using this linked server working well but sometime the import step failed with the error message "The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure". I checked the log files and found the known message "c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION".

I use:
Windows Server 2008 SP2
SQL Server 2008 SP1
Oracle 11g

After browsing this forum and web using the messages above I only found the solution to connect microsoft.

Are there any other solutions?

Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile installation error: (0x800B010B), "Generic trust failure "

I'm currently using a window 7 64 bit operating system fujitsu laptop and I've been trying to install a update: 'Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB2160841)'. However, upon many tries of installing the update, i still couldn't get it install. The error details for the update is Code 66A.

Therefore, after searching on Windows forum for solution for that error, i've tried to repair the Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile by following these steps:

A. Click on Start and click on Control panel.

B. Go to Program and Features.

C. Scroll down to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 Client Profile, right click it.

D. It will give you a choice of Uninstall/Change, click it.

E. Then, it will give a choice to repair.

After following the above steps, the repair did not succeed because: Generic trust failure.

"Catastrophic failure" when accessing an OCX library from C#

I'm currently trying to use a third-party DLL from my C# application. I've registered the DLL and added it as a reference from the list of COM component. As I understand, this should create the necessary interop classes to access this DLL from C#.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Entity Framework 4 Tips for WinForms Development

I've been recently working on a smart client (WinForms) application backed by Entitiy Framework 4 (EF4) on Visual Studio 2010. In this blog post I will try to give you some tips regarding some limitations and points to be careful about EF4.
