Go Mobile: Create Compact, Robust Mobile Apps with SQL Server CE 2.0 and the .NET Compact Framework

Developers have myriad options when it comes to creating solutions for mobile devices. One of the greatest challenges facing mobile developers is finding a compact yet robust local storage solution. SQL Server CE 2.0 promises to deliver on both fronts. This new release represents a tremendous leap in terms of features and performance over its predecessor. This article will review some of the platform and tools choices developers have today. The authors will compare and contrast the significant new features in SQL Server CE 2.0 with the previous release. Following that, they will build a sample app for illustration.

Create an Event Handler to catch calls to Create.aspx

Hi, I want to research creating an event handler/reciever to catch calls (mouse clicks) to Create.aspx to prevent users having the ability to create new content. I've noticed in VS2010 the templates for Event Recivers you do not get anything similar that I could use as a starting point (List Events, List Item Events etc) Any ideas how I can define a new type of event receiver?

Migrating .Net 2.0 Framework Web service project to .Net 3.5 Project & impact on Proxy

Hi

We are upgrading .Net 2.0 Framework Web service project to .Net 3.5 Project. We are not changing any methods.

 Will there be any change in the proxy because of this Framework Upgrade.

My requirement is to all the existing clients consuming this webservice should not have any impact due to this framework upgrade.

Thanks

WCF Service with .NET Compact framework on CE 6

Hi,

I need to implement a server on my CE device. I have, while waiting for the CE device hardware to be available, written a desktop app using WCF which does exactly what I want, but of course when it comes to porting it to the CE device I find that ServiceModel is more restricted. The code I have on the desktop app is very simple, and all the setup is done programatically:

    [ServiceBehavior(IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults=true)]
    public class ACService : IACService
    {
        public byte[] ServerRequest(byte[] InData)
        {

         ....

        }

The Service Interface is defined as:

    [ServiceContract(Namespace="LMM_AC")]
    public interface IACService
    {
        [OperationContract]
        byte[] ServerRequest(byte[] InData);
    }

And initialising the service is done as:

                serviceHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(ACService));
  &n

create proxy client with SvcUtil from service using https+cert authentication

Hi all,

I have build two web services one is wcf hosted in iis and the other one is java web service (jax-ws ri) hsted on tomcat. Both of the services uses https and certificate authentication.The certificates are valid and when I check the wsdl's from the browser I can see them without any warning.

So I want to create a wcf client for the services with svcutil. I have created the necessary config file for svcutil (svcutil.exe.config).

When I try to create the proxy files for the java service (svcutil http://JavaServiceIpAddress/service?wsdl) I receive

"metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved .

<Fault xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" >
   <faultcode xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" xmlns="">a:Client</faultcode>
   <faultstring xmlns="">Cannot find dispatch method for {}</faultstring>
</:Fault>

the request was aborted: Could not create ssl/tls secure channel"

When I execute svcutil http://WcfServiceIpAddress/service.svc the proxy and configs file are created smoothly. When I try svcutil http://WcfServiceIpAddress/service.svc?wsdl

"error: cannot obtain metadata from http://WcfServiceIpAddress/service.svc?wsdl

Bar Code Scanners with the .NET Compact Framework

Summary: Learn how to make your applications use bar code scanners in a generic way-ndependent of the specific bar code scanners that are used on different devices. Using the design patterns Façade and Factory, the implementation not only supports multiple bar code scanners, but it also makes it easy to add support for other bar code scanners. After a brief discussion about bar code scanners and the bar code scanner pattern, a download code sample, written in C#, demonstrates the use of the pattern and technologies.

Any framework for creating a job scheduler service?

Just curious to know if there was any official Microsoft code blocks, classes, or such for writing a service that runs other assemblies or WCF services?  That can be configured easily from a web page, pre-coded, for running tasks at certain times on certain recurring intervals?  I've already built one but am open to anything done better- which I'm sure there is.  Thanks!!!

Creating Event Handler in Code behind

Hi, so I have a control that is created in the code behind and generates fine but I can't figure out how to create an event handler for it.  I've found plenty of examples for it in C sharp, but none of them seem to apply to VB.  What I want to do is essentially this:

myDropDownList.SelectedIndexChanged = "Event to do here"

but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
