Columns missing in SPD Workflow.

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this.

I have a site content type (based on the form type) which uses some existing site columns from the parent site.  There's about 30 columns in total in the content type, however, when I try to read/write to these columns from within an SPD workflow (the content type is associated to a forms library), only a handful of the columns are available to use.  When I look at the content type on the library settings page, all the ones I can use are highlighted blue & are clickable, the rest are all grey & not clickable.

I presume this is something I've done wrong whilst creating the content type?

Any pointers on how I can make all the columns usable appreciated.

Workflow data missing from Document Library

Hi, We have this strange situation where the workflow status is missing from document library views. Here is the situation: I have a Document Library with 3 OOTB approval workflows configured to start manually. Process is that user uploads a doc, start the first workflow, once it gets completed starts the second, and so forth. Now if I check the All Documents view of this Document Library, I can see these three workflows have 3 columns and that shows the status of the workflow - say "In progress", "Completed" etc. Now our users who use this document library and workflow complains that they cannot see these status of the workflow after some days. If a workflow is completed and status shows completed there, but after some days that column is blank. I've checked the modified data for the documents and this issue according to the user happens to documents that was uploaded 2 weeks back too, which means this doesn't happen to old document only. This document library has Major and Minor versioning enabled. Why does this happen, does SharePoint remove data for completed workflows? I checked the document's workflow page and its empty; nothing under running workflows and nothing under completed workflows. In Doc Library settings - Workflow settings I could not find an option View Workflow reports. That page has the following details: Use this page to view or

Association Columns - Reusable Workflow

I have created a reusable workflow and added the site columns that I needed via the ‘Association Columns’ tab.  I have saved and published the workflow successfully.

I then realised that I needed to add more site columns, which I did in the same manner that I did previously.  I do get a warning at this point ‘Changing the association columns for this workflow can cause new instances of existing associations to fail’.

When I try to save the form I get the following error ‘Some association columns defined in this workflow are no longer valid.  This error may occur if the corresponding site columns have been deleted.  To fix the workflow, delete and recreate the affected columns’.

Reusable workflow and updatable columns

Hi,

I have created an infopath form which has promoted updateable columns I have then published this to the central forms service on our sharepoint farm and then activated this to one of our site collections.

The content type for this seems to have been created successfully as all the site columns in the content type are showing that they are updatable.  I have then associated this content type to a forms library and am trying to write a reusable workflow in SPD which can make use of the content type.

The problem that I have is that whenever the workflow writes to certain columns within the workflow the workflow errors with an error message like "Error the field could not update,  the field may be of a different type" .  This isn't exactly the error ( will post the exact message when I get back to work on Monday).  The field that I am updating is of string type and I am updating it with the value "Pending".

Strangely when I write a list workflow on the forms library the workflow behaves as I would expect - updating the column correctly.  Has anyone else had this issue with reusable workflows.  If so what did you do to fix it.

As a concept I would prefer to use the reusable workflows as it allows the workflow to be exported to code later on which we may ne

Document Library Missing Columns in Edit Properties

Hi, I'm having an issue with a specific Site Collection.  The issue is that some of the columns do not show up when you go to the Edit Properites page, or when the user creates a new document.  The items can be edited when opened in a data sheet, but the users would like to be able to edit them on the Edit Properties page.  They say they haven't made any changes, but this has happened at least 3 times with differenct document libraries on this specific site.  Has anyone else ever dealt with this?  Anyone got a solution?  Let me know if more info is needed.  Thanks.

Missing Workflow in Designer

I built a workflow in Designer recently and implemented it in WSS 3.0 with much success. Although now i can no longer find it in designer when i go to modify it. The workflow i built is still working and can be found under workflow settings but it prompts me to use a workflow editing tool. Naturally i open Designer and its not there.  What's the deal? It has seems to have disappeared completely. I can't seem to figure this one out. help.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Adding Multiple Columns and Rows in GridView without using a Database

This article describes on how to add multiple columns and rows in GridView without using a database. Basically the GridView will be populated with data based on the values entered in each TextBoxes on Button Click and retain the GridView data on post back.

add columns with textboxes in gridview using C#

'm working on a shopping cart in a website and I have my items(which have been added to the cart) in an arraylist. And using these values I've read the rest of the values from the db and and have populated on the gridview successfully.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Free Series of SharePoint Workflow How-to Videos

This is the series of "How to" Document Workflow with SharePoint using Visual Studio 2008 (using the .NET Framework 3.0 for backward compatibility to Visual Studio 2005). I have created video's that show the most common requests that I have seen around MOSS/SharePoint 2007 workflow & document workflow.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

Sorting GridView Columns Manually

We all know that GridView columns can be sorted automatically when SQLDataSource is being used. But what if you are not using SqlDataSource to populate the GridView. Sorting the GridView manually is pretty straight forward task take a look at the code below

dynamically adding sql server columns based on number of files in fileuploader

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")

objConn.Open()

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

Hello!-

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Missing 'new item templates'

 Hi all,

I am a 'newbie' to VWD and I am slowly working through the Basic Walkthrough Help files, and learning plenty along the way.

However, when I tried to create a new database in the LINQ control walkthrough I found that the option to create a new database is missing, and further investigation has found that many other new item templates are missing.

I am using a brand new machine with Windows 7 Ultimate and have enabled IIS and .NET from Control Panel-Programs-Turn Windows Features On-Off. I used the WPI to install all basic elements eg. IIS Components, SQL Server Express.

The only 'new item templates' I have when I right-click the App_Data Folder and choose 'new item' are:-

ADO.NET Data Service

AJAX Enabled WCF Service

Dynamic Data Field

SQL Server Database

Text File

XML File

Does anyone know where I have gone wrong.

How to change text in columns in SSRS?

I need to create a complex report and export it to Excel.

In the first column header, text is displayed as "Hide Daily Columns", but I need the text to change as "Unhide Daily columns" when I click on it and when the text changes the columns under "daily" header (I have 3 columns under this header) present in the report shud be hidden and only weekly columns shud be visible. Any ideas please. I am new to SSRS and tried out many ways but didn't get it.
