I am new to SharePoint and SharePoint 2010.

I need to edit the user details when he is logged in, in my web Application, let me explain the scenario in detail.

1. User is log's in the application.

2. Clicks on "My Settings".

3. When the user views his details and clicks on the "Edit Item", then the user is not able to edit his profile but get only to "Attach File".

Checks performed by me:

1. Have checked is the user profile service is started for the current application or not (its started).

2. Have checked is the user profile synchronization service is started for the current application or not (its started).

Please help how can it be done as my site is not in the requirement.

Enable/Disable controls dynamically based on User settings

In my project I have a requirement that all controls in each window shall be enabled or visible dependent on user and the admin shall be able to change is a user will be able to use or see the control. I made a very simple test application that creates a user and gives him a list (will be loaded from db in real app) of the name of the controls in the window and also his settings. Then after initializing the window I use reflection to find the controls and set their isenabled/visibility properties. This solution does the thing but I'm wondering if there is a better solution. The main issue here is that each control must be set per user and thus roles wont work appropriate and also that I need to be able to change the settings at runtime.

Enable/Disable controls dynamically based on User settings

I need an elegant way to enable/disable controls in my WPF application at run time using an external settings file(xml file)

I know this can be done using binding with Visibility/ IsEnabled property for all the controls, but how will i do change that in run time.

I also want to know whether combining the Settings.settings file and use bindings is the way to go.

There is documentation for VS2005 but not for VS2008 related to Settings.settings file approach.

I need recommendation for this type of features in WPF apps

Any help will be highly appreciated.

thanks

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

Hello!-

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Linq - add data to database then email user the details

Hi all

I'm not sure how to structure the code for this but what I want to do is be able to add data to a database, and once this has completed successfully, then email the user to say the details have been added successfully to the database.

I need to:

1. Check that the relevant data has been added into the database then

2. Email the details of the relevant data when completed.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Laura

User Preferences: Manage User Settings in Your .NET App with a Custom Preferences API

There are plenty of options out there for managing user preferences including custom configuration files, the Windows registry, and the isolated storage. But each option has its pros and cons -- and a bad choice can make life difficult. In this article, the author evaluates various options and identifies the characteristics of a good preferences API. Based on those characteristics, he introduces an API that is specifically designed for preferences management, one that offers the best of all the options.

Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. This webpart has just a RichTextField, in edit mode, "linked" to one item of the list, like below: SPSite _SPSite = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWeb _SPWebProjects = _SPSite.OpenWeb("/Projects"); SPList _SPListProject = _SPWebProjects.GetList("/Projects/Lists/Project"); int _ID = Convert.ToInt32(this.Page.Request.QueryString["ID"]); RichTextField _RTF = new RichTextField(); _RTF.ID = "RTF"; _RTF.ControlMode = SPControlMode.Edit; _RTF.FieldName = "History"; _RTF.ItemContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); _RTF.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); this.Controls.Add(_RTF);   Then, I "turned on" the edit tab on the ribbon by doing the follow: protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { SPRibbon _CurrentRibbon = SPRibbon.GetCurrent(this.Page); _CurrentRibbon.TrimById("Ribbon.WebPartPage"); _CurrentRibbon.MakeTabAvailable("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.MakeContextualGroupInitiallyVisible("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.Minimized = false; _CurrentRi

Use ASP.NET Membership store for user settings with Windwos Authentication

I am evaluating ASP.NET Membership for an intranet Silverlight app. I want users to be automatically authenticated for my application with their windows logon. Thus I configured Windows Authentication.I would like to store user settings like email-address in using the SqlMembershipProvider and not AD. It seems that storing user settings using the SqlMembershipProvider is not supported with Windows Authentication. Is this really so (using .NET 4)? If so: What is the rationale behind this?IMHO authentication, user settings and authorization are distinct aspects.User settings could easily be stored (identified by user name) using the SqlMembershipProvider with authentication and password management being supplied by Windows. What is the recommended solution for my scenario?

Powerpoint ppsx files open as read only in sharepoint with not option to edit

With Powerpoint 20007 in sharepoint(MOSS 2007) the PPSX files are opening in read only mode with no option to edit to be found. 2nd issue is ppsx files do not open on any persons computer as a show.  Is it possible to change this? How do I change this so I can edit the slides? Current "bad" solution is to save to local drive than upload them over the location  on sharepoint. Insert and Edit Pages with Web User Control Template for another table

Hi, I have an Address template(web user control) which holds the fields of the Address table.  The Address template is embedded in the School Insert Page.  I want to insert a new school together with its address(which means I have to insert a record into the address table).  Can you let me know how I can pass the newly generated addressId to update school table?  Also, how can I associate the Address.cs in the App_Code with the Address template?  I want it to be able to scaffold columns which needs to be hidden from user in the address table.  When I click on Insert School, the Address template shows in "insert" mode, I just need to link the two together. Thanks for your help! CC

Sharepoint user profiles in C:\Documents and Settings on server, WSS_AdminService.log

Hi!I've discovered today that desktop user profiles for certain sharepoint users are being created on the server in the Documents and Settings folder. Only 50 have been created - a small portion of our user base; Every folder is being created with a WSS_AdminService.log file in it, which is approx 380 mb in size...its definitly starting to take its toll on storage space.I can't see any pattern as to why a folder is created for a particular user or not.Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this, or how to control it? Thanks so much!Z
