Install Requirement - The instance name is arbitrary and was created when Microsoft SQL Server was i

On this Technet Article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662513.aspx related to service account permissions during install there is this requirement mentioned: "The instance name is arbitrary and was created when Microsoft SQL Server was installed."

Does anyone know why the instance needs to be created when SQL Server is installed as opposed to later after SQL Server is already installed?

named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

Hi folks, about 1,5 months ago I have set up a - 1 server - development environment for PS2007. I had installed all components on one Windows 2008 box. Everything worked fine, now I receive an error. •MOSS 2007 •SQL 2008 SP1 •MOPS 2007 SP2 I have done the additional installation for the cube building part according to this page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466(office.12).aspx Microsoft SQL Server Native Client (sqlncli.msi) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection (sqlserver2005_xmo.msi) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backwards Compatibility Components (SQLServer2005_BC.msi) Everything worked fine. KB955706 failed to install on Microsoft SQL Server 2005

I downloaded and installed Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005.  During the completion of the installation, there was a Hotfix.exe error that said "A recently applied update, KB955706, failed to install.  Also, a message pops up to reboot the computer.  Does this mean that the Service Pack 3 installation was unsuccessful?  How do I fix this?

Install MOSS 2007 and ProClartity 6.3 (PAS6.3) on the same Microsoft Windows 2003 Server

An install of MOSS 2007 and ProClartity 6.3 (PAS6.3) on the same Microsoft Windows 2003 Server seems to be problematic. MOSS 2007 creates a default website and stops the normal default website. As soon as PAS 6.3 is installed it installs to this stopped default website. How can I overcome this issue?

How Do I Set Server Administration Privileges on Analysis Services Instance (Microsoft SQL Server 20

Hello. I need to do Association Analysis on a company KPI to determine its key influencers - among other things. This is my first attempt ever and I have installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Add-Ins for Office 2007. I also have SQL Server 2005 installed on my laptop. I chose the "Use an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services that I administer" and launched the Server Configuration Utility. I am advised that I will need server administrator provileges on the Analysis Services instance that I am about to configure. The defaulted server name is localhost. Indeed I get an error message when I try to advance: "Unable to discover metadata on the server 'localhost'. User 'Maigida-PC\Maigida' needs to be administrator of the server to run the configuration tool" Help me please: How Do I Set Server Administration Privileges on Analysis Services Instance to myself on a local server on my laptop? I need to master DM in Excel 2007. Deep regards.

Cannot create instance of "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)" on x64 Vista with x6

I am attempting to take data from an Excel 2007 spreadsheet and use OpenDataSource to throw the data into a SQL Server 2008 SP1 table under an x64 OS and x64 SQL Server.  I was able to get this to work under x86 versions of the OS and SQL by setting sp_MSset_oledb_prop with values of AllowInProcess and DynamicParameters to 1.  However, under x64 SQL 2008, when I set the AllowInProcess option to 1, I get the following error:  "OLEDB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured to run in single-threaded apartment mode."  If I turn this flag off, I receive the error shown above in the title.I saw suggestions about creating a .Net program and then forcing it to target an x86 processor, but this method did not work either.  I also saw suggestions about installing the 2007 Data Access drivers, and although I believe they already were installed, I installed them specifically, but it changed nothing.  I also tried remotely accessing the x64 system from an x86 environment, but it also changed nothing. Therefore, I cannot get the OpenDataSource method to work from Mgmt Studio or from an x86 program, so I would appreciate insights into how someone is supposed to be able to retrieve data from an Excel 2007 workbook in an x64 environment.  I find it hard to believe that with numerous servers running on x64 t

Hi,

I have an issue when I want to install a new instance SQL Server 2008 on server which already contains 2 instances.

My screen is blocked on the step "Feature Selection". So I noticed when I compared both logs one of a correct installation and my installation log some differences (below the log of the file detail.txt)

Printing for the first time - Install Microsoft SQL Server???

We never had this problem but one ouf our customers tried to print a report for the first time.  He got a dialog box:

Internet Explorer - Security Warning

Do you want to install this software?

                    Name: Microsoft SQL Server

He called and asked what he should do.  Since we never had that dialog box when printing, I assume the wrokstation he's printing from doesn't have something installed.  Does he really need to install SQL Server before he can print a report?????
