create new custom list form in sharepoint designer and edit in browser

hi, i have created a new list using sharepoint designer 2007. now i inserted a custom list form to modify some field and add new ones. when i finished i will tight my new custom list to the custom form. what i want to know is. i see the status field in my new form. and i only want the status field to appear in the edit form for the one that has the permission to edit the status. then i tought of open the list in my browser and go to the list settings. but what i notice is i dont see my fields i have modified in sharepiont designer in the columns section i only see the ones from the existing list. my question is how can i hide the status field in the new item form that it only show in the edit form. and how do i get my new form in the column section so the end user can add more fields if they want without using sharepointdesigner thnx

Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. Custom List Edit is redirecting to newform


Good Afternoon - I have an issue with a Custom List I created.  I created a custom new form, called CopyNewForm and it works perfectly.  I tried to change EditForm just to rearrange fields.  Everything broke New, Edit, and Display.  I got New and Display working (I've made no changes to Display) but now when you select EditForm, SharePoint redirects to the CopyNewForm.


The Supporting Files of List Properties has been changed for <b>Item</b>.  New item form directs to CopyNewForm.aspx and Edit item form points to EditForm.aspx for content type "Item". 


I'm at a loss as to why when I try to click on Edit Item, SharePoint directs me to CopyNewForm. 


Please does anyone have any suggestions.






Custom List Edit Item Form


If I change the default querystring variable from ID to CustomID then it doesn't show the relevant record from the list.

I did this to avoid an error

"No item exists at http://moss-server:18498/pagescollection/EditGroupMeetingPlannerForm.aspx?ID=88.  It may have been deleted or renamed by another user."

What should i do, to avoid this error. Plz help me.

External List custom Edit/Display forms

I working with creating an External List with ECT and .NET Type. Im using Sharepoint Foundation and

I can't figure out how I can change url to the different forms like with a regular CT I use something like this:

ct.EditFormUrl = "_layouts/someeditform.aspx";<br/>
ct.NewFormUrl = "_layouts/somenewform.aspx";<br/>
ct.DisplayFormUrl = "_layouts/somedispform.aspx";<br/>

I have tried changing the list displayformurl and there it complains about it can't find the url or something like that.


So any suggestion or questions(if you don't understand what Im talking about:)) is appreciated.




Creating a custom page for a different action - not insert/details/edit/list?


If want to make a new page with a different action (not insert/edit/details/list) is the website root the right place to put it?  That seems to be the only place where I don't get a "404 - Not Found" error.  I just wondered if there's a best practice for this ... maybe creating a new action in addition to List/Edit/Insert/etc so that my page can go in the same folder with the other pages for the same table.  For example could I add a "Print" action and then put my page in DynamicData/CustomPages/SurveyResponses/Print.aspx?

SharePoint 2007 - How to associate a Custom List View with a Custom Edit Form. Edit link always re


Can someone give me a clue of how to connect a specific Custom List View with a custom Edit Form.

I have created a custom list, and I have created a custom view attached to that list.   I also have a custom CustomEditForm.aspx form created using SharePoint Designer.

I want to associate the Custom Edit form directly with one and one view only for a given list so that when the user clicks the edit icon in that view, they are linked to the custom Edit Form.  But all other views including the All Items view behave as normal, i.e. using the normal EditForm.aspx.

I can replace the EditForm.aspx in the Url with my custom form and it works fine, but I can't seem to figure out how to connect the custom view edit link to the custom form.  It always takes me back to the default EditForm.aspx page.

I have investigated the href="{$URL_Edit}?ID={@ID}" onclick="GoToPage('{$URL_Edit}?ID={@ID}') in code, which appears to  be how the URL is generated but I'm not sure how or where best to set the value of URL_Edit parameter so that I point to the custom Edit Form.  This is somehow getting passed into the custom view, but I'm not sure how best to set it for a specific non-AllItems view.

How to use a drop down list to edit in the standard Edit.aspx with DD?


Hey All,

I'm brand new to Dynamic Data and to ASP.NET.  I've been able to fumble around and get the calendar extender up and running and a few other customization options implemented, but I can't seem to get this drop down list to work - even after reading tons of online info.  The good news is that my web page/application is VERY simple, so hopefully you guys can help me out.  I'm working in VB btw.

I have a list of road projects submitted to me by local governments.  One of the fields is SponsoringAgency, which has a limited number of possible entries (the names of member governments).  Thus, when they submit a new project, or edit an existing one, I want to limit the input into the field "SponsoringAgency." I'm trying to use a dropdownlist because I'm familiar with it from Access, but it may not be the best approach.  Imagine you just setup a brand new, standard DD website, how would you get this to work?

Methods tried and failed (probably because I don't understand them fully):

UIHint - The closest I can get with this is an error saying that since SponsoringAgency isn't a Foreign Key, I'm out of luck.

I would like to know below things

(1) How to create MySite for one specific member with other or administrator's access?

(2) Scenario : Administrator have created one SP2007 site. now Administrator have created one calendar (Sample calendar). Administrator have added some entries in calendar. now one user entered in portal site ansd view the calendar and he click on MySite menu. so this sample calendar entries should enter in that user's mysite calendar. How this can be achieved?

Picker returns nothing for BDC column in custom list


Playing with the BDC for the first time, running into some issues adding a Business Data column to a custom list.

I believe my ADF file is solid. I've been able to import that just fine and can use the application to drive various BDC-specific webparts (a Business Data List or Business Data Item, for example). It also seems to work when I manually enter information in my NewForm.aspx field and click the Check Names button (it verifies my entry and underlines it, creates link to profile when I view the list data).


If I try to use the picker, I get nothing. Enter a name I know is valid or a % and click the magnifying glass icon and I very briefly get the "Please Wait" message, then just an empty set with "Type into the search box above then press "Enter" to start your search" where my results should be.

Any pointers? Thanks.

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore



Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.

How to enable check in check out functionality for a custom list?



how could i enable check in check out functionality for a custom list? I know this exists for document libraries, but isnt this possible for custom lists?

Need to pass parameters from URL to fields in Custom List


I have a complex customized list and I need to pass parameters of two fields so that when the 'Questionnaire' is completed and subsequentially opened after initial submission, it will retrieve the Number and GUID automatically in respective fields. I send an email out with a link to the 'Form' that carries the parameters.
