sqldatasource's filter returns too few records

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a puzzling issue.  This is in asp.net 2.0, using vb.  I have a gridview that is bound to a sqldatasource.  Here is the datasource code:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="fellowsSqlDataSource" runat="server"
        ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PFPFellowsConnectionString %>"
        ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PFPFellowsConnectionString.ProviderName %>"
        FilterExpression="{0}"  >
            <asp:SessionParameter Name="psuaccessid" SessionField="username" />

Update statement not updating records and returns no errors

I am running an Update statement against an SQL database on server 2008. The update runs but does not update the record, but returns no errors. The database is part of a commercial help desk package called TrackIt 8.5 which was just a fresh install on a new web server and a new sql server. The update is running from a web form we use to automatically create active directory accounts. After the account is created the web form closes out the work order in the Trackit db. This was working fine when the system was running on Server 2003 and SQL server 2005. Running Trackit version 7.02. The login use to access the database has full permissions to read and write to the database, just as it did on the old server which never had an issue updating. Odd thing is, if I log onto the SQL server and make a change to any single field in that record. I can then run the web form and it updates the record normally. All other update statements that are running on other databases are running fine. Anyone have any suggestions on what to check that may be causing this issue?

filter dropdownlist/sqldatasource

DISCLAIMER: I am very new to asp.net

I am working on a webform that allows users to access information from a database of algae species.  I have a drop down list of all algae genera for the user to chose from.  I would also like to have a check box that would allow the user to filter the drop down list so that it only shows diatom genera (diatoms are a type of algae).

Below is code that I thought should work, however checking the checkbox seems to have no effect :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

<script runat="server">
    Sub Page_Load()
        If chkDiatoms.Checked Then
            dsGenusList.FilterExpression = "is_diatom = 1"
            dsGenusList.FilterExpression = ""
        End If
    End Sub

<form runat="server">
<asp:CheckBox id="chkDiatoms" text="Diatoms Only" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"/> <br>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlGenus" runat="server" dataSourceID="dsGenusList" dataTextField="genus"> </asp:DropDownList>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="dsGenusList" runat=&q

query wich returns records for each day between start date from table 1 and mutation dates in table

I have to tables with dates, table Employments with all employements of all employees, with start date and end date, and a table Mutations with mutations (e.g in salary) with start dates.

Now I try to write a query which returns a record for each day an employee is in employment, with the correct salary. SO at first, it should return all days between the employment start date and the first mutation date, then the number of days between the first mutation date and the second mutation date etcetc, and at last the number of days between the last mutation date and the employment end date. The number of mutations varies for each employment, and employees cna have multiple employments (history, so not at the same time) in the employments table.

How to do this?

InfoPath forms library search returns no result on some records but not others

I have an Infopath forms library with about 500 forms in it.  When I search on the forms lbrary or the site that it's in, for the surname on the form (which is also promoted out as a column on the forms library) then I can find some forms, but not others.  The results are consistent.  So if I search for the name "Smith" I can find Smith's form, but if I search for "Jones" it always returns no results.  I have tried running a full crawl again, and also verified in the crawl log for the URL of the individual XML files for the forms for both "Smith" and "Jones".  Both forms are logged as being crawled successfully.  I am a site collection administrator and I can open both the forms and look at them.  The forms library has major versioning turned on and no content approval.

Any ideas on what might ber wrong?  Can anyone point me where to look?  We have one server for indexing and a separate one for queries (that also has Central Admin), plus two front end web servers.

How filter data from a webservice that returns a table by comparing dates

I have an infopath form that takes in brings in an entire table and I want to filter it on datetime by comparing records from a time span of dates that have already been assigned.  I have tried everything from doing it from the within infopath using equations to filter the datasource and also doing it programmatically.  I am to the point where I think it has to be done programmically (C#).  Here is an example of the XPath code I was trying:

(xdMath:Avg(xdXDocument:GetDOM("ISSOrbits")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:ISSOrbits/@Apogee[(number(translate(xdXDocument:GetDOM("ISSOrbits")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:ISSOrbits/@StartTime, "T-:+", "")) >= number(translate(/my:myFields/my:MissionData/my:LaunchMissionDateTime, "T-:+", "")))]))

It seem that only the first record (node) from ISSOrbits gets compared and not the whole dataset.

Please show me how to do this programmatically in C# or if there is way to do it without code.

P.S. I forgot to mention that table is brought in through a webservice that cannot filter data.

SQL 2008 to iSeries via linked server (IBMDASQL) - TOP 10 * SQL query returns ALL records

I am querying a iSeries - AS400 database from SQL server 2008 server 64 bit,  via a linked server (using OLE DB Provider - IBMDASQL)

The SQL is select top 10 * FROM <linked Svr>.<Dest server>.<DBName>.<TableName>

Instead of returning top 10 rows, the query returns ALL the rows. I use the top 10 sql query in my "Heart beat monitor" to check the viability of the linked server after a server reboot.  If the test query work

Display Total Records After Applying PagedCollectionView Filter

When we used the data grid control to show total number of records which are displayed in the data grid. But if you use or apply Filter to filter the records based on the user input then the number of records displayed in the data grid are changed which need to update as use changed the filter criteria.

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

GridView Multiple Filter AJAX Control

This AJAX control enables the user to filter data within any column inside a GridView. The user can add multiple filters and can delete existing ones too.

ASP.NET GridView - edit records using JQuery Dialog

There are many ways in which you could modify modular data in Grid View:
1. Inline by making rows editable when u click on Edit
2. By using separate pages for Edit
3. By using popups/dialogs for adding/editing

SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() returns -1 when doing Insert / Update / Delete

Sometimes you end up with a return value of -1 when using the SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery method.

Why is that?

Well, the ExecuteNonQuery method is there for statements for changing data, ie. DELETE / UPDATE /INSERT, and the returned value are the number of rows affected by that statement.

When checking the documentation we can see that there are some conditions that return -1.

For UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements, the return value is the number of rows affected by the command.

When a trigger exists on a table being inserted or updated, the return value includes the number of rows affected by both the insert or update operation and the number of

rows affected by the trigger or triggers. For all other types of statements, the return value is -1. If a rollback occurs, the return value is also -1.

Where to Filter the companies returned by the EF?

I am just starting with dynamic data. I have an enttity framework called UsersModel.edmx.

It returns a list of all companies in the tblCompany table. This list is really big.

I need to filter the list returned to all user controls on the client so that it only returns the company that have a CompanyTypeId= 2 or CompanyTypeId= 3 and company name != "".

1 - Is it possible to filter the company list returned on the server so that I can filter only once for all the controls that use that on the client?

My ideas was to do something like this using linq and lambda but I am not sure how:

return tblCompanys.Where(c => c.CompanyTypeId == 2 || c.CompanyTypeId == 3 && ).Where(c=>c.CompanyName != "").OrderBy(c => c.CompanyName).Distinct().OrderBy(c=>c.CompanyName);

2 - I have created a partial class and a metadata class and added the DisplayColumn attribute to use the company name and sort by company name ascending.

Could I use the code to filter the returned companies in this? where?

namespace MarsMedicalModel
    [DisplayColumn("CompanyName", "CompanyName")]
    public partial class t

Filter by Computed Column

After looking for a driver to open legacy dbf drivers to connect, the next level trouble a have is this one:

first, i can retrieve the data but when trying to filter by a parameter (somesc columns) i get an error.

The error says about the database can't determine some blah blah!

The error is a columm tha is formated (  1234  ) about  8 space, fixed. The values in the query appears like that. I resolve this by Trimming Ltrim(ColumnName) and i get this (1234).

Now in SqlExpress, how can i filter by the new Trimmed Expression? (This is a primary key that the DBF use)

SELECT column1, column2, column3

SELECT Ltrim(column1) as NewExp, column2, column3
Where NewExpre = @NewExpres                  -Error-

How to retrieve data from SqlDataSource and pass to a variable?

Hi there,

I have a page in my website where there is very little code-behind. I only have two lines of code in Page_Load() and the rest of the code is declarative ASP.NET code. I have a FormView control which uses a SqlDataSource to get some order information. The SqlDataSource calls a stored procedure called usp_GetOrderDetails, here's the code for the SqlDataSource:

    <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sdsFormOrderDetails" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ForexDB %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ForexDB.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="usp_GetOrderDetails" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"
UpdateCommand="usp_UpdateOrder" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure"
<asp:ControlParameter Name="orderId" ControlID="grdOrders" PropertyName="SelectedDataKey.Value" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="orderId" ControlID="frmOrderDetails" PropertyName="SelectedValue" />
