How to make mobile version of company website?

Hi, I'm about to begin creating a mobile version of our company's website, and I have some questions.  I've spent many hours reading and researching online, but I can't find some of the answer I need. 1.  How can I test a mobile website locally?  Are there emulators I can download?  Can I plug a phone into my PC and test from the device?  I'd like to see how the website looks on the device locally so I can make changes accordingly. 2.  With the different screens and resolutions on mobile devices, what is the best width to use for the page layout?  Is there a set width of pixels that is a standard to follow, or should it be set at 100%? 3.  What is the best way to handle mobile browser detection?  So far I've found that I should add code to the Page_Load event of the Master page of our website that checks Request.Browser.IsMobileDevice and redirects to the mobile site if this returns true.  Is this the best way? These are my biggest issues with getting started.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Creating a mobile version of a MOSS 2007 site?

Hi, We've created a MOSS 2007 WCM public site for one of our clients.  Now, they want a mobile version of the site where they can custom what shows up on mobile devices; the content will be different (no images, Flash; some text may be changed; some web parts may not show, etc.)  What's the best approach?  I know about using "/m" to redirect to mbllists.aspx and I've read about how it uses rendering templates, but I can't find anything about controlling what content actually gets displayed.  Oh, and we have both English and Spanish versions of our site (.../en-US/pages/... and .../es-MX/pages/...) Thanks for any suggestions.  - Ed.

View of website completely disturbed due to update of Internet Explorer New Version.

I need immediate help if anyone may help me as early as possible would be appreciated.

Two websites that are being developed by me is online in my office network.

Our IT department has updated Internet Explorer and the view my websites is completely disturbed.

Now we have Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702

In most of my pages the setting is that from top to bottom, in top there is a panel holding dropdown, textboxes and just under this panel there is another panel with gridview.

When the pages load the first panel with the search controls are ok.

When i supplied search parameters then gridview resulted overlaping the above panel and it scrolls behind the above panel.

When there is one record populates to gridview the whole gridview would not be seen but the count label shows one record.

Please please help as I am receiving hundreds of calls from users.

Access ASP.Net website in a mobile phone

I have an internal ASP.Net application. We want to extend the accessibility of this application for the users using their mobile phone.

The application runs on an internal server of the company.

Is it possible to open the website(internal within the intranet) in a mobile phone and perform operations?

Thank you,

Clean exit from mobile website?

I've just completed my first iPhone-compatible & Droid-compatible mobile app.  At one time, I was confounded by differences in back button behaviour between the two platforms, but I came up with a suitable workaround.

One thing remains that I'd like to correct if it's at all possible.  The application is very session-variable dependent, so naturally, its very dependent on sessions.  Users invariably use leave pages open when they turn off their smartphones, and this means that they return to a non-repsonsive timed-out page when they turn it back on.  Can anything be done to preclude this?  As in active web app or no web app?

Here is the scenario:

You come back home, you have a windows mobile phone wifi capable and you want to quickly get access to your phone pictures from your home network.
You just activate the Wifi, run my app and then browse to the provided link from any computer on the network.

ASP.NET 4.0: WebForm Routing (quick n dirty version)

One of the things we're adding in ASP.NET 4.0 is built-in support for using Routing together with WebForms. Now, I'm totally aware that this is possible to do already and that a number of people have posted ways of doing this with the Web Routing feature which shipped with ASP.NET 3.5 SP1. We're just adding some features to make it easier to do

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

Creating a Smartphone Application and Using Data from SQL Mobile

In this exercise, you will use Visual Studio 2005 to create a Smartphone application. You will associate commands with a mobile device's soft keys, and you will add the ability to scroll through the list of available products (a list of images). You will create a data source for an existing SQL Mobile database, and then test the application in the Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator.

In the following procedure, you will create a new Windows Mobile 5.0 project in Visual Studio.

How to create a windows mobile (Smart Device) .Cab installer

A Cab file is the default setup format for Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices (similar to windows .msi files). You probably already have installed several application using .cab files, and are familiar with the concept. One point which is often unknown is that .cab files are processed by wceloader.exe, and it can only install one .cab file at a time. That means we cannot have nested .cab files. It doesn't mean we cannot have .cab files contained by another .cab, but the contained .cab files will not be installed during the installation of the container .cab. We should install it manually after the container .cab file installation has been completed.

There are two ways to create a cabinet (.Cab) file. The traditional one, and the friendly VS Smart Device Cab project which doesn't require additional coding, but which also relies on the traditional one at low-level.

Windows Mobile Wireless Ad Hoc Networking Tutorial permalink

Despite what I've written earlier about it is better to get a wireless router and using infrastructure mode, there are still situations where adhoc mode might be useful. Imagine visiting a friend who has a notebook with wireless connection. He also has internet connection, and you'd like to check your emails. But he needs to work on something with his notebook. Internet connection sharing using ad hoc mode would be useful here.

And so, I've re-written the guide for Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows XP with SP2. The old version of the guide for Pocket PC 2002 is still accessible
