memory usage (consumption) of individual controls on a web form shown in a browser

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 12, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Is there a way to check the memory usage (consumption) of individual controls on a web form shown in a browser. Like Repeater Control, Multiline Text box etc. The reason is I am putting the repeater control in session and checking the status of controls, based on which I am doing further actions.

Form background images and memory usage

Hello everyone, please forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this post. I have written a Windows App in C#. It's a real small application (something like a widget) that stays on your desktop and shows pictures of a folder in a random sequence. Before showing another picture i use : this.BackgroundImage.Dispose(); so that i keep memory usage low. If i won't do that i can see memory rising (depends on the image size). Now the code i use to change the picture is : this.BackgroundImage = Image.FromFile(path, true); So my question is about this last line of code. Is this a good approach of changing the picture after a while? (this code runs in a loop) Should i care about memory usage? The form is a small one for this kind of app, so loading big and large pictures can have some issues i guess. I have been monitoring my app for some time , memory and cpu usage were really low but i would like to know another and better approach on this one if somoeone knows.  de_Stan

CLR Inside Out: Memory Usage Auditing For .NET Applications

Memory usage can have a direct impact on how fast an application executes and thus is important to optimize. In this article we discuss the basics of memory optimization for .NET programs.

Design: Inspect and Optimize Your Program's Memory Usage with the .NET Profiler API

Developers using .NET often make memory leak tracking a low priority because the common language runtime takes care of garbage collection. What few developers realize, however, is that their objects' lifespans, along with their size and what other objects have been instantiated, all affect how they are cleaned up. Depending on the particular circumstances, these combinations can negatively affect performance, especially over the lifetime of an application. This article presents a way for developers to see memory usage and understand garbage collection using the .NET Profiler API. Along the way, a sample application to demonstrate these principles is built.

ASP.NET: Develop Polished Web Form Controls the Easy Way with the .NET Framework

Pre-built custom controls make application design easier and faster and allow you to maintain UI consistency. However, prepackaged controls can be big and slow, and are OS-specific. For those who don't want to use prepackaged controls, Visual Studio .NET provides controls for Web Forms similar to those found in Windows Forms, including label and textbox, and new additions such as the DataGrid, all of which you can customize. If you want to design your own controls, the .NET Framework provides inheritable classes that take care of all the nasty stuff you want to avoid, including page lifecycle, maintaining state across invocations, and browser detection. This article discusses these concepts, as well as eventing, rendering, and client-side scripting.

ASP.NET: Selectively Enable Form Validation When Using ASP.NET Web Controls

Sometimes the extra controls that come with Visual Studio .NET can be a bit inflexible or they just don't provide enough functionality or flexibility for all situations. The ASP.NET form validation controls, while powerful and easy to use, require that the entire page be valid before it's submitted back to the server. Through the use of the new object-oriented features of Visual Basic .NET, it is possible to extend their functionality to overcome this limitation. This article tells you how and helps you decide when it's a good idea to keep validation on the client and when you'd be better off disabling it.

Reg: Turn on more accessible mode & Skip to main content link message on Infopath2007 browser form

I have a infopath 2007 browser enabled form with c# code behind . The Infopath form is embeded\hosted in to a custom layouts page (.aspx) on MOSS 2007. The issue is when users use keyboard to fill the form, they often use <TAB> & <Enter> keys. So when they are using the tabbing at one location in the form, I have a "Contact selector" field, I enter a name & then hit <TAB> key the focus now comes to "name cheker" I then hit <Enter> key, I hit <TAB> again, the focus now comes to a button named "Accept", I hit <Enter> key & a filed below is populated with the values from user profile service. Now when I hit <TAB> I expect the focus should now come to that automatically populated field below the "Contact selctor". Because Infopath assings the tab order by default form top to bottom & left to right and I havent changed that default tab order.

But, the focus moves to top of the webpage with a clickable link to "Turn on more accessible mode" I hit tab one more time & the link on top changes to "Skip to main content". This bheaviour does not seem to be happning in other form controls when they hit <Tab>, <Enter>. There are couple of areas on the infopath form where I have such a controls (layed ou

Attachment upload error on browser based InfoPath form

I am having an interesting problem with browser based InfoPath forms in SharePoint 2007.  For some reason the file attachment control is not working any more.  It was working fine in July, but now it will not allow file attachments over a few kb.  I tried a 34KB file and I get the error below, a 2KB file works fine.

Issue in Infopath 2007 browser form - cascading dropdown using owssvr.dll filter view

Referring the below link, I created a cascading dropdown. The parent dropdown has sharepoint list as datasource and the child dropdown has xml datasource that points to owssvr.dll filter view. The cascading drop down works fine in preview but throws error after publishing as admin approved form - "form cannot run the specified query" exception when trying to execute xml datasource i.e., when a value is selected in parent dropdown. The security is 'Full Trust". In the event viewer the error message states "401 unauthorised" for the user a/c. the xml data source is an approved udcx file and in central admin, have enabled cross domain for infopath service. I have tried different solution provided in tech forums but issue still exists. Not sure whether Im missing something. Can someone guide me in fixing this issue?

Deploying InfoPath 2007 form to WSS 3.0 as browser enabled

Please Help! I've created an Infopath form and wanted to deploy the form as browser enabled to WSS 3.0? What are the different options I can do this? If i cannot use a form then i would like to  create a custom list with all the form fields but the user should be able to enter information in the list and he should see only the information related to him. I don't want to give access of the whole list to each and every user. Only the administrator should be able to see the whole list. The form was actually a user access request form.

Any help and suggestions is appreciated.

Infopath form - browser error client error

I am facing a problem with browser enabled infopath form. I have developed this in infopath 2007. I have few fields in a repeating table. It contains Number of units, qty , subtotal and total. Total is sum of all sub totals and Sub total is  multiplication of units and qty. I am able to insert new items in preview and getting subtotal and total. I have published it in sharepiont as browser enabled form as a content type. When I opened the form in browser and insert new item in repeating table then I am not getting my subtotal and total updated. I am getting those for only first row. other rows are not working. This is working with infopath client.  Please help me out..

Enabling/disabling input controls in a form

I am writing a ASP.NET UserControl and I am trying to incorporate JQuery into this.
The control is a simple form with a few input fields (text, checkbox, select, radio).
The first element in the form is a checkbox. Upon clicking this checkbox I want the all the input elements in the form (except the checkbox control itself) to be enable/disable. I tried writing some of this code but my solution was not getting me anywhere.
Below is the ASP.NET form code. I'd appreciate the help with some code or pointers into what I am doing wrong.
 <asp:Panel ID="pnlInputControls" runat="server">
    <table style="width:100%;">
            <td style="width:50%">
                <asp:CheckBox ID="chkBenefitName" runat="server" Checked="true" TextAlign="Right" ClientIDMode="AutoID" style="padding:0 0 0

"Enable this Form to be filled out by using a browser" check box is grayed out when publishing InfoP

When I try to publish InfoPath form to a SharePoint site collection, "Enable this Form to be filled out by using a browser" check box is grayed. Also, I see the following warning message: This form template is br owser-compatible, but it cannot be browser-enabled on the selected site. This may be cased by one of the following reasons: -The server is not running InfoPath Forms Services. - The necessary features are not available on the site collection. The policy setting on the server does not allow user to browser -enabled Form templates. I have tried the following: 1. Deactivated and reactivated " office SharePoint Server Enterprise Site collection features" 2. Deactivated and reactivated " office SharePoint Server Enterprise Site features" 3. "Form Templates" document library exists and visible. 4. I am able to check the box in other site collections without any problems. 5. Creating a "Save Button" in a browser based Form

I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious, but I need to have the funtionality of the "Save Button", which is available and works on the tool bar, available in the form...and I can't seem figure out how to do it.I've found examples, in this forum, of how to use the "Submit Button" to act as the "Save Button", which did work for me, but only when specific basic criteria was met.The criteria that I now have is that I'm initiating a workflow to automatically start when a new item is created.  My workflow then moves the form to one of a few possible different form libraries, based on the logic in my workflow.  The different form libraries are to manage different teams of people that would have access to the Form and then that team would process the form accordingly.My specific situation: 1 - User opens a new form (works) 2 - User enters data and then submits the new form (works) 3 - Workflow is initiated and the form is moved to another form library to be worked on by a select group of people (works) 4 - The form is opened and reviewed and some changes are made to the form data by the select group of people (works) 5 - The form data in the form libary is updated (works, but only if the save button is pressed in the tool bar and then manually closes t

this.controls.add - not always adding to parent form

My current code (snippet below) iterates through user info and adds the same custom control to a form based on how many "Meals" (1-6) the user has selected.  It appears that all even # controls (the second, fourth and sixth) are added to the previously added control, rather than the parent form, when I later try to dispose the controls by iterating through this.controls, only 1, 3 and 5 appear, the others appear as children to 1, 3 & 5. I've reduced controls size, etc. to make sure they're not overlapping (if that can force inheritence?) but no luck.  Anyone have suggestions on what to look at or other guidance? public void drawMealPanel(Meal m, int x, int y) { Controls.MealDisplay md = new Controls.MealDisplay(m); md.Name = m.name; md.Tag = m.id.ToString(); md.Left = x; md.Top = y; md.DragDrop += new System.Windows.Forms.DragEventHandler(this.MealView_DragDrop); md.DragEnter += new System.Windows.Forms.DragEventHandler(this.MealView_DragEnter); this.Controls.Add(md); }
