SQL Server Reporting Credentials work when I edit my DataSource but when I try to preview a report I

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a 64-bit SQL Server 2008 SP1 installation with SSL enabled, Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services are all running.

When I go into Business Intelligence Studio (on a 32-bit Windows XP client) and create a DataSource it works fine when I click on "Test Connection" but when I try to use the same connection to run a report it fails with an error message of "Login failed for user sa".

I have saved the password so it isn't something as simple as that.

I am obviously using the "sa" user, not passing through Windows credentials, the password is definitely correct as if I make it wrong on purpose it doesn't work when I click on "Test Connection" any more.

I have tried the OLE-DB connection type and also the "Microsoft SQL Server" connection type, both show the same behaviour.

On the server I can see in the SQL Server logs, "login failed for sa user, password does not match" type errors; loads of them.

I can connect to SQL Server Management Studio using the same credentials and it is all fine.  So this is just a problem with SSRS.

This DOES work for some users.  I can save the project, load it on another PC and it works fine.  Getting the same user to log on to my PC doesn't help so it must be something about my PC??

Data Points: Report Controls in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

Reporting has always been one of the dark arts of development. The tools typically seem to do just enough to get you to a certain point, then leave you to find workarounds to solve more complex issues.

How to save Windows credentials to a data source in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 using Visual

I am trying to create a shared data source for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 that uses a specific Windows user ID and password to connect to the database. Using the Report Manager web interface, if I create a shared data source and specify "Credentials stored securely in the report server", I can check the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. This tells SSRS that the user ID and password I specify are from a Windows user, not a SQL Server user. I want to create the shared data source using Visual Studio though. In Visual Studio I have an option to use stored credentials but there is no equivalent of the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. SSRS always assumes that user and password are for a SQL Server user, not a Windows user, and thus the connection fails. Does anyone know how to tell Visual Studio that the stored credentials are for a Windows user?

Permission Errors for Users on Home Page only of SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager

I have spent days now investigating this problem, so any help very much appreciated! I have a remote web server 2003 running SQL Server R2 Express Edition with Reporting Services installed. I use Report Builder 3.0 locally to build report. If I login via Internet to Report Manager Web Page as an administrator I can perform all the expected and required actions, creating new folders and assigning permissions for users etc. I have added a new user "ReportUser" as a Browser of a child folder. If ReportUser longs on to home page, he receives the all too familiar error: User 'XXXXXXXX\reportuser' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. However, if the user starts at the child folder of home page, and then logs in, he sees the expected page, and can run the report!  This is not very satisfactory. How can I allow user to see home page, without an error message, but not be allowed to click on any folders to which he is not entitled? I am now aware that SQL Server R2 Express Edition has many limitations compared with full Editions (fixed roles, cannot manage Report Service from Management Studio etc) , and many of the "solutions" offered on the web just do not apply.   John Walton

Don't see tab and toolbar of the report manager application after installing sql server reporting s

Hello everyone: I have tried to install and configure Reporting Service. I found lots of  errors along the way. The first one was an error (500.23) from IIS7. I applied the suggested solution on the IIS screen which was migrating configuration using AppCmd ( %SystemRoot%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd migrate config "Default Web Site/"). Next problem was  : Request is not available in this context Stack Trace: [HttpException (0x80004005): Request is not available in this context] System.Web.HttpContext.get_Request() +3465893 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.Global.get_ConfigurationManager() +47 Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.GlobalApp.Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) +32  This error was caused by the fact that Report Server and Report Manager were configured to DefaultAppPool in the Reporting Service Configuration Manager. I have switched to Classic .Net AppPool  for both Report Server and Report Manager and it has fixed the problem. Now my problem is that the Report Manager Application ( http://localhost/reports/folders.aspx ) shows no tab, toolbar or folder. What I now have on the Report Manage Application page is the header with the title and [home] and [Help] button links on the top right corner. I have made a report to test the problem but no folder shows o

Passing credentials from Sharepoint application to Reporting Server

Hi, Think of an environment where SSRS is deployed in share point integrated mode. There is a sharepoint application which is using user authentication (not windows authentication) for validating the login credentials of users using the application. There are some reports presented as web parts in the sharepoint application. Now, how should the user credentials be passed from Sharepoint application to Reporting services and how should they be validated? How the user credentials from sharepoint to be passed to report server and validate the permissions before showing up the report? Please let me know.  Phani Note: Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question.

Unable to use XML datasource to run a report on Report server( Report runs fines in Report designer

We are trying to run a report which uses a xml file  to load a report on SSRS. We have copied the xml to the Pages folder  and are able to access the xml via the link https://<servername>/Reports/Pages/test.xml This runs fine in the report designer.(i,e we are able to get create xml data source and use a dataset to retrieve the data from xml to the report designer) However when I try to create a XML datasource on the development server and try to run the report , we get the following error Error: An error occurred during client rendering. An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for dataset 'DataSet1'. Failed to execute web request for the specified URL. Unauthorized: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. I have updated the XML datasource to use Windows Account which is in the adminstrators group.   Any suggestions or hints are appreciated

SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services - How to I run a report and save the output as a .pdf on the s

I have the source code for doing what I want to do using a previous version of SSRS.  Since the new release, the service seems to work differently as I can't find any of the methods in the WSDL:

//Get report

SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Plans - Reporting And Logging Does Not Work

I have a maintenance plan built on a SQL Server 2005 instance that rebuilds indexes, rebuilds statistics, checks for database integrity, performs a maintenance cleanup, and performs a history cleanup.  This job runs once per week.

In the "Reporting and Logging" section I have the following options:

- Generate a text file report is checked

- Create a new file is selected

- A valid destination folder is identified

- Send report to an email recipient is checked

- A valid agent operator is selected

- Log extended information is checked

The job seems to complete successfully and a report is created and emailed, but the only information in the report is as follows:

Quest SLSSQLMaint Utility.
Logging on to SQL Server 'DEVSQL01' with Windows Authentication
Logged on to SQL Server 'DEVSQL01'

[1] Delete old text report files...
[1] Execution Time: 0 hrs, 0 mins, 0 secs.

[2] Send DBMail or SendMail report file....

[2] Execution Time: 0 hrs, 0 mins, 1 secs.

End of maintenance plan 'DB Maintenance Plan (No Backups) [DB Maintenance]' on 9/29/2010 8:40:49 PM (Success)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.4\MSSQL\Binn\slssqlmaint.exe Process Exit Code: 0 (Success)

Where is the information about the rest of the maintenance plan?&nbs

Does OOTB SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer support personalization? If not what are some

I am currently using WSS 3.0 (Sharepoint 2007) and SQL Server 2008 R2 reporting services.  I have upgraded the SSRS Add In from this site so that I'm using a build from Sept 2010:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=35c3a13f-4b5e-4d4a-86e4-07ee307b9638&displaylang=en.  I restarted IIS and the service for Reporting Services after upgrading the SSRS Add In.  I also verified in Add/Remove programs that the version for the SSRS Add In is now 10.2.400.0.

I can modify and change the title property in the OOTB Report Viewer in a personal view and when I switch back to the shared view the title differs as expected.  However, if I change the value of a parameter in a personal view and switch back to the shared view, the shared view renders with the value from the personal view.

Does the OOTB Report Viewer not support personalization of parameters?  If not, are there any alternatives?  The users of our portal will want to be able to set their own values for parameters which will not affect the shared view.

Problem with Reporting Services -- Report Hangs sometimes, need to restart server

We are having an application in which we generate several kinds of reports. We have one report- person addresses, through which we generate the report for all the people whom we have to deliver the cards. This is one of our most frequently used reports.

Some time back, we started getting problems of reports hanging on blank white page and nothing comes up. We restarted the server and everything wents fine. After some more days, the problem occurs again and again we restarted the server.

From that time the problem is coming up again and again and everytime we needs to restart server to make it work. But we cant do that every time ..Can anyone please suggest what may be causing it?

Database server: sql 2000

reporting services : Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 8.00.1062.00

operating system on which report is running: Microsoft Windows NT 5.2.3790.0

Application is build in .Net 2003

Sometimes the problem comes in 2 weeks, and sometimes it comes twice in a week.

Problem deploying custom report item. Items shows in preview screen in VS, but not in server deploye

I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:

1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio

2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:

      <ReportItem Name="PedigreeChart" Type="Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.PedigreeChartRenderer, Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart" />

3. Updated the rssrvpolicy.config file with the following entry.

Description="This code group grants Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll FUllTrust permission. ">
                                Url="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin\Uabr.Rap.PedigreeChart.dll" />

I've also tried using the StrongNameMembershipCondition

using connection strings in the report server than the datasource in 2005

I am using a datasource in the report server where all the reports use that shared datasource while calling the reports from asp.net pages.

Now, as asp.net pages uses the connection string for the databases which is assigned in the web.config file, i want the reports also use the same connection string because you don't need to change on both places( web.config and report server datasource).

Any idea plz
