VS2010 designer errors with x64 configuration

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 11, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

With an empty x64 WPF project I can't import the project's own namespace. Can the WPF designer in VS2010 be used on a x64 project, or what am I doing wrong?

Below are the steps that reproduce this problem.

Using:Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 pro Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.0.30319 RTMRel

Launch VS2010 IDE
File > New Project > WPF Application
 Targeting .NET Framework 4
 Name = WpfApplication1
 Solution name = WpfApplication1

Open MainWindow.xaml in xaml editor
add (xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1")

Designer error "Undefined CLR namespace. The 'clr-namespace' URI refers to a namespace 'WpfApplication1' that is not included in the assembly."
Build solution (successful)
Error disappears

Open Configuration Manager
Click Active solution platform. Select <New...>
Select new platform as x64. Click OK. Close Configuration Manager.

Error reappears: "Undefined CLR namespace. The 'clr-namespace' URI refers to a namespace 'WpfApplication1' that is not included in the assembly."

Rebuild solution (successful)
Error remains and designer is now useless.

This may be similar to a previous post that strayed off topic.

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
<html>
<body>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!
</form>
</body>
</html>

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

VS2010: Switching tabs in wpf designer

Hi, I have a problem with the WPF designer in VS 2010. I have a WPF UserControl which contains a TabControl with several Tabs (TabItems).  It was always possible to switch the tabs in the designer to see the content of the individual tabs. However, suddenly this stops working. I can not switch the tabs anymore. [EDIT] Seems to be a known issues? https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/531868/wpf-editor-tabcontrol-issues Workaround does not work for me (or I do not understand it correctly)... [/EDIT] Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jus

To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: The class Form can be designed, but is not the first class in the file. VS 2010 Isolated Shell, WPF Designer & Custom Controls produces some assembly reference errors

Hello, i currently try to use the VS 2010 isolated shell for providing a custom WPF editor.As described in the headline the WPF designer is 'partly' not able to find all assemblies (details below). After some research the only similar problem description i found here . Unfortunately I could not find any solution for my problem there. These are the steps i have successfully finished: - create a vs isolated shell application with some basic extensions (some tool windows) - create a Custom Project template based upon the MPFProj project (as describe at: here ) - Add the needed reference for custom control in project template - Create and edit XAML markup (no code behind, only markup) - Compile and run XAML Now, the following problem occurred (as a step by step description): - I add a custom control to the toolbox using the context menu "Choose Items..." (ok ) - I drag this custom control from the toolbox into the WPF designer view (ok ) - The custom control is rendered correctly and no assembly reference errors occurred (ok ) - I hit the F5 button in order to execute the XAML markup -> The application is starting correct and looks as exspected (ok ) - I close the running application (window) -> Now the WPF designer view seems to refresh and 'tells' me that an assembly (the one of the custom control) could not be found (error!!! ): There error text is: "Th

SharePoint Designer 2010 errors out when trying to connect to SharePoint 2010

When trying to connect Designer 2010 to our SharePoint 2010 we have setup here, the web seems to open, but then it bombs out with an error "An error occurred while trying to fetch data from your SharePoint site. Unknown response from the server.". And we're stuck as of now. Noting this bombs out also from Designer 2010 on the server, as well as from my workstation, so it's some sort of service issue.We've done:1) Firewalls off, on both server and my desktop2) I've been made admin everywhere, including the farm admin. Doesn't just die on my user, but all users get same error.3) Clicking lots of checkboxes in hundreds of places :)Any thoughts as to why designer dies?NotingThat when I Open Site in Designer 2010, and put the Url in the Site Name, the folder structure does show the folders of the site, so I can see images, _catalogs, SitePages, etc. It's just when trying to connect is when it doesn't work.

Dashboard Designer Connection Errors

Hi,SharePoint 2010 single box deployment on my laptop running Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2.I can access the SharePoint BI site just fine and can launch the dashboard designer with no problems.   When I try to create a KPI, indicagtor or dashboard I see the following error:***The list no longer exists or you do not have permissions to view it.  The dashboard cannot be saved.  Additional details have been logged for your administrator.***I look in event viewer and see:***The user "SHAREPOINT\system" attempted to save an item in the following location: http://alanserver/sites/BI/Lists/PerformancePoint Content Verify that the location exists and that the user has the "Add Items" permission.Exception details:Microsoft.PerformancePoint.Scorecards.BpmException: An unexpected error occurred. Generated MainWindow.xaml crashes VS2010 when you open the designer

In my system which is running Windows 7 Enterprise X64 I have a problem viewing some XAML files. At least one of my project XAML files sometimes crashes VS2010 if I open it in the designer or try to view it with Internet Exlorer 8 or Windows Presentation Foundation host. It also happens if i try to display the MainWindow.xaml that is generated by VS 2010.

The contents of MainWindow.xaml are

<Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow"
        xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
        xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
        Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525">
    <Grid>

    </Grid>
</Window>

If I open the debugger when IE8 crashes, the failing stack frame is iefdm2.dll!03992071()

I assume it is some sort installatioin snafu or something but I would hate to have to re-install everything.

Can anybody suggest what the issue might be?

vs2010 silverlight designer error

Hi all,

After installing Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight Tools for VS 2010, I tried to generate a new Silverlight project and got an error in the xaml designer.

None of the .xaml files generated by VS can be opened in design mode.

I have the KB30319.348 installed. The error is reproduced below:

Cannot open Sharepoint Designer 2010. Side by side configuration is incorrect.

This happens only on my desktop and laptop. When I try to open any site using "edit with sharepoint designer", I get the following message.

"c:\program files\Microsoft office\office 14\spdesign.exe

The application has failed to start becuase its side by side configuration is incorrect."

The site I am trying to open is a SPS 2010 site. Even if I try to open the application without trying to open the site, I get the same message. I have reinstalled Office 2010 and SPD 2010 but with no luck. Any advise.

InvalidOperationException in VS2010 WPF Designer on Visual State Manager

Hi,

When adding WPF styles through control templates and resourcedictionarys VS2010 throws an InvalidOperationException error in the designer on controls when certain properties are set, that link back to the Visual States. I thought this must be the way i was creating the Visual States (i am using Blend 4.0) but I am also getting the same error, even using the ControlTemplateExamples downloaded from the msdn site.  http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Project/Download/FileDownload.aspx?ProjectName=wpfsamples&DownloadId=7741

I opened up the solution in VS2010, then opened MainWindow.xaml (split screen - designer and markup)

System.InvalidOperationException

'System.Windows.Media.Animation.ColorAnimation' animation object cannot be used to animate property 'Foreground' because it is of incompatible type 'System.Windows.Media.Brush'.

... there are 11 errors but the solution builds successfully and runs fine.

If you look at the markup in MainWindow.xaml and the first set of buttons, the first error is linked to the "IsEnabled" property

Why is the WPF/XAML Designer in VS2010 unable to resolve my StaticResource references?

I have a WPF 3.5 app that was rendering properly in both the VS2008 Designer and at runtime. Since upgrading to VS2010, the Designer is no longer able to resolve any of my StaticResource references. Everything still renders correctly at runtime.

Custom Designer - SQLDataSource Configuration Wizard

I am writing a custom control that extends the SQLDataSource and I am trying to make a change to the Configure Data Source wizard. I created a custom designer (inherited from SQLDataSourceDesigner) and I can override the Configure method to create my own wizard. However, I need almost all the functionality of the existing wizard. I hate to rewrite the entire wizard to add the few features I need.

How do I find out which class is used to implement this wizard?

If I know the class, my wizard can inherit from it and I can make the few changes that I need. I realize that I may not be able to make the needed changes using this method but I would like to research it.

I am using Visual Studio 2010.

Thanks for the help,
Don

Sharepoint Designer 2010 - Generated fields names causing errors

I'm creating a number of edit forms for external lists in Sharepoint Designer.  We're using Foundation so these are just the standard forms, not Infopath forms.

Basically I've cretaed the external lists and forms and have been deploying these using a Visual Studio solution.  In the forms I have replaced all the generated sharepoint form controls with asp text boxes or Drop Down Lists and have given these meaningful IDs so it's easier when hooking them up to asp validators.  This worked for the first deploy but now when i edit the form (for example to change a text box to a Drop Down List) I get errors which seem to relate to the field names generated by Sharepoint Designer.  It has generated databind statements which try to bind fields ids already in use elsewhere on the form.

The error message is

Error while executing web part: System.Xml.Xsl.XslTransformException: An error occurred during a call to extension function 'DataBind'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error. ---> System.ArgumentException: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'ff15_1' Key being added: 'ff15_1'

Can anyone explain why it's generating these duplicate references?

Sharepoint Designer WCF Connection errors

When I type in a valid wsdl location for my wcf service such as http://nihrmacc36.ukcrn.leeds.ac.uk:8021/Service.svc?wsdl Sharepoint designer rejects this as being invalid and yet when I paste this into my browser it loads the wsdl fine.

Any ideas ?
